Our friends invited us (DH and me) to join them on NYE to go and see the "Lights Before Christmas" at the Toledo Zoo.

At $10 a person admission, that is another $20 just after Christmas... and on top of that, they want to do dinner (more $$$... probably $20 if DH and I order the cheapest menu items) AND our friends wanted to hit up Starbucks or McDonalds for hot chocolate beforehand, so there is another $5 - $10.

So, if we go, not only will we be spending $25-$30 (remember, hot chocolate... :sad2:) to freeze our butts off, we will be spending $45 - $50 after dinner and when everything is said and done.

It would be nice to see these friends, and I like Christmas lights and all, but Christmas is now over... and it will be 20 degrees outside. We also don't really NEED to spend the extra money, but it wouldn't kill us.

I guess what I am really trying to do is either find some people to talk us out of it, or to tell us that NYE happens once a year, suck it up and have fun. :laughing:

Just to add... option two isn't much better per se... hang out with another good set of friends (but also with their annoying girlfriends and friends.) It would be cheap, warm, and we would eat for free (a girlfriend is cooking.)

WWYD?

I hate to break it to ya, Meg, but its going to be nice tomorrow, with it still being about 30 degrees out at 9pm. I haven't been to the lights before Christmas, but I've heard good things. I know I'd rather do that than just sit around somone's house with people you don't enjoy.

I'd make a nice dinner and stay home--by ourselves. It reallys sounds like you won't have a good time if you go...

:snooty: Why did you have to go and say that??? ;) :rotfl:

Neither of us wants to go really... DH asked me to post this! :rotfl: We really don't want to do either, but we don't want to stay home at the same time!

I don't remember NYE being this so difficult in years past!

Thanks you two!

Do what you want to do!

Personally, I would stay home, order in or make something yummy, cuddle up on the couch and keep warm- without having to make forced conversation with people you don't care to spend a lot of time with.

No matter what though, if you go into it with the right attitude, you can have fun anywhere.:goodvibes

Happy 2010!:cheer2::cheer2:

You could offer to meet up with them for just the lights. It sounds like something I would enjoy so I'm biased though.

Couldn't you meet up for hot chocolate and to see the lights and then have them over for dinner at your place? Sounds like a win-win (well, except that you have to cook, lol)

Why not just stay home and enjoy a quite NYE? Why do you have to go out or spend it with anyone?
