Day 2 October 15th, 2005

I shut the light out sometime after midnight. The little guy woke up around 2 AM. He had rolled off the Ready Bed and wedged himself between the Ready Bed and the platform for our bed. He was crying hard by the time I got the light on and picked him up. He obviously didn’t know where he was. We tried to calm him down, but nothing seemed to work. I was frustrated as I thought he was probably waking up all the neighbors. After 10 minutes or so I suggested that he sleep in my spot with Daddy and I would sleep on the Ready Bed. Let me just say that those things are not meant to hold an adult’s weight. He stopped crying and fell happily asleep. I suppose that I dosed through the rest of the night, but it was definitely not a good nights sleep. I decided to get up and shower at 6 AM. I knew that I needed to go to Walmart to get supplies for the trip. I woke kitchensink guy around 7 AM and told him that I would be leaving. I expected to be back around 9 AM and he was to follow the plan that we had worked out before leaving home.
We knew that we wouldn’t have much opportunity to talk without our kids hearing while on the trip so we had worked out operation character surprise before leaving home. The plan was for me to go to a Walmart SuperCenter and purchase a birthday cake and some little gift items for the kids. Their birthdays are all within 6 weeks of each other and they all wanted to celebrate at Mickey’s House. I had decorated some gift bags and made cards for each of the boys from there favorite characters before leaving home. With the help of the talented DDA designers on the T-shirt thread I had been able to customize a pillowcase for each boy with their favorite characters that fit into the theme of their rooms at home. The plan was for Kitchensink guy to get the boys out of the room when I returned so I could set everything up. I took a walkie talkie and left one for him to make sure that everything went as planned.
The front desk gave me great directions and I was at Walmart in less than 15 minutes. I had a list of food items that we would use in the room and I would just look for gift items in the Disney Dept. I found it difficult to find anything that I thought the boys would use later, but did manage to find some Disney Themed gummy candy and big pens with a string attached. I also found a Mickey car watch for the Little Guy, some Pokemon cards for Missing Tooth Kid and Harry Potter Cards for Stitch. That with the pillowcases that I made would be fine. I also had Mickey water wings on my list. I searched through the store, but couldn’t locate the pool items. I finally asked and couldn’t believe my ears. Pool items are a seasonal item. Let me recap, I am in Florida in 90 degree humid weather, and water wings are a seasonal item. What season do they need them exactly? Well, the little guy will either have to wear a life jacket at the pool or one of us will have to get in the pool with him. I spent another ½ hour walking through the food aisles picking up drink, snacks and breakfast items. I ended the shopping at the bakery and had them write a birthday message on a sheet cake. I paid for my items and loaded the Vibe. It was already after 9 AM, oops I’m a little late, but I have the Walkie Talkie so it will not be a problem.
I get back to the Pop and try reaching Kitchensink Guy on the Walkie Talkie. No Luck. He must be in the pool with the kids. I grabbed just the items for the birthday bags along with the cake and the balloons that I had bought and went to the room. I still had no idea where my crew was so I held my breath as I opened the door. The room was empty. Yeah! For some reason I decided to lock the door. I began packing the birthday bags when I hear them trying to get through the door. Oh no. The surprise is ruined. Think fast Supermom or it’s over. I open the door a crack and hand out the keys. I told them there were a lot of groceries in the car and that I needed them to get them now. I close the door. A second later there is a knock. Kitchensink Guy wants to hand me the refillable mugs. The kids are out of earshot so I tear into Kitchensink Guy for ruining the surprise. He says they had been out of the room for 1 ½ hours and the Walkie Talkie wasn’t working. I still was not happy. I sent him to the car. I very quickly finished the bags, pulled out the cards and organized the table. I slipped out to meet them. I ended up carrying several grocery bags as the kids said they were too heavy. As we approached the room I announced that when I had come back I found a surprise that was in the room, but I didn’t tell them before as I knew they wouldn’t want to help with groceries after they saw it. They bought my story hook line and sinker. I’m getting good at lying to my kids as you will see later in the trip. We opened the door and they were so excited. They dumped out the bags and read the cards. Stitch said his gifts were from Mickey and Pals, Missing Tooth kids said his were from Pooh and the Gang and the Little one couldn’t have cared less who left him a present. They wanted to eat the cake for breakfast, but I talked them into having some donuts for breakfast.
Since I had all of our outfits planned out ahead and written on our itinerary (did I mention that I planned for 9 months), Kitchensink Guy had everyone dressed when I returned. Now to make sure that we have everything we’ll need for the 3 boys and an entire day at Epcot. Diaper bag, baby blankies (he can’t nap at home without them) , mesh backpack with rain ponchos and stroller rain covers, another mesh backpack with wind suits for the boys, another with snacks , powdered drink mix, brita water bottle, swim chamois etc. I’ve had 9 months to plan and it is our 6th trip with kids so I know the items that I will eventually need. Since Epcot is a large park we will need both strollers today. We pack into our Silver Pontiac Vibe with our AAA preferred parking pass in hand and head for Epcot. After only a couple of wrong turns (I was driving and kitchensink guy was reading the map) we ended up taking the scenic route to Epcot. We arrive and secure and absolutely prime parking spot (remember it is after 11 am, so this has to be Disney Magic), the only thing closer is where the tram drops off people coming from the regular parking spots. Since there is no rain in the forecast we decide to chance it and leave the rain bag in the car as well as the wind suit bag. We line up for Disney’s security check. This is a breeze after getting friendly with airport security yesterday at BOS. We would have taken the little guy on Spaceship earth, but there was a long line so we head straight to Soarin. It is a 70 min wait so I run in and get fast passes. Our return time is 6:45 - 7:45. We can get another fast pass in 2 hours. We decide to ride journey into imagination. The little guy likes it, but the older two complain about the smell and how boring the ride is. We exit into the Imagination Station. The boys were selected to be the kids in the Kodak Picture Maker demonstration. They were excited, but when he finally lined them up for the photo the height difference made a horrible shot. The free photo sucked, but at least we have proof that we were there. We spend some time exploring and sending e-cards to the family. Kitchensink guy wanted to do Honey I shrunk the Audience, but none of the boys enjoy the show so we head to World Showcase instead. We get a couple of photos in Canada then head to England. The characters would be out for a meet and Greet in 15 minutes so I buy kitchensink guy some fish and chip and a side of chips for the kids. I got 2 cups of ice water and made lemonades for us to share. The kids enjoyed the chips and ran around in the hedge maze until the meet and greet. We met Alice and Pooh. It was nice. The time was now after 1 pm so we decide to head to innovations for our Disney Visa meet and greet with free photos.

