Break Dancing a Sport?

On Break dancing as a sport, I'm firmly in the "Who Cares?" camp.

It would just be one more of the "I NEVER watch this" sports. I'd watch grass grow, or golf, before break dancing.

They should make pole dancing an Olympic sport before break dancing, with competitors getting extra points for having super high heeled shoes on. 4" or higher and you get an automatic points boost. :rotfl:

And I'd like to know if Sir Mix A Lot or NWA songs will be permissible for Olympic break dancing.
I can totally get behind the pole dancing as a sport. I don't know how many people realize how much strength and control it takes. I've seen some AMAZING feats of strength. And +10 on the heels. I can hardly stand up in them, much less walk, and FORGET about dancing! LOL!

Also, is 2 LIve Crew a bridge too far?

They do have competitive dance competitions for all kinds of dance styles. I don't see break dancing as any different. Not sure if it is Olympic worthy.

For the summer Olympics, the Try Guys did a series on lesser known sports, one of them was breakdancing. It also tells about the history and the scoring system.

I remember reading that competitive ballroom dancing was once considered to be added, but was voted down.

If going by reasonable objective standards used for other sports, women’s ice hockey would be eliminated. I’m glad it’s not, but far fewer countries can field a competitive team than for baseball or softball. You’ve got two A level teams, Canada and the US, then a few C minus teams, and the rest who’d get smacked by a high school girls team from Minnesota or Manitoba.

If making a horse prance around is an Olympic sport, then so should be break dancing.

However, the IOC is an evil, corrupt institution.

No problem with Parkour, Break dancing or Double Dutch jumping since each require as much strength, timing and coordination as Gymnastics. In fact, I bet many gymnasts would prefer some fun in one of these to liven things up. I just now read that they let skateboarding in last year, if I knew I would have watched.

When I was younger it was so easy to just flip on the TV plunk down and watch with downtime here and there, I miss just knowing on channel 4 there will be Olympics 24/7 - the new way of life makes all these everyday checkout line & watercooler chat experiences so hard to reach.... sigh

And to add: sports come and go, lets not forget poodle clipping and poetry were once in the olympics.
Oh My Ga, this is real

I agree, except that would likely mean eliminating men's hockey as well - and you know that's not happening anytime soon.

Speaking of hockey, I heard that there's been a push to try to move it to the Summer Olympics, so that the NHL players would be able to participate again.

Absolutely, the only reason women’s hockey stays is because of long established men’s hockey.

As for moving hockey to the Summer games, why not? The Winter Olympix can fill the space with ice break dancing. ;)
