I'm leaning between secondary education with an emphasis in English and hospitality management, but I'm more likely going to go for seced than hospitality. For one thing, there's no bachelor's program here for hospitality that's not at a (very expensive) private school. For seced, I could go to a community college and get my general education requirements done, then transfer to the 4 year school down the street from my house. They have an excellent education program.

That would be excellent. Teachers make decent to very good wages, and with some experience it's easy to move to a higher paying state if your lifestyle allows you to move. Retirement comes soon and pensions are alright compared to almost every other professional profession.

A small perk that almost works. For some odd reason daycares close on school breaks. Almost the same days as teachers have off, other than in service days. Works for teachers better than other parents that work M-F 50weeks a year, they don't get a Christmas, Presidents day, Columbus Day or Spring Break off.

Yeah, I hadn't thought to look at salary, but I just did and wow, Chicago teachers get paid a lot  (at least to me, with my $8-11/hr jobs :lmao:). But yeah, the idea of being to relocate fairly easily is nice. Daycare's something I don't have to think about any time soon, but will hopefully have to consider down the road.

Wow, I didn't look at the link, but in CA teachers are totally underpaid. But I don't want to make any career advice. I'm stuck in my profession, but I can't say it's terrible. Only when we have vacancies, of which we know have 3/8, that's not good, one more and we would be half vacant! :scared1:

I guess we need to get our act together, although no one wants to move over Christmas so it's pointless. :faint:

I'll keep working on gettin our house clean so we can hopefully adopt a playmate for Mac. I'll post a pic of the somewhat clean house tomorrow.

I didn't think about daycare either. Until I wondered why it was closed so often.

School teachers in ca are underpaid. Are you talking about doing childcare? So many things to think about that issue. To many people accuse you of doing things. then the battle with the state of what you have to have or what you cant have.

I started taking sign language, but now by next year you have to have a bachelors degree to interpret. It can pay very well as there are not enough intrepreters out there. I really enjoy learning it.

States tend to increase teacher salaries when they boom, which was what 15years ago in CA, and 15 years before that. Then reduce them sometimes when things go bad. Which in Cali has been about 20 of those 30 years.

Some have stayed well inflated. I have two uncles who teach. One HS and one University, guess who makes the most? You would probably be wrong for the first 15 years of thier careers, and one is done the other doesn't see the end of working.

I have a friend who is a elementary school teacher in a terrible wage state and she is desperatly trying to get more credits and a masters to climb there wage scale as her salary decreased for the last 3 years. But at least she has more vacation days.

DS has a guitar class in 30 minutes. Thankfully, the teacher lives about 5 minutes away.

Did you have a good day today? I see you got more sleep...

Okay Lasters. I'll share and seek your position. This is a moral "what would you do" situation.....

I went to the post office yesterday to buy stamps so that I could post my Christmas cards. I normally have a bunch of cards for Australia and a heap of international cards as well. The lady who served me was the sullen, non-customer friendly type and everything I asked her for seemed like it was such an effort.

She huffed when she had to tear out an uneven number of local stamps. And then she sighed when she had to go to the back to get some international stamps. And then it was a huge effort for her to tear the brand spanking new sheet of international stamps to give me the quantity I wanted.

I guess I must have unnerved her. (I swear....all I did was raise an eyebrow)....
She then proceeded to SILENTLY take the payment and then volunteered (she didn't even ask) to put all my stamps into an envelop.

When I got home and starting with the tongue and lick process, I discovered that she had inadvertently placed ALL the brand spanking new sheet of international stamps in my envelop. There is $75 worth of EXTRA stamps there.

What would you do?

Keep it? Take it back?

It was an alright day. Meant to watch some evening TV and never did. Oh well.

Good night though. I'm headed to bed. Keep rocking when you get from the lesson.

I would take them back. I know from working as a cashier that if you come up short you can be fired. Hopefully she just had a bad day. I usually try to give people the benefit of the doubt. She also may be going through something and given the the time of year it may be stressing her out.

Okay you guys someone post something, anything. I feel like I am in the twilight zone.

I'm okay :) What's wrong with your computer?

I'm trying to decide if it'll be worth it to work full time and go to school part time, or work part time and go to school full time.

Princess - I would return the stamps. Being a good Boy Scout leader, I would feel so guilty if I didn't but I would be sure to go at the same time of day etc. to find the same lady and really smile and make her feel 'guilty' a little bit for treating me so brusquely and then making such a big mistake :rotfl:

usnuz - Did you decide what to buy your parents for Christmas?
What's wrong with your computer?

skiingfast - You bad!

I absolutely have to go home tonight after work and start wrapping gifts. There is no way I can put this off any longer :rolleyes1

This is the one holiday job I underestimate time-wise and then get bogged down on at the last minute every year. Wrapping as I go doesn't work since there isn't space anywhere to keep the things spread out to do it until close to the end.

Anyone else need to ventilate a little?

Otherwise I am getting excited for my trip! I have my list of things to get at the store for traveling like gum and nail polish remover pads.

What is the one thing that trips you up for the holidays?

Are the boards slow today? UGH! Some how, somebody put fake windows in my computer. This has screwed up alot of accounts for me.

Gifts are not for my parents, they are my husbands parents. I would wrap your gifts for you if I lived near by. I should get a job doing that at home. I wish I could find a job from home.

I hope your trip is great and enjoy it. How exciting.

I would probably work part time, as it will let you focus on your school work.