We catch a few characters from the Character Bus and have a photo pass picture taken with spaceship earth in the background.

We get to Innoventions and crew all get in line for the video came that is played in the large bowl. I search out where the meet and greet is and join them to help the little guy. Missing Tooth kid comes in second and really wants to play again, but we decide to wait for another day. We do the meet and greet with no line and meet Minnie and Goofy. It was great character interaction. After the meet and greet the crew wants to do the fire prevention exhibit. I choose to use a restroom and get fast passes to Test Track. Those were for 5:25 - 6:25. We leave innovations and head back to World Showcase. This time we start on the other side. We found the Irish Whiskey cake and it was delicious. The kids wanted the snow cones so we went to Japan and got those then took the boat back to Canada and caught the last Character Bus. Kitchensink Guy ran ahead and got fast passes to Mission Space. He noticed that Test Track wasn’t working at the time. We went on Spaceship Earth then used the Mission Space fast passes. The little guy fell asleep on Spaceship Earth so it was a quiet wait for them to do Mission Space. Test Track was still down so we went to the land and rode the Living with the Land ride then used our Soarin Fastpasses. Soarin was awesome. I am prone to motion sickness, but had no problems on this ride. It is definitely something that I would like to ride again sometime. We left after that as we were all tired and it was our first day at the parks. I picked up our free photo on the way out and it came out great.
We went back to Pop and made some sandwiches for dinner. The kids cut into their birthday cake and we took our cake outside and watched the Epcot Fireworks from the bench in front of our room. We could see Epcot fireworks and MK fireworks from there. We took the crew to the Hippity Dippity Pool. They started out in the baby pool with the little guy then we put a lifejacket on him and they went in the large pool. The little guy is a really good swimmer for a 2 year old and he loves to have his face in the water and to jump in. He enjoyed the pool as did the other boys.
We went back to our room and turned in for the night. Tomorrow would be an early morning and we were attending MNSSHP in the evening. Tomorrow would be a truly Magical Day. Stay tuned.

