Jill and I tossed around the idea of a trip to Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge for a couple of days during spring break, since there will be no Disney. I know we would eat and shop, but maybe you can help us out on some things the little ones might like to do. Dollywood won't be open yet. Maybe we should just wait a little later, like May, and go to Dollywood. I just don't know what I am going to do during spring break. I hate the thought of doing nothing during my time off.QUOTE]
Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge is a lot of fun. DH and I got up there almost every year. When is your Spring Break? We are tentatively planning on going up during our Spring Break this year.
Gatlinburg has a lot of shopping and some things for the girls to do. Ripley's Aquarium is fun and has areas for the little ones to explore. There is one shopping area in Gatlinburg that I absolutely love and have to visit each time I go. It's called the "The Village"
www.thevillageshops.com. If you go there, you have to take the girls to "Olde Smoky Candy Kitchen", you get to watch them make the candy the old fashioned way.
Pigeon Forge has a lot of outlet shopping, go kart places, mini-golf, etc. If it is in your budget, I would try Dixie Stampede. It is a lot of fun and they choose some kids from the audience to participate. Another great place to eat is the Apple Barn. You get a lot of food for your buck. We usually have leftovers for another meal when we leave.
You must visit Great Smoky Mountains Park, while you are up there. Cades Cove is one of our favorites. It is a bit of a drive into the park but well worth it. We get up early and drive to it. You drive through the area in your car at a slow pace and you get the chance to see wildlife right outside your windows. We have seen deer, turkey, foxes, and black bears to name a few. We bring a picnic lunch and enjoy it at one of the picnic areas inside the park. Here are a few pictures from our last trip (I'm completing a trip report so, you can view more there):
