This may be a stupid question, but I've been looking everywhere for the answer! Has anyone ever brought their own bikes to OKW? Or any other resort for that matter? My DH and I are taking our 1st anniversary trip in Dec. and planning on spending alot of time at the resort, and would love to have our bikes there to ride. I know we can rent, but we have our own nice bikes and drive down, so that way we could ride every day w/out paying for theirs.

I figured the main problem would be where to store them, but if we kept them locked to our car at night I don't know why it wouln't be allowed? Anyone have any info? Thanks in advance!!

I'm curious about this, too. We're moving to OKW after three days at Ft. Wilderness and I would love to send a bike down with my parents. Plus, they're taking an extended trip in their RV and my father could use it at campgrounds.

I don't think that bikes are allowed to be used by guests anywhere on Disney property. They rent the surrey bikes at a few resorts but not the two wheeled variety. Probably for the same reasons they don't allow skate boards, rollerblades, roller skates, heelies, etc.

You can definitely use your bikes at OKW. We had ours along with us on a joint Fort Wilderness/OKW trip and were able to use them at both resorts. We had a first-floor 2BR at OKW and just wheeled them into the entryway. I'm sure you could also just lock them up somewhere out of the way. You can't use the bikes outside of the resort (on the roads, to get to other resorts, etc.) but you can definitely use them within OKW. They even rent bikes at Hanks...at least they used to.

We've brought our own bikes (and bike trailer / bike seat for the boys) to OKW the past two times we stayed there. Very convenient! We always get a ground floor room as it's just easiest with strollers and other gear so we store our bikes on the patio, locked to the railing (wheel them through the room and out onto the patio). No issues, no worries, no concerns. :thumbsup2

We use them several times a day - to get to the pool, the playground, to let the boys unwind or nap in the trailer after a long day, and of course to bike to Downtown Disney (or as close as you're allowed to get on bicycle, which is the parking lot behind Cirque De Soleil when biking over from either OKW or Saratoga Springs).

You have to have a light on your bike if you're going to use it at dusk or after dark, as a friendly security officer (on a bike) informed us as we were cruising along the path to Downtown Disney.

The boys loved cruising around OKW before bedtime! The end result of a relaxing ride:

They do rent bikes at several resorts. The Wilderness Lodge, Fort Wilderness and Old Key West all rent the 2-wheeled variety. We've biked from Fort Wilderness to the WL many, many times. You just can't use them on the roadways.

thanks!!! Makes me feel MUCH better.

I DID know you could rent bikes, we've stayed at Ft. Wilderness MANY a time, my parents have a big fifth wheel (going back in October actually, bikes included!). My concern was just that they wouldn't want to lose the business, or the storage concern. I didn't think about that though, just wheeling them through the room and locking up outside. Good idea. We are staying in a studio though, so as long as the patio/balcony is big enough I guess??

We love riding, so I'm very happy to know that it won't be a problem.

An OKW studio has a small square porch, not narrow and long. Might be difficult to put bikes on the porch. There wouldn't be any where to lock your bikes outside. Plus if you aren't on the first floor, you'd have to haul them up the stairs. And if you were on the first floor, your porch is easily accessed by someone who might want to steal them.

Probably if someone is bringing their own bike they drove in their own car and have a locking bike rack. This would be the best place to store them.

Riding bikes around the resort is one thing. I certainly would NOT try to ride a bike on the Disney roads.

There are just too many people driving around with no idea where they are going, looking at everything but the road, and it would be a dangerous ride. I'm not sure whether riding bikes on the roads at WDW is actually prohibited, but I sure think it would be a bad idea.

Riding bikes on the WDW roadways is prohibited, as are walking, jogging, roller-blading, etc. WDW Security will stop, pick you up and take you back to your resort if they find you doing any of the above on the roads.

Thanks for the clarification. I wasn't sure, but it's a good rule.

Roller-blading, skateboarding, scooters (Razer's etc), etc. are illegal on roadways or in public parking lots anywhere in Florida.