Enjoyed reading your report ~ Thanx for posting.

what a fantastic thing you did.......well ALL that planning worked ......right? I love Soaring too and can hardly wait for a return visit......thanks for your report

Mickey wasn't there during your Meet 'N Greet? Weird. I like your background though. Ours was a little different. Thanks for sharing!

Great report and I LOVE your T-shirts!

They wanted to eat the cake for breakfast, but I talked them into having some donuts for breakfast.

The difference being.... :rolleyes1

OK, ready for day 3 now :Pinkbounc :bounce:

What picture(s) is in the Mickey head of your shirt? Can you post a close-up of it?

Lovin the reports - I can't believe you picked up soarin FPs at 11 for a return time 7 hours later! we it busy there?

Also can I make one little plea - could you put some line spaces in as I keep going cross eyed and losing my place :goodvibes

Sorry about the line spacing. I typed it in Word then pasted it to the board and It lost all the indentations. I hadn't noticed until you pointed it out. The Red shirts were shirts that we bought at Walmart on a previous trip. I didn't make them. I will take a picture later and post it for you.

Here are photos of the shirts that I bought at Walmart in Orlando last year.

Can't wait to read the rest of your reports! It really is a shame we didn't meet while we were there! Sounds like you had fun. I looked at your pics and I don't think we saw you guys at all. My DS is blond like your boys so I think I would have remembered them.

We did see one window at Pop with some Halloween decorations on the table and a green Mickey on the window, and I saw DisneyMommyMichelle's door because it was decorated with BIG lime green Mickey heads and a dry erase board. I left her a little message but I don't think we ever saw her family, either. Funny how we can all be in the same place at the same time and never bump into each other.

I love the red shirt! Great reports, too!

What were your toddlers favorite rides, etc. We will have twin toddlers there in couple weeks and any advice would be appreciated. Thank you for the trip report, too. :goodvibes

He loved the Buzz Lightyear Spaceranger spin. We did that many times. To be honest he is a daredevil and enjoyed everything that he was tall enough to ride. He even did the hauted mansion. At AK he liked the triteratops spin, the boneyard and Kilomanjao Safari. At MGM he liked the Honey I shrunk the kids playarea, Bear in the Big Blue House, Muppets, Little Mermaid, Great Movie Ride and the Backlot tour. He liked running around in Innoventions at epcot and Spaceship Earth. Just riding around in the stroller looking at everything kept him content.

Just try a little of everything and see how they react. My kids have never been afraid of the characters so we do a lot of character interaction too.

Small world is a good start with kids because there is NOTHING scary - no scary witches, no drops nothing. My younger son was completely freaked in DLP by Snow White's Scary ride (OK, its called scary for a reason  ) and by Pinnochio. He was also scared of the characters at first, but got into it by the end. Two years later at WDW He's fine with the characters at CP and the ones we see in Adventureland (?), but for most of the rest of the trip won't go near any! How do you explain that?

If you have any occasion locally with any dort of character its well worth taking the kids to get them used to the size - otherwise they expect them to be the same size as on a TV screen :rotfl: The planning video is also a help.
