Bragging on Facebook

Why do I keep facebook if I hate those posts? Because I enjoy the rest of facebook. Most people use a little common sense. I only have a few people on my feed that do this, and I can't remove them because they are family. (although I am considering it after this last week) The rest, I hide.

Yes, I'm confused and annoyed by their posts. They are not keeping me informed about their lives with their "I'm miserable or I'm wonderfully happy" posts, because they never explain what they are about.

Exactly, same here! Old friends or acquaintances who irritate me can be removed. Relatives, however- it is not worth the extra drama and guilt I would hear about in real life :sad2:

I find some people irritating on FB too. There's one neighbor especially, who always posts about every wonderful time she or her kids are having, every wonderful thing her kids do (all of them are in accelerated math!) and she "checks in" from anywhere that you can "check in' from. She also complains about neighbors. The last is why I do not hide her; I have to watch for my name. :goodvibes

I also don't get telling your 6 year old, who doesn't Facebook, happy birthday I love you so much.

But most people who's statuses irritate me I just hide. I hide most teenage girls for example, who are the worst! I'd hide my own 12 ear old daughter if I could. :)

Oh the other hand, I love some people's statuses. There's the one who posts about whatever wild thing her 4 year old boy has done, sometimes with pictures (like Sharpie tattooing his whole self). Or the friend who finds fantastic quotes that I love. Or my stepson who posts the occasional amusing and very well worded pondering on his life. Spying on my kids, pictures, and these posters are why I do Facebook.

C'mon, what's wrong with statuses like: "Im boreddddddddddddd"?

:lmao:

My other exsil has a mental break down every couple of weeks.. she also goes from "in a relationship" to "single" whenever she has a fight with her boyfriend of almost 20 years.
You forgot "It's complicated" ;)

While we're at it, let me just add that I can. not. stand. the "Talking Fetus" app or whatever the heck it's called. Congratulations, but I do not care that your baby has eyelids, or that the baby's poop is forming. I love babies just as much as the next chick, but I really just want to see a pic once he or she is born, all cute and snuggly in a blankie.

PS - Please don't announce that you are 5 weeks pregnant to your 1200 Facebook friends. If I had a dollar for every miscarriage that gets announced on FB shortly after a thousand-and-one congratulations posts, I'd be typing on a much nicer computer. :surfweb:\
You can block all posts from the "Talking Fetus".

I have never waited to announce a pregnancy. A miscarriage is a sad possibility, but the highs and lows of life are what some people share on fb.

Well, they are usually more like this "I'm soooooooooooooooo boarrrrrrdddd!" :rotfl2:
:rotfl: My 12 yo dd doesn't fb yet but this reminds me of some of her friends' status.

I love this thread, but my question is this; What exactly do you want in a facebook post? Not too personal, not vague, not too nice, not too negative, not about your pregnancy, not about where you go, what you buy.... I just don't understand exactly what people expect in "the perfect facebook status" :confused3

ugh...my sister is like that...drives me nuts. I just ignore it.

Lol...I would totally put that on my facebook. :thumbsup2

Uh....no, if you're on the deck you are quickly posting from your smart phone and then putting it down to enjoy the wine! :thumbsup2

For me personally, the last thing I am thinking about or wanting to do is whip out my i phone or lap top or what ever type of electronic device that I amy use to tell everyone that I am relaxing on the deck with a glass of wine. THis is the stuff that makes me crazy about FB. Just go and relax and enjoy yourself, you don't need to let everyone know about it. If you really have to pick up your phone to post this, you are in need of some real therapy. A good 12 step program will help. lol

Eh, none of that stuff bothers me. If they are enjoying their life and want to share how happy they are then go for it. If you're a bit down sometimes it's nice to just vent about it. And if they want to view their life through rose colored glasses and it makes them feel good about their life, then all the more power to them.

Aren't these the same things we see here on the Dis? We see people vent all the time. So what if we use our real names or a fake one. How many people on these boards are braggarts? We all see it, all the time, whether it's a ticker in our signature, a trip report or just those great backhanded brags. You know the one that go;

"We just bought a new house, it's probably twice as big as our old one and just so hard to keep up with cleaning it, especially now that it's so nice out. All I want to do is lay on the deck of the inground pool. Oh and do you now where I can buy one of those great outdoor bar things? I want to get one but the only one I could find was $5,000 but it's too small."

