I have hypoglycemia/pre-diabetes, so I have to eat every few hours to keep my blood sugar balanced. If I had a tasty dinner in which there are leftovers, I have no problem with taking a food box with me. I already paid for the meal, so I'll have it later, back in the room, instead of buying something else. If there are no leftovers, I end up having to buy something to make sure I have something to eat later.
I attend a lot of seminars & workshops cross country. Some of them include a meal plan. Even if it is included to take a free shuttle bus from the airport and stay on-site at the event and never leave, I purposely rent a car, for the reason that I need to be able to go get food when my blood sugar drops too low. If that means the supermarket at 10:30 pm, 3 miles away or a Denny's or Mcdonald's, then that's where I need to go. I need to eat a balanced meal, not a protein bar, as the next meal won't be till breakfast, 8 - 10 hours away. I can't depend on if these meal plans will provide enough and the proper foods I need to eat at dinner, let alone to take some back for later.
I can't have a dinner on a meal plan at 6pm and the next scheduled meal is 8am, the next morning. Not going to happen! I'd be in a coma before 8am.

And, if not, I have one large dog and a whole bunch of chickens that will finish it off.
