The count down is on and we leave for Peru in 6 days for our first ABD trip. We have checked our lists and mentally packed and repacked over and over. We are beyond excited for our upcoming trip and nothing is going to dampen our spirits but there are some grey clouds on the horizon and it isn't just the weather forecast. 4 weeks ago I fractured my 5th metacarpal in my right foot and had surgery to have it pinned. Our wonderful Dreams Unlimited agent was quick to explain our travel insurance options but my recovery has been swift and we're going full steam ahead. i'm now in an air cast and have no plans to alter any plans other than the white water rafting portion of our trip. It will not stop me but may slow me down just a little, well the pain pills will also help. The doctor said I can do as much as I can endure and for a bucket list trip I can tolerate a lot of discomfort.
Were heading to Peru in the dry season but of course there is always a chance of rain. Well the forecast is starting to look promising for some very wet days. This is also okay, we are long time visitors to WDW and love rainy days in the parks. Everyone else runs for covers while we eagerly splash through puddles and claim the park for ourselves. I can't see this doing much to stop us other than me slopping around with a wet foot in my air cast. I can see some good stories being told to our friends and family over this. In addition to our camera load we're just going to pack our point and shoot underwater camera so we'll still come home with some great photos and even better memories.
The real concern we just read online today. There are areas in Peru that are under workers strikes. Currently this isn't impacting any of the areas that our ABD trip is heading into and Peru is a big country but that did cause us a little hesitation. Reading the headlines of strike, police deployment and tear gas is less than ideal when heading to a vacation destination. We're trusting in the mouse and laid back travel companions on our adult only trip. I just imagine what this adds onto the stress of the tour guides.
We'll post pictures and updates for our trip when we get back! Here's to wishing for plenty of pixie dust.
