When DS was in grade school we always bought his uniforms at Sears. We bought on sale and usually paid about the same as if we had bought at a discount store. Sears has (had, I'm not sure if they still do) a program where if anything happened to the clothers (not just uniforms) they would replace them for an identical item. If a zipper broke-back they went. DS fell down and ripped the knee-back they went. We did this for nine years!

I got the uniform polo tops from Sears online. They were $2.40 for the girls tops and there were some other pieces as well.
They are the TKS Sears brand and look very nice (arrived the other day).
Here's the link:

looks like the price went up a bit and the sizing/colors are more limited but even after shipping they are a good deal.

HTH!

oh yeahhhh the kid vantage progrm... i didnt think of that!
thanks for the link..

I plan on making my DD's uniforms this year. I started making some of hers at the end of last year. She doesn't care too much for the polo type shirts. Luckily her school allows button up shirts in the school colors (Navy, Red and White).

Target should have a sale coming in the next few weeks. We usually go there for the uniforms. I got some good deals on target.com right after school ended.

JC Penney's has their uniforms on sale this week. I just noticed the sale sign but not the price since I've already bought our uniforms for this coming year.

We get our uniforms from Sears or Lands End. The upfront cost might be a little more, but we recoup our money during the year when the boys blow out the knees of all their pants and we can exchange them for new ones as a part of the kidvantage program. Lands End also offers a guarantee on their clothing.

This is NOT the time to find discounts on uniform items -- in fact, this is the worst possible time to buy uniforms. In a couple months they'll be marked down, even clearanced. Even ebay's going to be higher right now. The best deal I remember was from Kohl's: they'd clearanced all their uniform shorts for .99/pair. I bought the whole rack, kept two pair in each size for my own daughters, and made a killing at the school re-sale sale the following spring. I'm pretty sure I bought those shorts, though, in October or November -- off season.

I'd suggest buying the bare minimum to get yourself by, then keep your eyes open for real sales in a couple months.

I agree with the people who say buy Lands' End or Sears' items. Uniforms get more wear than other clothes, so buying cheaply made items is false economy -- you'll have to replace them soon.

I got all of my twins' pants from Sears for the reasons mentioned above, I am sure we will need to exchange them! I have been picking up polo shirts as I find them on clearance, I got some online at Sears for $3 something last week, and Walmart has them all the time for $5 in the store.

I ordered from this site a few days ago to get French Toast long sleeve polos for $6.99. http://www.MarcusUniforms.com I haven't gotten them yet so I'm hoping they are good!

for your speedy and helpful suggestions. I did one order from Sears....and the another from Walmart...and as you suggested MrsPete...I ordered the minimum. I ordered the bottoms from Sears because of the "wear out" feature - I think we'll have enough for the start and then I'll start watching for more sales. The Sears prices were wonderful....I missed out on a couple of sizes though. Thank you again folks!!! :flower3: barb

Old Navy normally had great prices on their uniforms too.

That said, we always bought ON pants since they fit DS the best and LE shirts since they never fade or shrink. He loved the Interlocken polos.
