Brazilian Tour Groups 101

So great to have some Brazilians on the DIS. I am soooo sorry for some of the offensive generalizations made here. While there may be some folks who are inconsiderate that are part of a tour group, there are plenty of equally rude non-tour-group Americans - who also speak perfectly good English and often pretend THEY don't understand when they are asked to follow certain rules. :thumbsup2

Okay, so maybe I take back the part about Americans speaking perfectly good English...but most of them understand English at least, and many have had instruction almost entirely in English since they were born. :)

Of course there are also plenty of polite folks of all walks of life, too.

Peace all!

Thanks so much for all the information about the Brazil groups. When you understand more, you are more tolerable.

I will say that our experience has not been as positive. We were in WDW in June/July this past summer. We did not have any issues within the parks except at the Fantasmic show (while waiting for it to start). It was pleasant for about the first 30 minutes but after that the chanting got quite old. They did start the wave with the crowd which was entertaining (as some one already mentioned on this thread), but they were probably not sitting as close to them as we were.

I was actually quite shocked at the chaperones. They stood in front of the groups and provocatively danced. It was extremely innappropriate in front of the young children that were in attendance. They were grabbing parts of their bodies they should not have been and also touching others while dancing together. I realize their culture is different, but I also feel when traveling to another country you need to be respectful of our culture. In fact, I felt it was very irresponsible of the adults in the group.

As for the kids, I am a teacher and would find it hard to control any group of teenagers in such a large group. It would be more appropriate to break them down into smaller groups although someone had mentioned there are not a lot of chaperones so maybe that is difficult to do. But again, the kids were not the real problem in our experience.

We are going back in January, so will probably encounter some groups again. I do find the info given helpful!

I personally make it a rule to avoid any large groups simply because they are large groups. If they all descend at once on a line or fastpass station it becomes quite congested so we just head the other way.

As for rudeness, I haven't noticed more rudeness from Brazilians than people in general. The singing and chanting can be annoying but I don't really consider it rude.

:flower3:..to the person..."posting"...basic "sayings" that can help

....our future..encounters. [ i made copies ]

...the "b-girls".....problem. in reality, it isn't a whole group, but
those in the groups...where we had several "bad" -behavior
encounters.

..we were there @ the same time as vette-c.99. unless you was
experienced...what others had to "suffered"...then you don't understand
...how "bad"....some of the "acting - out"....we experienced.

...we called security more than once, and several cast members expressed
their frustrations over not being able to "set limits"..or redirect some of
the b*girls' behaviors.

just a few...of what we saw. throwing trash..on the disney icons, throwing
trash..on the grounds. abusing the props,- hitting tennis balls up against
..andy's room, forcing their interactions with characters....while it was
our "turn"- aggressively...trying to push...us out. not chanting but screaming
and flippin ....during pre-shows. [ one father with 2 small children @ fanastic
.."rose" up. no respect, for any person, cast members, or disney property,
over & over again. that almost..became....a riot. what a mess! the cast
members..huddle with the escorts.. & they went into different sections,
& try to "shut " them down. interestly enough....they started a new
"chant"....u-s-a, as if trying to make up..their intrusiveness, :confused3

for us, they tried to blocked...the sidewalk, back to our room...on several
occasions, once a young lady physically -
tried to forced...me into the bushes. [ i made the lane for my family. iam
not a big person.....but iam mostly "muscle"..so she bounced off me into
the bushes..herself ]

* their escort...tried...to contain & redirect..but she was overwhelmed,
and as son as she left..they went right back to "acting aggressively, &
intrusive. " { some behaviors....very upsetting "what"..we were forced
...endured. } gave new.."meanings".....to the old adage..."the ugly
americans."

however, we also experienced...2 young men..opened the caf. door for
us. their escorts.....tried over & over to redirect. [ so they are aware
& trying ], * once the "shows"..start....they were all well~behaved,
{ no outbursts} also...when their escorts..were on the "scene", they
were polite..& spoke pretty~good english. when they were in a small
group.."2 or 3...they presented good-manners too us.

i just like to say, vettegirl....was 100% accurate in her observations.

...i think..some corrective measures..are needed by disney's response
team..& from my observations...i think one of the biggest problem,
is not enough...."escorts" for the over all numbers....,

....[ i left out the most offensive behaviors..that really upset...us,
having our pre -teen daughter....having to see. we have had
enough....@ the resort, so we went to the dvc...club...& brought
into...a "blt ownership." we have tried to avoid..them, but in
the parks...that isn't always..a option. ]

We were at WDW in July 2007 and was pleasantly suprised at the courtesy of some members of these groups. While in line for Soarin several teens from one group were ahead of the rest of their party and allowed us to go ahead while waiting on the rest of their group to catch up. We also had no problems at AK the previous day with several large groups from Brazil in the park that day.

:)

When we were there last week I saw no tour groups at all. There were alot of visitors seemingly from other countries, but they were families, and behaved as nicely as anyone from around these parts. Had no complaints, and I was glad there were no large groups. When I was there for 2 days in January, there were groups and it was a hassle dealing with the large crowds at rides.

In the world back in 2008 we didn't see any Brazilians, but we DID run into an Argentinian teen tour group on several occasions.
They made the parks pretty crowded an hectic, but they were never especially rude, from what I saw.

Here this week as are the BTGs and flag people. First time experience for me. Generally behaved which is good for any teenage group. Problem is the mass and momentum of the group. Fill up the monorail, fill up the lines, larger than most other groups including cheer groups...guess it is a trade off for coming to WDW in value season..

After 15 years of going in October, my son and I just returned from our first ever trip in July. He's been going since 3rd grade and this was his college graduation trip. Here is our advice on how to survive hundreds of teens from Brazil (cue theme song from Jaws):
Relax, enjoy your vacation. Have fun with them. (Cue song from Three Caballeros)
Really, after reading all the horror stories, we found them to be polite, fun, energetic, and part of the experience.
We stayed at All Star Sports, and it was really more like a Brazilian girls dorm, but all they did was have fun. We never found them rude. They seemed like any normal teenager. (I am a teacher, I deal with teens all the time).
While in the parks there were large groups everywhere with the flags, but they never cut in line, they never ran us over.
As we were heading home we talked about making it an annual event. They added a fun spirit to Disney.
We only wished we could speak Spanish and were curious why it was almost all girls.

hmmmm strange... the only thing i remember about the Brazilian tour groups is how rude, loud and how they play like they don't speak English. they dont pay attention to the rules, skip lines, and are quite obnoxious. so if i were running Disney, i wouldnt let them come. they ruin it for everyone!!!!!

I've only encountered the Brazilian tour groups once, and fortunately, they weren't swarming the Parks. We were able to largely avoid them.

Overall, I didn't find them worse than any other large group of teens. I think the behavior of the Pop Warner kids has them beat.

I do remember a little pushing in line at the Haunted Mansion.

The thing I can't stand is the chanting, singing, and cheering. It's completely unacceptable in the Parks. Disney works hard to create a "themed environment." The line at the Haunted Mansion is designed as a prelude of what's to come. I don't want to hear "Go Team!" over and over. It's like people blasting music our of their car windows. It makes me want to start blasting Donny and Marie!

The chanting etc... may be ok at the Resorts, as long as it's not early in the morning, or late at night.

And as for what language their speaking? Eh... if English doesn't work, try whatever. As we struggled with Japanese in Tokyo, we actually found someone who spoke Spanish! You never know.
