Who has read the Wealth Watchers?
The author has you find your daily spending amount. The idea came from Weight Watchers. It has some very interesting ideas that I hadn't thought about before.

Anyway, when I calculate the budget I always put in an amount for grocery and misc things like toothpaste/toilet paper/cleaning supplies.

But in reading this book, I'm wondering how other people budget for those kinds of things. How do you include groceries? What defines groceries, do you include household things like detergent/toilet paper etc?

I have not read the book.

As for budgeting for groceries, the way I do it is where I buy it. I usually buy toliet paper/napkins/tooth paste at my grocery store. But occastionally somewhere else. In our budget, we have line item for groceries that includes those items but we also have a household line item that to a smaller degree account for them.

Groceries:food, toliet paper, paper towels, tooth paste, razors, plastic bags, fresh veggies.....

Household:tooth paste, tooth brushes(on sale or better selection), razors, cleaning supplies, b-day/Christmas( I shop year round for family) gifts.....

I put everything I buy at the grocery store in my grocery line in the budget. That includes toilet paper, paper towels, detergent, etc. I use an special electric toothbrush so replacement heads do not go in that budget. I also don't buy pet food at the super market so that goes in a separate line as well.

We tend to buy cleaning supplies and toiletries at Costco, along with some groceries. My monthly grocery budget accounts for two grocery trips and a Costco trip.

My issue is that I tend to get some non grocery items at Costco, like baby clothes, books, etc and then forget to pull that out of it's respective category.
