Boxing up Food

I have hypoglycemia/pre-diabetes, so I have to eat every few hours to keep my blood sugar balanced. If I had a tasty dinner in which there are leftovers, I have no problem with taking a food box with me. I already paid for the meal, so I'll have it later, back in the room, instead of buying something else. If there are no leftovers, I end up having to buy something to make sure I have something to eat later.

I attend a lot of seminars & workshops cross country. Some of them include a meal plan. Even if it is included to take a free shuttle bus from the airport and stay on-site at the event and never leave, I purposely rent a car, for the reason that I need to be able to go get food when my blood sugar drops too low. If that means the supermarket at 10:30 pm, 3 miles away or a Denny's or Mcdonald's, then that's where I need to go. I need to eat a balanced meal, not a protein bar, as the next meal won't be till breakfast, 8 - 10 hours away. I can't depend on if these meal plans will provide enough and the proper foods I need to eat at dinner, let alone to take some back for later.

I can't have a dinner on a meal plan at 6pm and the next scheduled meal is 8am, the next morning. Not going to happen! I'd be in a coma before 8am.

I know this will stir a few pots.

My pet hate in restaurants is at the end of the meal, we are always asked if we want boxes for food.
I have never taken food home from a restaurant (except Pizza Hut). I think it is awful to see people walk around with boxes of food in the parks.

My question is:

What do people do with the food? If you are on Disney property and not in a 1 or 2 bed villa, where are you keeping it? Do you take it to the food court the next day to reheat.

I would love restaurants on Disney property to stop this. I know some people will attack me on this point. Maybe I just need educated.

Well, maybe if they are on the dining plan they get the dessert to go so they can eat it later. :confused3

In 40 visits to Disney, I have never noticed what others were carrying around the parks. I would have no idea if they were carrying leftovers or not.

I was going to say the same thing. I don't think I actually spend any time at all seeing what anyone else is doing or carrying around, lol.

I haven't read all the replies (sorry) but why do you care? Some people don't want to stuff themselves at dinner, so they take the leftovers. Maybe they have a midnight snack or eat them cold for breakfast the next day. Maybe they throw them away as soon as they return to their hotel. Who cares? It's their food, they paid for it.

If you paid for it, it's okay to take the leftovers. This is from a person who usually forgets about them and then throws them out tho. lol

I always take my leftovers home from restaurants (I try to never eat the whole HUGE portions) and I eat it the next day.

I've never taken leftovers at Disney World, but then again, we do counter service, not table service. I probably wouldn't want to be bothered carrying it, and having to worry about refrigerating it, etc. However, I might order some desert or a to-go order of something that didn't need to be refrigerated for later (for example, I could see ordering a sandwich to go shortly before leaving the park for the day).

We seldom take anything from our meals to-go because there aren't a lot of desserts worth boxing up (oh how I miss Kona's macadamia nut torte, what a lovely breakfast that made!) and the sorts of main courses I prefer don't lend themselves to being any good as leftovers, but we end up carrying food out of the parks most nights. With all the snacks we get on the deluxe plan and the fact that we rarely stop for real breakfasts, we've gotten into the habit of picking up pastries in the park at the end of the night to have for a quick bite on the way to the bus the next morning.

I didn't read all the replies either, but personally I hate seeing food go to waste. I almost always take leftovers home because if it was good enough for me to eat once then I could do it again. :lmao:And, if not, I have one large dog and a whole bunch of chickens that will finish it off.

Of course, if this is referring only to vacation then it depends on how hard it is to carry it around. Plus, I very rarely have leftovers on vacation. I eat it all!
