The Brazilian kids pretend not to understand English and ignore you and the home grown kids curse you, then ignore you. What's the real difference?
Yeah. United States citizens never do any of that stuff. Littering? Why we in the U.S. would NEVER do any of that. I wonder where all the litter in every U.S. city comes from? Maybe it all blows in when we get a stiff breeze from the south. Blows it all in from Brazil. Yeah that's it.
Did I say Americans are perfect? Nope, don't think so. But, here's the difference. Take one family of 4 or 5, and have them leave their counter service table full of 'leavings'. Then, compare that to a group of 30, taking up multiple tables, leaving those tables for someone else to clean up. Quite a difference.
Goofy4Tink,
I think you are generalizing about all Brazilians. My guess is there are some with bad manners just like you'd find anywhere else.
I don't think you'll see Disney turning them away any time soon. Here's a good article on CNN about the impact of BTG's in central FL:
http://www.cnn.com/2012/01/24/travel/brazilian-tourist-invasion/index.html
Spending that kind of money I welcome them with open arms, besides Brazilian women are gorgeous.
Here are some highlights from the article:
And while the US economy was tanking the BTG's helped keep Disney profitable and able to maintain upkeep:
I suppose it is a gross generalization. But, it is generally the Brazilian groups that I run into at WDW that pose the biggest issue. Are they all poorly behaved? Of course not. But it does seem to be a higher percentage of BTGs that behave badly as compared with other groups.
we got stuck on the monorail with them from tupperware. Let me just say I will never purchase anything from tupperware again for the rest of my life. SO loud, SO rude, there is no reason or excuse for their behavior they display. I dont want to hear them sing do you?
Been there with this group in the past. I'm telling you, it's a pack mentality. You put a nicely behaved golden retriever, who is a gently family pet, into a group of 5 other dogs, and it would amaze you what that golden will do. completely different dog in a pack vs in the family home. Seems to work with people as well!!!
I have been to Disney many times during the times when Brazilian tour groups, cheerleaders, etc. are also attending.
I do not generally have an issue with the chanting in the park but I do think it is rude to do it in a line (or during a ride/attraction/restaurant) when you are in a tight space with other people that may not want to hear loud chanting. That is common courtesy.
I also have an issue with one tour guide getting in the FP line and getting 100FP tickets. I do not think Disney should limit the number FP obtained per person but I do think Disney should have a special FP machine specifically designated for people that are obtaining say more than 15 FP. It can be a dedicated FP line just for tour guides or other large groups.
As for line cutting, yes it is annoying and yes it happens but it is in our hands to report that to a CM.
As a Floridian however, these are minor annoyances when tourism is what keeps this state afloat. In a bad economy any dollar, even loud chanting Brazilian dollars, are appreciated.
Finally, to some posters that complain about them not understanding English or "pretending" to not understand English, that is extremely xenophobic. They do not understand English because they are from another country. When I went to Italy, I did not understand Italian. Should I have stayed home? It is not a requirement to speak English to visit Disney World or anywhere else for that matter.
Xenopobic? Nope. Not when I get the 'no English' to my face, and then giggles and very nice English as soon as I turn my back...really, this has happened more times than I can count. And it is always Brazilian teen girls...always. They come rushing up, bang into you, or try to cut in line to get to their friends, or closer to the front of the counter service lines. You stop them, with an 'Excuse me, the line starts back there.' and you get a 'No English', then they turn, giggle, and say something in close to perfect English. The vast majority of these kids speak some English. As do their tour guides. The tour guides have to in order to be able to get assistence in some situations.
Ok, here's what the Brits think of Americans in WDW (warning on link for swearing, don't click if you are offended by swearing)

Apparently we are rude and obnoxious.
Oh man...so a parent commented, out loud, during the manatee spiel, about the manatee eating lettuce. Shoot me at dawn. Not exactly what I would call rude. Probably more rude to use the language he used. Shows a decided lack of vocabulary.
I just can't agree with a lot of the remarks about the tour groups, whether they are Brazilian or not. They pay their money and buy their tickets, the same as me. The comment about them having their own shirts is ridiculous. I sometimes travel alone and I have my own shirt. As far as the group leader running ahead and getting 50-70 fast passes at a clip, would you rather that they go separately and get in line and get them individually? That would take a lot longer than if one person gets them all at once. I am sorry, the Brazilian tour groups have just as much a right to be at the parks as the cheerleaders, Pop Warner football teams, conventioners, families, and yes, even single travelers. Where do you draw the line, a familiy of five is ok, but a family of eight is a large group? I am sure this post will be removed, as one of my earlier posts was removed, but I guess I just wanted to ventagain. I guess, when I go to Disney next time, I will borrow a shirt from my neighbor, so I don't have to wear my own shrt.
You misunderstand me. If someone has paid their park entrance, then sure, they have the same rights as I do. They don't get more rights...they get equal rights. Now, if they have paid for VIP tour guides, then sure, they get more and better rights. But that isn't my issue. I would like to see common courtesy...the same courtesy I would like to think these kids would show if they were out with their parents in their own country. But something happens as soon as you put more than 10 people in a group....pack mentality takes over. Happens no matter who the group is...American, Brazilian or Japanese.
And so what if they all have the same shirts??? Most groups do. I don't think anyone took issue with that but I could have missed that post. Besides, it makes it easier to see them coming, so I can head in another direction. I don't want to get behind a huge group...any huge group.
And the FP usage?? As I stated before, I would like one of two things to happen...
1. a dedicated FP maching, manned by a CM, that is for the express use of those in groups larger than 20.
or...
2. several people getting into the FP lines, splitting the number of FPs being taken. This way, no one line is going to be hugely impacted by one guide standing there, getting 35 FPs.That takes a fair amount of time!!!
Really....I don't dislike Brazilians. My prom date, way back in the dark ages, was our high school foreign exchange student from Brazil.
My issue is with all large groups that feel that rules don't apply to them. Those groups that feel it's ok to run crazy in the parks, knocking children over, bangiing into others, screaming and shouting on attractions. Doesn't much matter where they are from.
Let me share a slightly different take. My dh and dd (then about 14) were at Night of Joy the year it was as DHS. We are regular church attenders, so figured it would be fun to check it out. We headed to ToT. We got into the line to wait...it was about a 25 min wait. Well..up from behind us came this group of teenaged girls. They were yelling and screaming. It was awful. We couldn't hear ourselves speak, so we finally stopped trying to have a conversation. Well, they ended up in our boarding group. OMG!!! The doors hadn't even closed when they started yelling. From start to finish....constant yelling and screaming. We got off the ride...my dd turned to me and said...'Well then...there's a good example of how not to behave out in public. That was nasty!'
Then, as we exited the gift shop and headed out of the ToT area, another group of teenaged girls came running up, grabbed dd and I (thank God dh was in the rest room!!), yelling 'hugs for Jesus, hugs for Jesus!!!'. As I said, I'm as spiritual as the next person, more so than most, but this was really unwelcome!!!
So, it's not just BTGs that are offending groups. It can be religious groups, it can be school groups...I've seen awful behaviour from all manner of groups. But for some reason, the BTGs just seem to come across as much more entitled than others. Could be cultural..not sure.