I guess I just don't see what the big deal is. I suppose if it bothers you enough then get rid of your account or take them off the friends list. It always makes me chuckle on these threads, I guess I'm just too laid back for silly things like that to even be a blip on my radar.

You nailed it with that quote. :lmao:

Sounds like one of my neices

I did finally block the "Talking Fetus" one, but new ones keep coming out - I blocked a different one last week and now I have another that I know I saw last night. Just gotta catch it!

Here's the thing with the pregnancy announcements: I generally don't pay much attention to it beyond saying congrats, "liking" it, etc. There is one woman that I am friends with on FB (know her from working with her husband) that has announced 3 pregnancies all in the last year, and then three miscarriages. Very sad, but being more of an acquaintance with the woman, it made me (as well as others from work) uncomfortable. I did de-friend her at one time, and then I received another friend request about a month later. So now I ignore her posts. :guilty:

I can assure you that I don't need therapy. I'm pretty well-adjusted and if the worst thing I ever do is make silly Facebook posts, I think I'm in remarkably good shape. Amazingly, my friends and family do the same thing.

Hmmm... I guess if we decide to go the therapy route, we might get a good group discount

I broke my arm today and was facebooking while I was in the ER waiting for the doctor. Some of us love playing with our electronic devices....doesn't mean we need therapy.

I am so loving this post! :lmao:

i was thinking I was the only one with weirdo, wacko friends & family on FB!!

At the moment I have two friends(not connected) going thru a divorce and yep you guessed it playing it out on FB..:confused3...sweet Jesus, mary mother of god these peeps are telling stuff that nobody needs to know, its sad BUT strangly entertaining as just a year or so ago they were the ones who..."have the best life ever, I love my hubby, are kids are perfect"....yada, yada, yada day in and day out, so now :rolleyes1 There life isnt so great, there is NO love loss between them and there kids are heathens I guess!! :lmao::lmao:

I have fairly good friend and her and her hubby split up like 6 months ago and she NEVER cooked ever, take out everyday! (and hey I don't care if that's your thing and you can do it, knock yourself out)...anyway... so she started everyday "I'm cooking dinner and eating with my favorite 12yr old" I mean everyday, what she cooked and that they were eating together, how good it was, how they loved it, it was the best thing ever and they just love eating together! which I knew was a crock as the chick cant boil water :rotfl:

Finally I said under one of her many post after other friends told her how great it was and she is such a good mom..."Can u cook for me and i can come down, cause I cook for these guys every single day and its really not that exciting here"
she inboxed me and said "hey i didnt really cook just wanted my ex to see that" ah yeah, i'm guessing he didnt buy it either...:lmao:

Awww c'mon... I'm already checking into that group discount thing. You want in on it?? ;)

And ugh on the broken arm! Hope it heals quickly!!

I don't let the braggers get to me. It's the vague bookers and tweeters that just irritate me. In fact, just this week, I cut off a friendship because this person was taking shots at me on twitter. "funny how SOME PEOPLE blah blah blah. I call her on it and if course it's not me. It's someone else she's tweeting about. Never mind the timing and the context of the tweets. It's high school
and I'm not playing. These social networks make it too easy to do this passive aggressive stuff.

me too...I'm going on a cruise in 5 weeks!!! :

Yeah, but don't you see how waiting in the ER is COMPLETELY different than relaxing on your deck with a glass of wine? Really? I mean REALLY?

PS. Feel better and hope the arm heals quickly.

So what. If someone wants to do that then what's the big deal? Why would that even bother you? I just don't get it. Does it hurt you? Does it somehow impact your life? WHY do you care? REALLY?

Oh wow, that sucks that you broke your arm. I hope you feel better soon!!!!

Facebook is not like a Christmas newsletter. It's like a Christmas letter on STEROIDS!!!!!!

I do not do Facebook, but DSis does. She periodically calls to give me an alert when one bragalicious member of the family goes all Cousin Pearl/Hyacinth Bucket on Facebook. We have quite a time translating her fantasy posts into reality. Makes for good entertainment, but we cannot imagine who she thinks she's fooling.....

I love Hyacinth! Poor Richard. I can just imagine her on FB...

me too...I'm going on a cruise in 5 weeks!!! :

:flower3:

But... simply relaxing on the deck would be sooo boring to me. I'd be over in it 2 minutes. Nobody would think it strange if said person was relaxing on the deck and reading a book. Why is relaxing on the deck and playing on FB any different from that?

And I hope I'm not the only one who had to Google "Hyacinth Bucket"... ;)
