Are the bunkbeds @ GC your standard size bunks....say the size anyone would put in their homes?
OR are they smaller....like trailer sized....intended only for young children?

in other words......would a 15 y.o. and an 18 y.o. fit in these comfortably?

We are staying at the GC in August and I have booked a bunk bed room also. From what I have been told they are regular bunk beds. They are basically twin size beds in bunk bed setup.

We had a bunk bed room at Wilderness Lodge at WDW and that is how they were there.

The only problems that you may encounter are that like any bunk bed they will have a footboard that prevents them from hanging feet off of the end. And, when they try to sit on the bottom bunk they might/will bump their head. But that is pretty much standard for any bunk beds.

The only other difference that I can see is the bunk beds at GC have a trundle bed under the bottom bed. I don't think that will affect anything though.

My 8 year old daughter is about 5 foot tall (I'm 6'9") and she has no problems. But I was 6'7" when I was 15 and I sure wouldn't have wanted to squeeze into a bunk bed. But, if your kids can fit in a standard bunkbed they should be fine.

I've stayed in the Bunk Bed rooms at Grand Californian & the bunk beds are a bit smaller than regular bunk beds.

I actually slept on the bottom bunk and I did have to bend my legs while I was sleeping (I'm 5'6").

I've also stayed in the Bunk Bed rooms at AKL at WDW and there bunk beds are a regular size.

Hope this helps!
;) :D ,
Katie

<font color=navy>I've got a pic of the bunk beds from when we stayed there a couple of years ago. My kids were 12 & 11 at the time, and my son was probably about 5'3" at the time - he had to sleep diagonally to fit. I'm 5', and I fit on there okay. There is a pull out drawer bed under the bunk for a smaller child to use. The staff at the Grand Californian told me that the recommend no one over 11 sleep in the upper bunk.

Another time we stayed at the Grand Californian, we stayed in a standard room that had two queens and a day bed - that room seemed to be slightly larger, and you might want to request that for your family. Unfortunately, I didn't take any pics of that room. (Having too much fun to take pics .... ::::gasp:::: )

our children would all fit fine. I'm just wondering about size of room. Does having the bunk beds give you any more floor space or feel of more room?

thank you all for your help. I called to ask about the bedsize and the CM I spoke to advised against it. She recommended the 2 queen room with the daybed. my boys are about 5'4" and 5'6" so the smaller one will sleep on the daybed.

Maybe I should be asking about the size of the daybed now? ;)

I was told that the only "2 queen bed rooms" with daybeds are rooms with standard views....which is OK with me....I was booking standard anyway.

I wonder if these rooms with the daybeds are larger by a few feet to accomodate the daybed??

We checked out one of these rooms and were told we couldn't use the bunkbeds, our kids were too old, 11 and 15. The beds are small. Another option they have (they don't do roll aways) is a sleeping bag and pad for the floor.
