Has there ever been any really good character meals for boys? With all the star wars stuff, Indiana Jones, etc., at the Studios, you would think they would do something special. Anyone know if they have ever tried it? We are taking my soon to be 6 year old for his birthday this year, and wanted to do something special. Whether or not that is a character meal, doesn't matter. But we have been several times, so looking for something a bit different. He's not really into to Pooh characters, and Chef Mickey's would be Ok, but wish there was something really cool to do with him. Any ideas or suggestions?

Well, we just returned this weekend from a week at Disney, and we did 5 character meals with our son (he turned 13 on our trip :clown: ).

Hands down, his favourite was Ohanas character breakfast. The characters and the atmosphere were fun, fun, fun. Pluto was absolutely hilarious and had the entire restaurant in stitches. This meal was one of the highlights of our trip.

We also did Tusker House for breakfast, as well as Chef Mickeys, Crystal Palace and 1900 Park Fare for dinners. None were really "boy" exclusive but we had fun at each, and didn't feel out of place not having any girls (besides myself, of course) in our party.

Sci-Fi at DHS was also fun for our son. He loved eating in the cars and watching movies on the big screen. Our server also brought him a huge ice cream sundae with a candle in it ("on the house"), which was a big hit.

Hope this helps :goodvibes .

We're doing the Playhouse Disney character breakfast at HS while we're there. DS(3)'s favorite TV show is Little Einsteins and 2 of the characters there are Leo and June from the show. This is the ONLY character meal we are going to that he hasn't been told about (doing 6 character breakfasts in all).

But it would be nice if there was one that was more boy themed. On another thread someone suggested villains or pirates or even Pixar (more general).....

My boys LOVE the Garden Grill. The restaurant rotates during the meal to scenes from The Land boat ride. They thought it was so "cool" :cool2: The character interaction is really fantasic. They don't rush and played with the boys.

We had to dine there TWICE this past Nov. It was such a hit.

The villains meal has been gone for a few years now. There isn't a pixar or pirates meal either. I wish they would do more for boys but they are still trying to shove princesses down everyones throat. I have emailed them a few times on my opinion. I have one child and he is a boy. A very spoiled one at that. They are missing a huge market.

Anyway, the two I suggest are Donald's Breakfast Safari at Tusker House. This is just a great meal and a lot of fun. They even have a ceremony to wake up the sun. Like I said, fun. The other is Sci Fi. The movie clips are not scary. We saw a lot of tom and jerry cartoons running when we were there. DS and Nephew both loved this restaurant.

My boys loved when we went to dinner at Biergarten. They have a live band during dinner and they loved the music. There is a dance floor and we saw a few young boys dancing and enjoying themselves as well. Food is great too.

We did Crystal Palace, Chef Mickey's, Hollywood & Vine, 1900 Park Fare for character meals. Also did LTT but there are no longer characters there. My boys enjoyed all the character meals we went to but were shy around Cinderella & Prince Charming at 1900 Park Fare.

Whispering Canyon Cafe is also supposed to be pretty cool. We are trying that one next time, although it is not a character dining experience.

Yeah, this is actually something that really bothers me. My son knows we are going to a Princess breakfast, and I'm sure he will tolerate it, but his sister is very excited. If they had a Star Wars breakfast, he would be in heaven. I was trying to come up with something special for him, but he's already said he doesn't want to do the hair paint at Main Street Barber even though he knows she's planning to get glitter. Just not his thing. I feel like he's getting a bit jipped (sp?) and I haven't come up with anything to compensate.

Why not just choose some options that are within your budget and ask him what he would like to do.

I have seen this topic discussed so many times. I can't really think why the don't try it. I know they had villians meal a long time ago my my DS would have hated that (he finds villians scary). A pixar, or peter pan or something he would love. He gets very mad at the princess meals (has two sisters). It would be so much easier if I could tell him we would do a meal for him too. The only reason I can think they don't do it is that they worry boys would be hard to manage if all worked up? I dunno. It is really odd they don't do one.

I remember reading on here a CM saying that there was talk of a Toy Story character meal at one point, but I can't remember why it didn't pan out.

Whispering Canyons is fun for a boy. 50's Prime Time is always a blast-both of those do alot of joking around & acting goofy kind of stuff.

My nephew was 5 and we celebrated his 6th birthday at Chef Mickey's and it was far above OK. He absolutely loved Chef Mickey's. The characters, the noisy atmosphere, the monorail rolling above, the napkin waving, singing. My nephew even danced with Donald Duck. The birthday boy received a Mickey decorated cup cake and a laminated placemat signed by all the characters. He's eaten on that placemat at home for about a year after the trip.

As for Garden Grill there have been lots of reports of it not rotating(maintenance issues), so don't make that a major sell for booking that ADR. Also only dinner is a character meal there.

Cape May or the 'Ohana (Stich) breakfast meals might also be options to consider.

I so agree with the lack of boy specific character meals. They have so many princess character meals. My DS3&1/2 has not interest in the princesses whatsoever. And I'm sure a fairy character meal will be the next new one at Disney. My son would have A BIRD if they had a pirate character meal. Or Pixar characters like Toy Story or Monster's inc. He would LOVE IT!
Then again, its just like going to our local disney store. Two-thirds of the store is filled with princess and girls stuff. The boys have a little section with a few things.

My 16 yr olds still want to go back to Chef Mickey's, Biergartena, PT cafe and Hollywood & Vine!
They haven't been for 5 yrs and can't wait!

I have a DS 12, but when he was 6, he and DH tolerated a meal at the Castle for Mom. LOL The Princesses really gave him a lot of attention, it was a riot. He asked us why Prince Charming smiled the way he did, and replicated it. I was crying I was laughing so much. He ended up having a great time, along with DH and I.

Do they still have the Pirate Cruises out of the GF?? DS had a great time on that when he was younger.

Those cruises also leave from the Caribbean Beach Resort as well. Those generally require a reservation and cost in the neighborhood north of $30.

:laundy: :laundy: (Ok, my five year old helped me with that.) A lot of good discussion. My son actually really like the princess meals when he was younger. Plus, he would get a lot of attention because he is our only child, and not many people just bring their boys to a princess meal! However, I think we are past that stage. I agree they are missing a huge market. Imagine a Star Wars meal....do you know how many "BIG KIDS" they would have clammering to get an ADR?! Look at the crowds at Star Wars weekends! Still not sure what we will do. Tried the pirate cruise once, but he wouldn't go on it at the last minute. Anything at Universal that doesn't require a ticket?

My 5 boys always loved Chef Mickey's when they were little. And still do now and they are 25 to 16. :worship:

What about the new T-Rex cafe? We saw it last week. We didn't eat there but it looked pretty neat from the outside.
