Brokeback Mountain

When this gay man saw it last Friday the crowd consisted of middle-aged hetero couples and lots of young adults. There wasn't a dry eye in the house.

No kidding. Perharps they are afraid to see it because they are afraid their own repressed feelings will come out? That's all I can think of. :confused3

Yeah, that's it. Men who don't want to see the movie have repressed feelings of man lust. Please.

(American Beauty anyone?)

I prefer movies where cowboys shoot at each other or fart around the campfire. ;)

There were also several "well, it's ok if it's two women hooking up, har har" comments. While not offensive, I do think such comments are disrespectful and should be in their own thread, not tainting this one.

If you were referring to my quote I never implied that it would be more okay if two girls hooked up than two guys. I'm okay with it either way. I was joking that more men would be seeing the movie if the love scene was between cowgirls (my husband and son and all their friends included).

Here in Houston they are only showing it in 1 theater! :earseek:

in philadelphia, there are two theaters showing it within one block of each other! probably cos all the people from the suburbs are treking in to see it, as their local theaters won't carry it

Grow up.

I have been looking forward to this movie since the press all started.

Letterman and Leno have been getting great joke mileage from it for sure. That is ok. Nathan Lane has done some great stuff with it too.

I admit that Graphic love scenes make me squirm a bit.. gay or straight.. too much is too much for me......but I like a good story.

The movie "Torchsong Trilogy" is a great story about men in love. After the first half hour I did not even think about it being a "gay love story".. it just became a "love story". I am hoping that Brokeback Mountain will be the same way.

I'm thinking that will be the case for you. It's really a beautiful movie--scenery, actors, story. Enjoy! :flower:

I would really like to see this movie but I cannot find 1 single person that is willing to see it with me, my husband flat out refuses. I thought his sister would go, she loves a good tear jerker but the thought of two men in a love scene turned her off of it as well. Maybe I'll just venture out alone this weekend to see it.

DH and i will go see it. He LOVES Heath Ledger (owns EVERY one of his movies, even the independent one). After seeing Donnie Darko, we're huge Jake I-can't-spell-his-last-name fans too. I read the short story the movie is based on in preparation. I thought it was super-boring, but the movie has Heath. :)

I'm very much looking forward to seeing it; if only it would show at a local theater!

Out of curiosity, why'd the short story bore you?

I am finally getting a chance to post that I saw the movie...

Brokeback Mountain = Stunning!

I hope this movie sweeps the Oscars including Heath Ledger winning for Best Actor...Ang Lee should win for Director too, he has made movie magic once again!

Honestly, the whole story bored me. It was slow to develop and when it did, I felt like it just wasn't enough. It's supposed to be very emotional, but I didn't feel it at all. I have no problem at all with the same-sex situation either. I thought both characters lacked any real depth. I couldn't figure how they could make something that boring into a movie. I figure it is extremely emotional, and I think they picked the right actors for it. I'm a librarian and I've read A LOT of stuff, but this one bored the heck out of me. The story is highly acclaimed BTW.

Anyone else think its kinda funny that Heath and Michelle ended up hooking up after the movie, esp preggers? I think it's sort of funny. I never would have saw them as a couple before this...

Where's that? The Ritz, right? Its always the Ritz that dares to show the controversial films! :)

I actually saw a movie at the Ritz years ago about a gay priest, it was called "Priest", it was really good.

After watching The Soup and the Brokeback Kong / Memoirs of GeshiaKong skits, I am not sure I can watch either movie. The gay cowboys don't bother me, its remembering them as Kong that will.

OMG I was soooo cracking up at that. Hilarious.

SSB saw the NA premier in Toronto, with the stars there. I know lots of good praise, but I personally didn't think Oscar worthy... but won't be surprised if it gets at least a nomination. Saw "Capote" the same time frame, and thought much better film, overall. Philip Seymour Hoffman is outstanding!

:rotfl: I saw Brokeback and loved it, but the scene of the apes huging and swatting the planes ran through my head several times. I love The Soup!

::yes:: yes, it's two ritz theaters that are showing it! they actually had a free screening of the film before it came out, which is how I got to see it.
