On the dlx dining plan, if you order the Cobb salad for two appetizers, should I assume that it counts as two appetizers? Will they make a smaller size for one?

I saw the Brown Derby menu posted outside the restaurant yesterday. The Cobb Salad was not listed as an appetizer for two.

We had lunch there on the DxDP. My mom got the cobb salad (which the server split in two) and I got the crab cake for an app. So, I guess it can be split? Not sure if it's common or the server was doing us a favor? Ask your server, if in doubt. I don't remember it being listed as an app for two.

The full size Cobb is huge, a meal in itself, IMO.

I ate at the Brown Derby last week on the DxDDP. The Cobb salad was not listed as being for 2, but the waitress (who has totally turned us off to Brown Derby, because she was so snooty) said, "The Cobb Salad must be split because it is for two." I have had them make me a Cobb salad for one in the past, as DH is allergic to eggs, so I asked her to ask if they could do it for one.

So she came back to the table to take our order, and said, "They said that they can't do the Cobb Salad for one. But you can order it as your entree'." So I ordered onion soup as my app and Cobb Salad as my entree'. Then she came back to the table a few minutes later and said, "I was wrong. They changed it to a Cobb Salad for one. See, on the menu how it doesn't say 'for two'? Yeah, well, you can have that as your app and order something else as your entree'." So I changed my order to Cobb salad as an app and the 6 oz. filet for my entree'.

In the end, I was happy. I would have gladly paid OOP because I go to the BD *just* for the Cobb salad and the Grapefruit Cake. But it was such a PITA to order, and the waitress seemed to have no clue.

And in the end, when I got the receipt, the cobb salad was listed as "Cobb for 2" so go figure.

It states on the allears.com menus that the Cobb salad at the Brown Derby is large enough for two..so what was her problem?:confused3

Off topic but I've been to the BD twice. I had great service both times, very nice, accommodating servers. But the last time I went, the filet was the worst steak I ever had, ever. I usually get it medium well, or rare, depending on my mood, LOL. I ordered it medium well and it was so tough I must've sawed 10x to cut a piece! I sent it back. The server recommended I get another done medium rare, which I did. It still tasted terrible but was more tender.

I noticed a huge change in the quality of the steak from Nov. 2009 vs. our most recent trip in June 2010. The '09 steak was great, the '10 steak was awful.

BTW, the grapefruit cake was delicious!

Does anyone know anything about the Cobb Salad Sandwich I've heard about? I know its CS, but where? And is it as good as the Cobb at the BD? TIA!

On dlxdp, if we wanted the Cobb, (which was the reason I picked BD) they made 2 of us share...accounting for 2 apps. And they would not make us 1/2 a salad or smaller size. This was in 08.

We ate here on Mother's Day in May 2009. We weren't on the DxDP, but were OOP. It was our first family trip to WDW and our first full day in the parks. We had the F! package and I chose BD because it was Mother's Day and I REALLY wanted to see F!. Anyway, DH and I split the cobb salad as our app.--it was listed on the menu as "for two" (F! pkg. comes with the app, entree and dessert like DxDP) It was split in the kitchen for us. Our server (who was very nice!) said that the F! pkg. included an appetizer and told us we could order another one if we wanted. It was too much food, so we declined.

It seems like it depends on your server. Also, that they may have changed the menu recently.

Have a fun trip! We really liked BD.

Can someone tell me what this cobb salad is all about? Isn't it just lettuce, chopped lunch meat and cheese, and egg? But people really rave about it. Going to BD next trip... Might have to get it so I can see what all the fuss is about.

We were at the BD in May and I am fairly sure I'm the only one that ordered the Cobb for my appetizer (On DxDP) and splitting it was never even mentioned. It was fairly large for a salad, but not entree sized.

(BD is one of two restaurants we want to make sure we eat at again next time. YUM. And lovely service!)

You don't have to have the Fantasmic package to see Fantasmic!!!

BD is so overrated!! Not worth 2 credits and surely not worth OOP. I guess you should go once and see how you like it. Once was enough for us. The cobb salad was nothing special and the grapefruit cake was bitter. I had heard so many good things about both I had to try them, boy was I disappointed.

Of course the grapefruit cake was bitter, the icing is grapefruit flavored. I thought it was delicious, but it is definitely a distinctive taste, and probably not to everyone's liking.

F! Stands for Fantasmic dining package. There are several restaurants in HS that participate. I know you don't need the pkg to see the show but it was our first trip and the DIS put the fear of God in me over the reduced showings that started in 2009. We didn't use the F! Package during our May 2010 trip but it was nice to have on that first trip!

I thought I wouldn't like it because I'm not a grapefruit fan, but figured what the heck since it's supposed to be such a classic. I really enjoyed it, it was light and very tasty.

That being said, I probably won't be returning there. Not "all that", in my opinion - even with the Fantasmic package.
