Born Again Christians Thread-No Bashing please

I missed the weekly worship question. We have three worship services on the weekend. Saturday night at 6, Sunday morning at 8:30 and 10:45. These are all the same. We have a different worship service on Wednesday nights at 6:45.

We had a great service yesterday! The pastor's message was titled "The Way It Is" He used several different passages of scriptures but the main message was that as believers when we feel the Holy Spirit burdening us or impressing upon us to do something......that the more we refuse that prompting.....the harder it becomes to hear.

He had five men come up and used them as a visual one was the person "Ken"
to the left of "Ken" we have the "old man, sinful nature, etc." Then we have "Jesus" who came and "Ken" accepted Him as his Savior which added to the right of "Ken" the "new man who wants to please God" along with "The Holy Spirit" that leads and directs the "new man" and how the "old man" is always trying to pull "Ken" in the direction of the flesh but since "Ken" has Jesus, the "new Man and the Holy Spirit" are there to reach Ken through his conscience and his heart about what is right and what is wrong. Now if "Ken chooses to listen to the old man.......he will become less and less atune to the prompting of the Holy Spirit and it will be increasingly easy to follow the flesh.

The message was pretty much about how we need to always be working on our relationship with God and listening to Him. It was a very good message!

We had an early 5:00 service and some of us went to Finley Stadium to see some of our teens who have a Christian band "Set In Stone" play for the opening ceremonies of the Girls Fast Pitch World Series that is in Chattanooga this week. Wow! There are lots of people here from Indiana, Missouri, Maryland, all over the U.S. and Canada. The guys got to play about 6 songs that they have written and recorded and got to share the testimony.

Wow! A lot to respond to today. Acrucifier I appreciate your apology and unlike some others I think it did need to be said here on the thread as there are many reading who are not necessarily posting and they need to be able to see it too. It took courage to come back and post your apology. Thank you.
However, if you want a total BAC thread, you are going to have to put it on a different message board. No way would (or should IMO) the DIS allow that. I have really enjoyed all of the discussion from all sides, though some of it was hard to hear and my first reaction on a few posts was to take offense, I will admit.

Luvthatduke--that story brought a lump to my throat. Thanks for sharing that story!

Aidensmom--I am shocked at this woman not opening the building for you. I could see if the city was giving you the space, but as far as I understand it ANY group should be able to RENT it! That is downright discrimination. I will pray for your church for sure. But wow! What a testimony to the power of God that another space was found for your worship on Sunday.

All--I just wanted to say how much I appreciate all the thoughts and sharing about sin, backsliding, forgiveness and redemption. This has really been an area of growth this week for me reading all of these responses. Thank you to all of you who have shared your stories and understanding. I have learned and come to understand a lot!

LukenDC, I can’t speak for others, but I don’t put any stock in the DaVinci Code (other than as a fictional book to be read for entertainment purposes). As believers, we rely on the Bible to give us an understanding of the life of Christ. There are actually several books out there right now that discuss some of the author’s points and references. Let’s just say that, like any fictional novel, not all of the things in the book can be proven true, especially with regards to the claims of Christ being married.

I agree with you, Ead, that the Da Vinci Code is a work of fiction and to be used as entertainment. But I noticed that Christian authors and publishers issued several rebuttals to the book, which demosntrates that some people are taking it seriously or are concerned about how others may view the book. As for the claim that Christ was married and had a family, that has been discussed for decades. I remember mentioning it to my Sunday School teacher in 1982.

fwiw, aidensmom, i hope your church finds a more permanent place to meet. i agree with you that the woman was wrong not to open the doors for your group.

You’re quite right about the concern among the Christian community that people believe the book is absolute fact. You’re also right that these ideas have been discussed for a long time and are nothing new. I think there’s just a general concern that many people know so little about Christ that they will believe anything they hear/read. Of course, not everyone will choose to accept the Bible’s account of Christ’s life, but I find it rather odd that some people (a minority, I think) have no trouble at all with accepting the DaVinci Code as absolute fact. It takes faith either way, IMHO.

As several people had mentioned, including myself, that an apology should be made to JennyMomInRI, she wanted us to know that she had indeed been apologized to, and very nicely at that. She also said she promised not to post anymore on this thread, though acrucifer has told her she is welcome to, as she wants to respect the intent of the thread to be more of a Christian discussion. (I will miss her input though, sometimes it helps me to understand some things better when I hear the Jewish perspective.)

Aw, that's too bad! Jenny, just know that if you feel like posting you are welcome here. I like hearing a Jewish perspective personally! I am sorry that you weren't made to feel welcome to begin with but hopefully that has all been resolved and you will feel you can come back if you want to.

Wow. The thought to leave this thread based Acrucifier's comment had occured to me as well. But I've been enjoying it for the most part so not sure if I will for the moment.

