Brown Derby & Hollywood & Vine?

I don't know about H&V (we don't do buffets) but Brown Derby is wonderful! It is one of our favorites and a must-do for each trip. I do feel funny walking in at first because the restaurant has an upscale atmosphere and we are always in park attire - but so is everyone else so I've become accustomed to it. Some people have complained that it is not kid-friendly but I have 3 children and have never felt unwelcome there.

If you go, I recommend the crab cake for an appetizer and the filet for an entree (I am not a steak person at all but their filet is wonderful - very tender and flavorful). We will be dining there in in 24 days!!!

ENJOY!

We had wonderful food but pretty insensitive service at Brown Derby in January, which was unusual given our previous good experiences there.

We have never made it to Hollywood & Vine and the reviews are never great. That last couple times we went to Brown Derby we were disappointed. We know only go to 50's Prime Time for table service and maybe the Sci-Fi for a dessert.

I was at the Brown Derby about 2 weeks ago --- I hadn't been for a good 13-14 years and decided I needed to try it again. You find if you're a local, even though you have your choice of all the Disney restaurants any day, that you end up eating at the same handful over and over again. I must say I was really impressed. The food was great---the only problem was our server. She spoke very little English and everytime we asked for something we would have to repeat ourselves until she understood what we wanted. I won't ever not return to a restaurant b/c of one person---so I will be back for sure!

I don't know about H and V, but I didn't like BD at ALL!!! :duck:

My dh, dbil, and I went there for lunch because my dbil HAD to go eat there.

I just wanted a good ol' hamburger or sandwich at the time, and I would have rather gone there if it was just my dh and I on a romantic date or soemthing.

The menu is imposing for ppl just wanting to grab a sandwich. Even I as epicurious as I am at times, had trouble finding something that didn't sound too foo-foo . The only thing with chicken in it was a salad....I ended up getting the Tofu noodle bowl, but I didn't like the tofu since it would have been a lot better if it was a firmer tofu.

We like H&V, I'm a lifelong vegetarian and it's a very easy place to find something to eat. A lot of Disney restaurants have one vegetarian choice (yes you can ask the chef to prepare something special at most restaurants but that's not my style).

We love the Brown Derby - and we always try and sneak in a lunch there. I think the attire is just standard park attire. The food is great, and we always ask for one of those circular booths to keep the little one in the middle of her brothers. That way she is entertained and doesn't try to hop up. They were really good to the kids there. I was surprised, because for a more adult feel, they really catered to the kids. It was really nice.

We have been to Hollywood and Vine a couple of times (including this past October) and have found it to be very good. Nice selections, we always have eaten on the early side (between 4-5) and have had very fresh food. The dessert selection was great.

DH, DD7, DS7 and I liked Hollywood & Vine last year. We did go there in conjunction with Fantasmic dinner package, and thought it was worth it. The buffet was standard American fare and the desserts were very good. Our kids hit the ice cream bar with the assortment of toppings big time.

BD is my favorite! I got back each time just to have the Grapefruit cake. I realize you can probably get it at the local bakery and i make it myself, but I love enjoying it in that elegant atmosphere (even though we're in park attire). Oo...and the cobb salad! YUM!

The Brown Derby is the one restaurant I've never tried. Have tried H&V and I won't be returning, nasty food.

I'm not a fan of the restaurants in MGM. Yes I eat in the park. I find MM to be OK, depending on what you order. 50's lots of fun, food OK. SciFi OK for a quick bite, fries and a shake.

Always a difficult park to pick a meal. We usually end up going to 50's. While I've always wanted to try this restaurant for some reason it always eluded us.

I guess my pick would be Brown Derby.

We just returned from DW, flew in this evening! :guilty:
We ate at H&V on Monday night and we enjoyed it. Great service and food was great too. I was really nervous, because these boards have given harsh reviews about it. I almost canceled, but wanted to do the fantasmic package. I am so glad we kept it. Dinner was great and we walked into Fantasmic 5 minutes before the show with great seats.

Scrubnurse, Glad you had a positive experience at H&V. We're doing Fantasmic pkg. in April and the negative reviews worried me.

We ate at H & V last May for our FDP, and, of all the restaurants at which we ate last year, H & V was our least favorite. The restaurant was very crowded & very noisy (but not a "fun" noise); the tables were so close together that we might as well have been sitting w/ the people next to us. The food on the buffet was typical buffet-fare. Our ADR was for 6:20, and some of the food already looked like it had been sitting out for quite a while. Granted, we might have just been there on a bad night. However, H & V was the only restaurant that my DH, who is pretty easy to please, requested that we not go back to, so we're trying Mama Melrose's for our FDP.
