What happens to borrowed points if they are no longer needed after a waitlist comes through??

TIA

If the borrowed points come out of the reservation they will remain in your account as borrowed points and must be used by the end of the use year. The issue is whether borrowed points will in fact be leftover if reservaitons are switched. If in the the current reservation you have both borrowed and current use year points and a wait list for a new reservation comes through for fewer points than the total you are already using, then they will use for the new reservation first the borroed points and then the current points, so you may end up with just excess current points unless the new reservation requires fewer than all the borrowed points in the existing reservation.

What if they are all borrowed points? Dec UY and might be visiting for long weekend in early Nov for food and wine. If the waitlist came thru would i have to use the borrowed points that are no longer needed by the end of November still or would i have the 60 window as with normal cancelled points?

If the reservation used all borrowed points and the new reservation uses less points, the excess points would be returned to the UY in which the reservation was to take place and they will expire at the end of that UY if unused.

The 60 day booking window only applies to points in holding which happens when you modify/cancel a reservation 30 days or less from check-in. Those holding points can only be used for a new reservation booked no more than 60 days prior to check-in.

if you borrow dec 2014 UY pts into your 2013 UY for a nov 2014 stay, all borrowed pts must remain in the 2013 UY. that means you must use them for a stay that is completed by nov 30, 2014 or they disappear into the void.

if you cancel more than 30 days ahead of time, they do not become "holding pts" subject to a 60 day booking limitation but the expiration date will remain a problem.

this is why we try to encourage people to avoid traveling at the end of their UY if they can help it...it can create problems if you need to cancel.
