Brokeback Mountain

I had off yesterday and the wife had to work. So I went to see King Kong but I misread the times and it had already started. Brokeback Mountain was just starting so I heard some Oscar buzz so I figured I'll go see it. Oh boy was I surprised. But I really enjoyed it. Even the love scenes were well done.

I saw it. It was a good movie. It moved a little slow, but it was good, The love scene didn't last long, & I wasn't uncomfortable at all.

I'd really like to see it too. Love scene with two men wouldn't bother me at all. I'd rather watch a love scene with two men than watch them kill each other!

::yes::

I would love to see it, but I doubt it will come to our town. We don't get very many 'controversial' films. But, I'll be seeing it when it comes out on DVD.

I think I'll wait until it's on DVD, too, since my constant movie companion is my 12yo son... don't think he'd want to see that!

I don't think I'd feel uncomfortable, my only discomfort comes from the fact that I know these two men are heterosexual and just how uncomfortable are THEY? Being an actor I always think from the actor's point of view...

I have to be honest, I found it a little boring.

Syriana on the other hand, excellent movie!!

:rotfl: You got that right! I will skip it too. :rolleyes1

John Wayne must be spinning in his grave.

I will definitely skip this movie. I prefer cowboy movies where men shoot at each other -- not blow each other kisses (or worse).

I was really hoping that this thread woudln't deteriorate into homophobia, but sadly, I was wrong.

I am very much looking forward to seeing this film and watching two people who love each other, despite all of the social pressures to deny their true selves.

I don't think it's homophobia, just what makes people uncomfortable. I know my boyfriend didn't really want to go, those scenes would make him squirm a bit. And he's not a homophobe. :)

Just because some people don't want to see a movie about a love story involving two male cowboys, or see a love scene between two men does not mean they are homophobic. I have no desire to see this either for the same reasons and others, but that doesn't make me homophobic.

Here in Houston they are only showing it in 1 theater! :earseek:

I'm not going to "lose" anything anymore than I didn't lose anything by not watching dozens of other films.

I saw an interview with Heath Ledger. He said it didn't bother him at all. He just thought about the fact that he was kissing another human being. He said he didn't think about the fact that it was another sex.

It is in most of the normal theatres up here in Toronto.

My DH and I just saw it and I was really moved by it. The futility of Ennis and Jack's relationship because of society's constraints...Anyway, it made me very sad/frustrated/angry.
And both actors were easy on the eyes, too! ;)
Question--who plays Ennis, and who plays Jack? And what else have they appeared in?
I think there will be Oscars for this movie (at least I hope so--it was very well done IMHO).

And here's my soapbox: Why are people so uncomfortable/obsessed with viewing scenes of homosexual love? Do they feel the same way when watching heterosexual love scenes? Are they afraid of something?
Talk amongst yourselves. I'll make popcorm. :flower:

If it were two cowgirls, it would be a completely different story ;)

I didn't grow up in a society where homosexuality was as widely accepted as it is now. As I've grown older (and thanks to some very good friends who are gay) I've learned to understand it better, and become much more accepting. But seeing two guys make out is still foreign to me, and I would still be a bit uncomfortable watching it. I'm not afraid of anything, and I'm sure there are people out there who would be uncomfortable watching a love scene between a heterosexual couple too. We all have our comfort levels, and for some this might be outside that. Doesn't make one homophobic. But you're right about one thing - if this were a cowgirl/cowgirl film, my dh would probably be all over it! :rotfl2:
