broadway show matinee attire

It's not inappropriate. But you will likely find that MOST patrons will not be as dressed up. Slacks and sweaters, many with jeans, is the norm. At night you'll see more dresses, but people are still much more casual these days than they used to be.

If you like the dress, buy it and rock it out! Just wear comfy boots/shoes for walking! :thumbsup2

We were at a Sunday matinee this weekend for Wicked and everyone was dressed to their liking. There were all styles, heck, our boys wore jeans and tshirts! I opted for a new dress and wore tights and heels. I saw lots of girls in semi formal dresses...If you want something new, go for it!

Enjoy!!

I was surprised by how casually people dressed for Broadway shows. Most people were in jeans. In DC, people dress up to go to the Kennedy Center.

I've never dressed up for a broadway show.... but if you like to,you should!

I've also never dressed up at all for a Broadway show, matinee or evening, but some people do and it's not a big deal. If you want to wear that, go right ahead! But yeah, definitely wear comfortable shoes. :)

There was a time when the dress code for Broadway was a lot more stringent than it is now. Most people go with "business casual" these days. Casual but not sloppy.

The dress is lovely, go ahead and wear it.

If you are coming to New York City, please don't wear those boots, you will twist an ankle on the sidewalks. The dress is very nice if that is what you are comfortable in. We don't dress up for Broadway, I wear jeans and a nice sweater.

Have a great time, what are you seeing? :)

Oh I know definitely not the boots!! I do have some comfortable shoes I think would work. WE are seeing All the Way with Bryan Cranston. I'm embarrassed to admit I havent been to a broadway show since I saw Yul Brennner in the King and I revival when I was in HS. He was amazing, that's still one of my favorite musicals. Growing up on LI we saw many shows but since I moved to Florida haven't gone. We do have Peabody Auditorium in Daytona which actually has some great touring company shows and acts (saw Jerry Seinfeld last year) its very small so we have enjoyed that. But there's nothing like broadway...can't wait!!!!

I am chaperoning a field trip to NYC next month and taking in a matinee of Wicked as well as a couple of evening performances (Vienna Philharmonic and NY Philharmonic). The High School kids will dress up, as the band director will most likely require dressy attire. Even for local concerts, he wants them to dress as it shows respect for the performers. I am just trying to figure how to pack for a trip with a few dressy events and a few regular touristy days.

NYC locals, what is the typical temp in mid March?

Have a wonderful time, I love Broadway! :thumbsup2 The last show we saw was Kinky Boots, and we have tickets to Aladdin for Easter Sunday. We usually stick to musicals

I would say mid '40's. BUT, anything could happen. You could get snow, you could get a warm, spring-like day. Best to plan a couple of layers, have fun!