Rick--don't leave. I think that all of your comments have been very well expressed and not attacking in anyway. As were Jenny's and Jenny if you are still reading, I learned quite a bit of information from your posts as well and would be glad to hear from you again. We can all grow and learn from reading other peoples experiences and opinions. I think everyone especially in the last several (several) pages is simply sharing their thoughts and knowledge to gain a deeper understanding of faith and each other and that has to be a good thing when you consider the manner in which it has been done. (Polite and open, not blaming and accusatory.)

I agree--don't leave, Rick! I have mentioned this before but I'll say it again: I love reading your posts! Stick around and ignore anyone that makes you feel less than welcome is my advice for the day! Okay, I guess I need to get off of here and feed Princess Kylie and then go pick up her pictures! Have a great day everyone!!! :sunny:

To Jenny, Rick and others:
Please do not go away. Do not let one person dictate the tone of the thread. I know that I am not alone when I say that we enjoy your input, your thoughts, your feelings and your knowledge. You gals and guys add a lot to this thread. :goodvibes

Wow--don't read the thread for a bit and I miss all the action!!!

I enjoy reading this thread .... when I read it .... nobody go anywhere!!!

:)

Asked my 2 yo DD yesterday what they sang in Sunday school she said, "J-E-S-U-S - JESUS, He's the king of me, He's the king of me!

:goodvibes

To answer a quick question, to be honest, it is correct that I did not fully read and digest the post that may have made insinuations about God/Christ and homsexuality... I'm just tooooo busy! And, to be completely honest, even if I had, I would have probably refrained from becoming upset and jumping to negative judgements.....

I mean, hey, there have been all kinds of comments here! So, when I see that somebody is commenting on something completely inane and nosensical, like God having a physical gender... I tend to just :rolleyes2 and keep reading!!! :sunny:

And, if sexuality is the big touch-point here, I suggest that we just put that subject to an end, right here!!!!

Goodness gracious folks... I mean, if we keep on and on talking about sexuality as a sin, it would be never ending!!! And, it would completely hijack this thread, or ANY thread!!!!

I mean, if we are talking about sexuality as a sin here, we honestly have everything, running the gamut, from those who are all "Share all the brotherly love you can", to the Holy Rollers who think that even thinking on the subject, except for when with your spouse, is a sin.... (But, what others don't know doesn't count!!! ;) LOL!!!) And, hey, what about the age old debate, is what Clinton did 'sex'.... And, heck fire, there are those who think that sex is not a sin, but is a duty, called for only when attempting to procreate... (Well, I can't have any more children, so my sex live is shot to hell!!!! :rotfl2: )

Okay, back to your regularly scheduled thread...

Our associate pastor & his family are getting ready to start debutation as missionaries and they are going on a 3 week missions trip to visit another couple from our church who are on the field in Guam.......they get to stop in Hawaii.......now why didn't I hear about this kind of a missions trip???? :rotfl:

New Question......

What one person (human please) has made the greatest impact on your spiritual walk? and why?

I'll go first.......Mine would be Bro. Mike, he was the pastor at the small church we first attended back in 1992/93. He was a great teacher of the scripture......didn't really seem you were being preached at but you were being taught the truth of God's word, could listen to him teach all day. Even through some very bad things that the church did to him, he never lost his witness or his testimony. He encouraged us to stay there until we felt directed differently by the Lord and not to leave that church on his account. He and his family are still very dear friends and even though he isn't our pastor any more......we still try to remember them on Pastor Appreciation Day. The influence they had on our life was a tremendous turning point for us and I will be forever grateful for their sacrifice to do the Lord's work.

My pastor has had the greatest influence on life and spitiual growth. I have attended the same church for 24 years. He does in depth messages with scriptural references. We read and take notes each week. We have just finished a three month study of the book of Judges and I will never see it the same way again. He makes the word come alive! He is also a good role model because he walks the walk and doesn't just talk it!

I would have to say my Dad, because even when he was sick and dying he never blamed God and was always strong in his beliefs. He felt he needed to be the good example of the family leader as described in the Bible. In fact he worked until about three months before he died because providing for his family was so important to him.

A friend of the family sang this at his funeral (I picked it out). It took me over 10 years before I could listen to it again.

Thy word is a lamp unto my feet
And a light unto my path.
Thy word is a lamp unto my feet
And a light unto my path.

When I feel afraid,
And think I’ve lost my way.
Still, you’re there right beside me.
Nothing will I fear
As long as you are near;
Please be near me to the end.

Thy word is a lamp unto my feet
And a light unto my path.
Thy word is a lamp unto my feet
And a light unto my path.

I will not forget
Your love for me and yet,
My heart forever is wandering.
Jesus by my guide,
And hold me to your side,
And I will love you to the end.

Nothing will I fear
As long as you are near;
Please be near me to the end.

Thy word is a lamp unto my feet
And a light unto my path.
Thy word is a lamp unto my feet
And a light unto my path.
And a light unto my path.
You’re the light unto my path.

I agree those posts were bait,
however I don't think Jenny (MominRI)
was baiting anyone (not sure if you think that, also?).

agreed, I should have listened more to jenny, I would have learned something, perhaps how to be a better christian. but I am a work in progress, far from finished, (hey, I will never be finished).
