I heard they where building a bowling alley at the sport complex does anybody know if this is true:confused3

This is a rumor that was written on the Jim Hill blog ... (Jim Hill Media)

Not sure if its true - Jim's track record has been rather hit and miss lately.

Given that we heard a separate rumor that this was going in DTD earlier this year.. at least we know that some folks have been talking about it.

Historically, ABC-TV covers more professional bowling tournaments than any other TV Network and that would ostensibly be the reason for adding such a business to Disney World.

It would make sense for them to start adding things at Wide World of Sports that would encourage regular tourists to go there.. because right now -- there is precious little there for Joe & Jane Tourist.

Jim Hill's track record is pretty horrible. I can't believe people still even consider him to be anything near credible.

Well, you know what this say about rumors.

However, I have good information that this rumor is true. Disney has been talking about this for well over a year and it looks as though they will begin construction on this facility within the year.

I can't divulge my sources or they won't give me any more info.;)

Originally this rumor started as construction at Pleasure Island.. and seemed to be more credible with the location changing to WWoS ...

Be interesting to see which turns out to be true! My money is (and has been) on WWoS.

OMG FINALLY! I love to bowl and when I was a CP, that was noticeably absent in the things to do at WDW. It's about time!

When I was a CP, we went to this dodgy little place on OBT. Not exactly tourist friendly.

Hey just wanted to say hi to another fellow Mainer!!! Hope you have a GREAT vacation!!!! :thumbsup2

Somehow bowling seems kind of un-Disney like, but I guess if they can have carnival rides in Animal Kingdom, why not?:confused3

Funny how my family was just dicussing this over our spring break vac. to the World.
We were staying at Pop, at thought of how apporpriate one would have been there!
But just a bowling alley, in general, would be great to have in WDW! I'm sure they could make it very Disney-fied, and do an awesome job with it!
Here's to hoping it happens!:thumbsup2

Why, exactly, is bowling "un-Disney" like?

This would make sense. The rumor is that the USBC's 2010 National Tournament is going to be in Orlando, so if they built a large bowling facility at WWoS, they could get into the rotation with Reno, Las Vegas, and other sites. Plus, they could have a PBA event, which as someone already pointed out, is televised on ESPN now.

When I first read the title, the first thing I thought was Geeze, who the heck would BOWL at Disney?? (Ok, forgive me, but I'm from the Midwest, when I go to Florida, the last thing I think of doing is any indoor activity...)

You all surprised me, and proved me wrong...you really would bowl at Disney! (?!)

Maybe the pins will be shaped like characters.

i LOVEEEEE bowling and so does my family! that would be a great idea to add it.. make them buttloads of money too... wish it would happen by sept :wizard:

I would go bowling! I live in Atlanta and can't get near a bowling alley without tripping over the leaguers and paying $15.00 per game. By golly, if I'm gonna pay $15.00 per game of bowling, I wanna do it at Disney! :thumbsup2

You know, I'm actually kind of surprised there ISN'T bowling Now that I think of it.

Even if they didn't do their own, a Lucky Strike or other upscale lane would clean up there. Maybe convert Atlantic dance, or as part of the NEW PI that is rumored. It would make the most sense at DTD of course. Since they are looking for third party places, that would seem like a good choice.
