I'm here now with DS on an impromptu trip. Staying at BWPPI, and we went in search of food tonight after our long, long day of flying. (note: getting a "deal" with Miles and only spending 12.5K miles per person for a flight will result in you visiting four airports in one day, and won't be anywhere near as fun as you thought it might be!)
We were heading to Millie's or Mimi's, and noticed a brand new place at Carousel, called Pizza Press. I think it used to be the space for Quiznos.
Who can pass up what appeared to be freshly made pizza, right? (OK, plenty of people, but let's just go with it, LOL)
We headed in, and found out that today (the 14th) is only their FOURTH day in business. How amazing is that? The owner was there bustling around, being excited. We ordered a very very simple cheese pizza, just mozzarella (their normal cheese is mozz, ricotta, and parmesan, but I despite ricotta, and me and parmesan have a love/hate relationship). It's not a huge pizza by any means, and it's thin thin THIN crust (they take the hunk of dough and put it in a press to make the disc), but it was pretty tasty!
My 8 year old and I split it; there were 4 slices, and I had 1.5 while DS ate the rest.
Afterwards, DS told the owner that he should call it Pizza Perfect, and gave a bunch of thumbs-up. He said he liked it more than mass produced pizza because he "could actually taste the pizza".
For me, I felt the sauce was a bit too sweet, but tomatoes and I are iffy anyway, unless I'm literally picking that tomato off the vine and eating it right then and there.
So you guys should try it! They are working out the kinks right now...the oven is really loud and there's a too-tall glass shield where you order directly from the guy making the pizza, and the beers are massively expensive (7.50 for a pint of whatever), but they'll figure it out. The owner seems enthusiastic, and he told me that they had worked out the menu over time with lots of experiments (he said that he had a Disney chef (or former Disney chef?) helping with the sauce recipe), and I think this place could be good.
(basic cheese pizza is $8. with toppings it's $10. they have some specialities as well but I didn't pay attention to them.)
