Bringing a newbie! Need help deciding what to do on the first night!

I'm bringing my best friend with me for a week in March. We're staying at the Boardwalk. We'll be arriving on a Saturday morning, around 9 am. I don't have any solid plans for that day, although we'll probably spend most of it at EPCOT. But that evening I'm really torn on what to do. I have an 8 pm ressie at the Flying Fish, but that would mean we'd miss Illuminations. But I don't really want her first experience with Illuminations to be standing at some random spot in the World Showcase -- I like to get a good spot a couple of hours ahead of time and enjoy the evening leading up to Illuminations. But I don't know about sitting still for two hours on our first day!

Aurgh! I'm driving myself nuts! Any ideas?

well some of the WDW tours included a private place for illiuinations - just do one -plus you learn a bunch of stuff!!!

otherwise I would be between Mexico and Norway an hour before hand - this spot has become very popular.

see which way the wind is blowing - it should be blowing away from mexico & norway - if it is not - just go over to France, Great britian. (better to get back to BW, too).

you don't want the wind blowing at you - you will see more smoke than fireworks.

Or, you could change your dinner ressie for that night to Rose & Crown (if there is any availability) and watch Illuminations from there. You could reschedule Flying Fish to another night.

That sounds great, but I looked them all over and did not see anything about illuminations. Could you please be more specific because it seems I need it.

OP: I like the spot b/t Mexico and Norway too. I think you can see well from many places and would prefer to enjoy my time in Epcot as oppposed to sitting for an hour or two to be in the front row to see a fireworks display. JMO, but I think you are overthinking.

Actually, the sitting is part of the fun. I enjoy relaxing while listening to the music watching the parade (the parade may not run anymore, can't remember), watching the torches light up around the lagoon, and of course my favorite drinks and munchies from around the WS. My point is that it's our first night, so relaxing for a couple of hours might not be as appealing. Trust me, once you get used to the view from my favorite spot, it's hard to accept standing in spots where others say they "can see well" -- cause it's just not the same.

Thanks for the ideas, everyone. I think I'm going to play it by ear that day -- and give her the choice. If we're in the mood to chill for an hour or two, then we'll stay at the WS, otherwise, we'll keep on playing and head for our 8 pm ressie at Flying Fish later.

With choices like this, it's hard to go wrong, isn't it??
