Bringing Home the Magic - Part 2 - 8/18/07 - 9/01/07- list of cruisers on page 1

What types of items do most folks give as gifts? Are they homemade crafts? Are they purchased items? I am so totally clueless about this and the whole fish extender thing.

Kasey - Hi I'm Laura - I've done several cruises with the DIS group and the gifts have all run the gamut from a roll of lifesavers covered with the logo of the thread, to rubber duckies with the name of DISser giving it. I've received a small deck of pirate: playing cards to a memento of the pirate: menu torn up and "burned" onto a small magnet. I have small postcards from London, from the DISsers on the other side of the pond as we like to say on our thread. To a small bag (ziplock style) of mints. Its just a small way of saying hi and to introduce our names.

Since I will be already in Spain (we are doing the 7/28 Med cruise and then 7 days in Paris) I won't have the opportunity to bring something with us. I am considering getting some small from the ports and putting a label on it from myself. Its just a small memento and on all the other cruises, we have always made it a point to say - it is NOT REQUIRED! It should only be done if you feel like it.

I have had a really good experience with 99% of the DISsers and I've found that we all just enjoy talking on here and like to spread the ::MickeyMo cheer.

Please remember that you don't have to give. If you'd like, then just make it small. I've heard on some other cruises that some had to leave the larger momentos behind. I almost had to as one cruise I got soooo many that it almost filled one suitcase. That cruise had over 300 DIS families!

Linda, someone else asked how to make them. I'm going to go ask one of my buddies to post directions or a picture. YOU have a very good question, though. I am not sure how many will have extenders. I am just planniing on everyone having them, and if they don't, the gifts I bring will go to CM's. They need a little something anyway! I usually only do one gift per stateroom anyway. You can either use the cruise list on page one or the lanyard list.

The fish extender thread with directions ;)

Laura, thank you so much for the great explanation. Now I have a much clearer picture. The fish extenders and gift giving sounds like a lot of fun. I think I will pull out a couple of catalogs(Oriental Trading and such) and sit down with Hannah and we can choose something unique together.:)

Thank you, Linda! I haven't figured out how to do all the stuff on the computer yet. I did find a picture of one. The link is on the first page of the WB PC cruise meet. "May 10, stealin the Magic Again."

Really, this is not a big deal. It's just for fun and no one will think anything negative if you do nothing with the fish extender thing.

Do we want a mini navigator for the diss board? Yes or no?

Do you want me to have a go? If so what do you want in it and can someone PM me any information already collected?

What format do you want? Do you want it emailed out to you, printed and taken to the ship or put somewhere to download it?

Answers ASAP please?

Lindsay

PS TWO MONTHS TODAY!!!!

I apologize if I gave the impression that this was a big issue for me and that I did not want to participate. Honestly, I just wanted a clearer idea of what kind of items others usually gave. This is the first time we have participated in a meet. Bear with me I'm still learning!:)

Where did this double post come from? Obviously having a mad day!

To utilise the post as I duplicated the next post - on EB cruise me and lindsay gave homemade bracelets, door hangers, eggs with sweets and those little like pompom head things with googly eyes. My mum went the other route and brought Welsh pencils. It just depends what you feel like doing - making them yourselves or buying something.

We tried to deliver them to all/most disers but with all the room changes I'm sure we might have missed a few along the way.

Trying again. I think I phrased it badly. How do you figure out how many extenders to put goodies in. I am more than willing to give up formal attire for presents but not the underwear. (trying to figure out how many items I have to squeeze in the luggage).

Linda:wave2:

On the last one we went with roughly 1 per group but did ours about 3 weeks before and then loads more people booked. I would say one per group is a reasonable amount. I think I counted around 80 disers looking at the list (but not sure how up to date this is as I think some people may have pulled out or are just very quiet on here). I think the lanyard list is probably the best thing to go off as this is a definative list of the number of disers going and just do 1 per party/dis name.

It will not be a problem. If they arrive as planned July 6, then uting them in the post may not be an issue. We would have a least 4 weeks. However there is someone, name slips me at this moment, who is leaving on the
13th. I am not sure if she is in England or in the USA.

I have been searchingfor the ziplok card holder and have found some, but they are vertical. I will keep searchin and let you all kow.

roughl figure is 2.50 plus shipping.

Thanks alot.

Lanyards look great.

Fish Extenders - I'm working on one (well, I've got some ideas on how to make one)

Gifts - I really want to participate and I'll see what I can do. BUT....flying into Europe with airline weight restrictions is really going to put a damper on extras. I'll just have to get very creative!

