I'm here now with DS on an impromptu trip. Staying at BWPPI, and we went in search of food tonight after our long, long day of flying. (note: getting a "deal" with Miles and only spending 12.5K miles per person for a flight will result in you visiting four airports in one day, and won't be anywhere near as fun as you thought it might be!)

We were heading to Millie's or Mimi's, and noticed a brand new place at Carousel, called Pizza Press. I think it used to be the space for Quiznos.

Who can pass up what appeared to be freshly made pizza, right? (OK, plenty of people, but let's just go with it, LOL)

We headed in, and found out that today (the 14th) is only their FOURTH day in business. How amazing is that? The owner was there bustling around, being excited. We ordered a very very simple cheese pizza, just mozzarella (their normal cheese is mozz, ricotta, and parmesan, but I despite ricotta, and me and parmesan have a love/hate relationship). It's not a huge pizza by any means, and it's thin thin THIN crust (they take the hunk of dough and put it in a press to make the disc), but it was pretty tasty!

My 8 year old and I split it; there were 4 slices, and I had 1.5 while DS ate the rest.

Afterwards, DS told the owner that he should call it Pizza Perfect, and gave a bunch of thumbs-up. He said he liked it more than mass produced pizza because he "could actually taste the pizza".

For me, I felt the sauce was a bit too sweet, but tomatoes and I are iffy anyway, unless I'm literally picking that tomato off the vine and eating it right then and there. :)

So you guys should try it! They are working out the kinks right now...the oven is really loud and there's a too-tall glass shield where you order directly from the guy making the pizza, and the beers are massively expensive (7.50 for a pint of whatever), but they'll figure it out. The owner seems enthusiastic, and he told me that they had worked out the menu over time with lots of experiments (he said that he had a Disney chef (or former Disney chef?) helping with the sauce recipe), and I think this place could be good.

(basic cheese pizza is $8. with toppings it's $10. they have some specialities as well but I didn't pay attention to them.)

Thanks for the info. What size was the pizza for $10? Also, how far was the walk from DL entrance(minutes)?

if it's in Quizno's spot then it's just across the street and a little to the left from the entrance

Thanks for sharing! My DD5 LOVES pizza. We will be staying at the FFI, which has a Pizza Hut in on the 3rd floor, but it is only open for breakfast and dinner. When we go back for a rest break in the afternoon she asks if the pizza place is open (for lunch)..the answer is no. This will be a pleasant surprise indeed!:goodvibes

The size is definitely smaller than the average American would expect. :) I wish I'd taken my camera with me, but we thought we were just going to a restaurant where we've been before, and I just didn't know! Probably a *small* pizza at another place.

Just realized I have a menu. There is a kid's meal deal (for 9 and under) with a 6" pizza, fountain drink, and "fresh baked cookie" for $7.

The kidlet is clamoring to go there today, though, so I might have more info!

The menu says they have "grab and go" items like pasta salad, fruit and yogurt parfait, garden salad, etc. They also have what they call "artisan" ice cream, and they have a float and a "hand made ice cream sandwich" (um, that sounds good).

And I've just figured out the theme; they've got the press that makes the dough flat, but they also have a newspaper theme, like "the press". So their specialty pizzas (which are $10 according to the menu I forgot I picked up) have names like The Herald and The Chronicle, etc.

How funny - I was planning on using my AA miles for my DL trip and I was wondering if it was worth the million transfers... sounds like it isn't :(

Saw the sign when we were there about 10 days ago and am so glad you got to visit and give us your critique. Sounds interesting. Is there a place to sit and all that? Any pics of the pizza pie?

:):):) Yum Yum Yum...
I love pizza...
We are staying at the FFI in October and I look forward to trying this new pizza place.
Thanks for all the info!

If you don't like it you always have Pizza hut Express at the FFI.

Did you happen to see if they are serving breakfast pizzas???

There's nothing on the menu about it. And their "hours" sign, at least two nights ago, only showed days, not actual *hours*. :)

As long as you know you're traveling on a day that "weather" won't mess everything up coast to coast, causing delays and cancelations all over the place and a big huge domino effect...it won't be a huge problem. :)

Now that I've had a bit of time, our travel wasn't that bad. What was bad was the problems swirling around me. Our second flight was actually canceled b/c they didn't have the crew there, which is probably because the crew was stuck on the east coast in whatever weather they were having. But the flight two hours later was given to us, and was fine, and ended up being better. Why? Because 1 hour in Portland and 4 hours in San Francisco is icky, but 2.5 hours in each of those airports is just enough to fill the time and get a *little* bored, without rushing (like the 1 hour) or wanting to pull your hair out (the 4 hours).

We simply could not have made this trip if we had needed to use more Miles, because we are conserving miles for a trip cross-country in Feb, so it was worth it, but stressful!

Also, DS has had sensitive ears in the past, requiring me to put EarPlanes in 30 minutes before starting descent, and that's annoying when you have three separate descents to deal with!

I didn't bring my camera-to-computer cord, so the one really bad picture I took will have to wait.

There are some tables inside, and about 3 tables outside.

Nice! Good info to have! My kids would love this!

Sorry to hear your traveling was stressful. Maybe that drinkie poo might have helped? ;)
