Brasilian tour groups?

Not to continue to fan the flames--but I think that the behavior of the Brazalians tour groups is in part due to "mob" mentality and the other part might be cultural.

I think these kids are probably upper class, privileged and indulged teens. They may feel "entitled" to be given their way--regardless and thoughtless of others feelings. Forgive them--they know not what they do--type thing!

And if my knowledge of US culture were gained through our reality TV, I would think entitlement behavior, rudeness, and ethnocentrism would be the norm!

Just FYI, it's "horde", not "hoard." :rolleyes1

...I guess that would mean, filling every available corner of your house with BTG's. Before you know it, your family has an intervention, but you can't seem to part with any of the BTG's. They're getting very expensive to feed, but you continue to bring more and more home. Your house is littered with flags and backpacks. Matching t-shirts fill your washer and dryer. The neighbors are complaining about the chanting. ;)

WDW was not built with the expectation of a tour group (from anywhere) of 50+ people ....... getting on the line to Test Track, heading in to a Counter Service dining place, etc......it's a nightmare for everybody else.

Tour groups have to be the worst travelers especially at all the attraction parks.... they act like the place is open for them and no one else counts

I have been to WDW many times in january and haven't had any huge problems with large groups. A little chanting as they walked between attractions but thankfully, no queue jumping or pushing.
But I did copy a few key phrases on to a 3x5 card. I can only remember a couple off hand sicne I have never needed them.

Excuse Me
Line cutting is not permitted
Please stop pushing me

I figure that even if I butcher the language I can flash them the card (better than flashing somethning else)

We were there last week. They were definitely there!! But I tried to folllow the advice here. Zig when they zag or stay out in front of them. We were walking into the Nemo show at AK and had 50 or so try to slide in front of us in the line. My DH made a very loud comment...so loud their guide heard him and stopped them to let us pass. It was pretty obvious who was there first. (and it wasn't them)

The only other issues we had were not with the groups but with 2 foreign women. The first one was at MK, watching the band in LS. This lady came up from the right with her camcorder and started shoving my 5yo to the left. There was PLENTY of room for her, so no need for her to push my child. :headache: She got a strong shove back in the other direction with me saying "Do not touch my daughter again!" She acted like she didn't understand me. Who knows, maybe she didn't. I think the shove to the right would be universal.

The other time was at DHS in the Ariel show. We're walking across our aisle to fill up every available seat, and this woman plops down in the dead center of the row with her child. I said "Ma'am, we're supposed to move all the way across and fill in" She said "I no move. You move." I said "No. You move. That's the rule. I'll be happy to stand here until a CM comes and tells you to move." She got up and cursed me while she walked a whopping 5 seats further. She would have been in the middle if she hadn't shoved in front of us as we were coming through the doors. :lmao:

A very "polite" stepping on the toes usually corrects this ...just for future reference.

I'm pretty new posting on these boards (been reading a while) but I just came back from WDW and I had a couple of insights on the tour groups.

My first thought is that it has more to do with the fact that they are young than that they are from another country. Take 50-odd adolescents far, far away from their parents and release them into a theme park---and I'm not surprised some of them go a little wild.

My second thought is that if you (general you) don't speak the predominant language of an area, it is easy to fall into your own little "bubble" and just go along doing what you want to do/have to do, without thinking so much of other people. It's not that they don't know manners or don't care, it's that when you are only partially understanding 90% of what is going on around you, it can be tempting to simply block it out.

All that said, when I mentioned that tour groups were a hot button topic on this board, my husband said "I LOVE them! Last time we were here I was working my way through a big crowd of them and one of the women grabbed my butt! What a confidence booster!"

He was a little disappointed he didn't get his butt grabbed this time.:rotfl:

Well..I just got back from my Universal trip and I can't imagine there were any people left in the country of Brazil since they were all in Universal.I will say this...Universal is on top of any bad group behavior ..I had one incident there on the Hulk where an entire group of 50 including the flag leader tried to cut up the line.I held firm on not letting them cut and a Universal employee was IMMEDIATELY over and made them go to the back of the line. From that point on I changed direction when I saw them coming. The good thing at Universal is I had the resort express pass and these groups did not , so it was MUCH easier to avoid them.

Which month or months are the busiest for the Brazilian tour groups? Is June usually a busy time for the BTG's? We are planning our trip for June 8-16 and wondered how busy it is then?

It probably would be better if they separated into smaller groups.

LOL! Your DH is funny!

I'm a little naive I guess, but I'm wondering, why is the thought of seeing a Brasilian tour group so objectional? The reaction on these boards seems to border on hysteria! Are they like the Mongol hoardes? Why are they an issue? Please enlighten me.

I didn't read all the replies on this thread. We were just there and although they are a massive group and hard to weave through they weren't THAT bad. Yes they chanted on occasion and did the wave A LOT :lmao: One thing that did get on my nerves is their leaders would have stacks of fast passes and would hand them out to the whole group. This would make the fast past lines horribly long. Like 50 kids going in to Toy Story Mania's fast past line at the same time on top of all the people who had fast passes at that time. The only other down side is they would gather right near the front of the park or in the middle of a bridge..I know this probably made it easier for them but it sure made it difficult for everyone else to get by.

Posting just to say I see this and I'm agreeing 100% with it.

We were just at MK a few days ago and had the first encounter with a rude group. One person was in line, two mothers and six kids make their way up through the line past everyone - my husband says "whoa, get in line" and she says "group" "group" and points to the front of the line. We let it go. Then a husband with 4 more kids shows up and lifts up the rope to join the group and again, my husband says "we already let 8 of you in, this isn't happening again" and he goes into a totally fluent loud rant on how Americans are supposed to be polite and courteous, my husband tells him (and not too quietly now) that this isn't the way things are done here and we're visitors too - from Canada and they might want to get some social skills and manners before visiting. He got the thumbs up from the surrounding people. Too bad the CM's don't have more power when they see these things going on in their lines.

That stinks, I think Disney Cms are afraid to rock the boat and lose $$..I was expecting similar from the Universal Tms there, and was very surprised to see they wouldn't put up with it.In addition to my experience on the Hulk there were 2 others I witnessed and the universal employees were ALL over that behavior.I was pleasantly surprised.