Here is the lanyard.

If there are any new folks wanting a lanyard please let me know. The cost right now is 2.02 plus shipping. So I guess this answers another question. I was planning on shipping them to everyone before we set sail. It will take to week plus shipping time to get them. Right now the ETA should be July 3 or 6.

Val is this correct?????

Hello all just giving the gift exchange a little bump. For those wanting to participate in an inexpensive mail out of a gift exchange ($5-10) prior to our cruise please PM me with info such as adult or child and age of child. Please include if the gift is for a male or female and your address.

I will be matching everyone up (kids with kids if possible) and sending you the information including addresses next week so everyone will have lots of time to pick something out and mail it before July 11th. I know this sounds early but with some of us doing BTB cruises it will be fun to receive our gifts before we leave.:rotfl2:

In the past we received little trinkets such as portable fans, beach balls, frisbee, sun spots (to tell if you are getting too much sun) and homemade gifts such as anklets etc. It's not about the cost its about the excitement of receiving something in the mail that isn't a bill:woohoo: Not to mention a great way to meet another diser before we cruise.

Have a great day
Pauline

Need help from any of you who were on the EB cruise. I am trying to find out what the backdrop looked like for the embarkation photos. Does anyone have a photo that they can post?

:) Just wanted to post and say that the embarkation photo is the same as always - nothing special. I don't know where your photos will be taken because you are not getting on in the normal spot, you are arriving on Deck 1 instead of 3 like normal. They will have the aft and forward open too. You guys are going to have so much fun. I still have not gotten all my Navigators to Smores because I am low on toner and haven't been able to get to the store, let me know if you still want them and I will get it done - NOW!

Kasey, I didn't mean to make you uncomfortable, quite the opposite! I just don't want you to worry too much about the fish extender. Have fun! And skip anything that is stressful. I wasn't trying to say that you were getting to uptight about it. I really am sorry if it came across that way. I was in "Don't Worry; Be Happy!" mode.

Lindsay thanks for doing the Navigators!

I am leaving on the 13th, frequent flyer mile issue...I will be in Barcelona the whole time, so if you see me that first day checking in, ask me what to hit and what to miss. I may be an expert by then. I'll be doing the beach, the chocolate factory, the Gaudi Park, and have already done Mont Serrat, Spanish Village, Ramblas, Gothic quarter, Magic Fountains, hop on busses and all those Gaudi buildings. Many things I will repeat, but NOT the Spanish Villiage. It just wasn't my thing, especially not with the treasure hunt.

I want to go to the cool building that lights up on the mountain. I think it's a church. I'm thinking of hitting the Picasso museum and the Dali museum, which is in a town nearby. I found out I can get to Mont Serrat by train, so I will probably take my kids to that, too, but it's not tops on my list. Scott seems to think they oughta see the black MaDonna, even though we are LDS! When I saw it, I decided not to make a wish, like you're supposed to. I felt it woud be disrespectful to Catholics, but I did touch it, so I could say I did. I hope that's not bad!

FYI Barcelona has great transportation (used metro from airport and within city) and I love the hop on busses. They don't explain anything, but take you all over, and you can get two days almost for the price of one. I never did taxis.

Sorry Dee, I just got back from a long weekend without internet access. I've gone through the mountain of emails - no one has PMed me with any requests, so I have no changes to make to the list. Double check the math though, I came out with 126 when I did it.

They look great!

Thank you for posting this - it helps to hear the opinion of someone who has been there. Rick Steves' guidebook didn't have good things to say about the Spanish Village, but Samantha Brown seemed to enjoy it. If it were free, I'd probably do it.

We also will be leaving here on the 13th, by choice, to give ourselves a little time to explore Barcelona and vicinity. We probably will take the tourist bus to give ourselves an idea of where everything we want to see is, and how far apart they are. We plan to take the train up to Montserrat. I found a walking tour of the Modernista route that is apparently put together by the city, and would like to do that too. Things are starting to gel now, and an itinerary is beginning to take shape.

And congratulations to your DD for her "crowning" achievement!

Thank you, DenverVal!

Also, I need to look for that Moderniste Tour. If I'm thinking right, the buses pass down that street, but I'd love to give it a walk about.

With love, Queen Mum. (Hey, I only have a year to enjoy this status, so I'm living it up!)

Oh, and she has her first parade on Sunday--what a kick!
