Just out of curiousity--why do a lot of larger churches not have a Sunday night service? I am seeing a trend in SBC not having Sunday night services as much as they used to.
My SBC is small (about 250). We do have Sunday night services and Wednesday night services (Bible Study, prayer meeting, GAs, RAs etc.)
A lot of churches here have "cell" groups who meet at people's homes throughout the week. This is a growing trend.

Hey Buckalew11......I just noticed that you are in East Tennessee.....we are right outside Chattanooga TN. Howdy neighbor!!!!

acrucifer - I agree it took courage to admit that you were wrong, and I am sure all here will forgive you. I agree with luvthatduke though, I hope a personal apology was extended to JennyMomInRI.

About the thread, I think it has been great the way it has been going. There has been no bashing or disrespect. I think it is wonderful that other's want to ask questions, and that we can discuss some topics amongst ourselves. I agree with Wishing on a star:

I have enjoyed this thread BECAUSE of the different viewpoints! While there have definately been different viewpoints, there really hasn't been any strong anti-Christian comments.

You know, even as a Born Again Christian, with the knowledge and certainty that God has given me.... I realize that, perhaps because of this certainty and faith, I have not really questioned my faith. There have been a few comments on this thread, and the other threads, that have caused me to 'think'.... and, you know what... They have completely SOLIDIFIED my faith!!! they have caused me to see where any other path would fall very far short of being born again in Christ!!!! If the bottom line is to commune with GOD, and to follow his will on a very personal level, and to desire to spend eternity worshiping him in his loving arms, then I know that I am in the right place!

And, even with the Christian groups, there have been some questions and disagreements... And, mature born again Christians have had a great chance to try to witness to weaker Christians about deeper truths.

This thread would be just SOOOO shallow if we all just shared our favorite Christian books and songs and communed in just how wonderful of Christians we all are!!!!

I am so glad that this thread has taken the paths that it has! :goodvibes

you may have missed a few posts suggesting the Christ was gay. I find those comments anti christian and blasphemous. while some may not agree with me that is how recieve those comments. now, clearly the poster was trying to bait me (I think).

Sweetie...just a thought. If it is about your good works and what you have done and what you are doing, doesn't it take the focus off of Jesus and place it on you instead? Just something to think about.

Also, if a person has truly accepted Jesus and has a truly *repentful heart, they will not be rotten and have desires to follow after the flesh, but instead after the spirit.

*Repent does not mean to ask forgiveness as many churches teach, but in the original languages (Greek & Hebrew) it means to have a change of mind/change of heart and turn from your wicked ways.

Ummmm... no, what I do is not about me, what I've done and what I am doing. To say so is pretty insulting. I do what I do and do so because it's work that needs to be done, simple as that. Although I'm not in any way, shape or form trying to cause a debate, but the same can be said for anyone who witnesses, especially when the person being spoken to isn't interested in hearing what you have to say. My job isn't just a job or a career, it's one that I chose very carefully after having worked in the business world for more than 12 years. My salary is now 50% less and the time I spend at work or in a work related effort is at least 50% more.

Admittedly, there are plenty of people who are in the non-profit world that do what they because it's a job or just a paycheck. There are others that do it (HATE using this term but here goes), it's their calling.

perhaps I should create a born again bible study thread that could be only for born again christians and those interested in becoming christians.

I think that would be pretty neat, but wouldn't it be more suitable on a BAC site and not a Disney one?

I agree those posts were bait,
however I don't think Jenny (MominRI)
was baiting anyone (not sure if you think that, also?).

RickinNYC,

I would like your opinion in regards to some coworkers, would you be offended if I PM'd you with a couple of questions?

I am going to be perfectly blunt, as that is the type of person I am. You cannot segregate threads on the DIS. Anyone is free to post to any thread. And the more you try to create a niche, the more it will draw other people. It's great that as Christians that we can get together and discuss things, but it is also great to get input from others as well. As much as there are those who feel we need to seperate ourselves from the rest of the world, we still need to live in that world. What good is it to just shine our light among ourselves?

And acrucifer, thank you for your apology, but we aren't the ones you need to apologize to.

Asolutely not offended at all! Takes a lot to offend the likes of me. PM away!

::yes::

Jenny was simply sharing what she believes. As I have said before, I really enjoy her input.

One more post...A praise report.

DH and I were going through a very rough time. With God's help, we seem to have gotten past the problem and are on very strong ground once again. :goodvibes

I was the one who made the post regarding Christ and homosexuality. My point was, if you discovered that Christ was gay, would it change the way you feel about him? Would it change his affect on the world? I was not trying to bait you or anyone else.

I have no opinion regarding Christ's sexuality. However, with the Da Vinci Code book and movie, Christians will increasingly hear questions about Christ and sexuality. Be prepared to answer them in an honest way.

As for me, I regard homosexuality as neither anti-Christian nor blasphemous. I do not think that the people on this board are so fragile that they cannot handle controversial questions. As I posted earlier, participating in the discussions on this board has been an educational experience for me and one that I appreciate. It has shattered some stereotypes about Born Again Christians.

Okay, first thanks for apologizing. I can accept it but then I am not really the one that you should be apologizing too if you know what I mean. Second, I have to disagree with what you quoted above. As far as I can tell you are the only one that has a problem with different viewpoints and discussion. I don't see them bringing this thread down but only enhancing it. No offense, but this thread was actually pretty dull until other viewpoints, questions, discussion were brought into it. You could start another thread but honestly if you restrict it to the way you want it I don't see it getting too many people interested in subscribing to it and I don't think it will last nearly as long as this one. This one seems to be thriving well and I think it will outdo any other you will start that has all of the restictions which you wish to place upon it. Not trying to sound harsh or anything. Just stating my opinion. In any case, welcome back and please try to remain civil even if this thread did not go as you had maybe planned. :)

I also want to add (sorry, long winded) that God really blessed me
and my family today. We went to a family amusement park we enjoy
and we missed church today because of it. I told God as we were
walking that I was worshiping Him in my heart, and thanked Him for
a wonderful day with my DM, DH and DS, and the weather had finally
broken away from the horrible humidity we'd been having.
As we left, there was a pavilion with a family reunion,
and a small group (about 15 or so) was gathered around one
table, and a man was leading them in worship!
They had just started singing the wonderful praise song that was posted
a while back, "The Heart of Worship"
and we walked quietly around to the other side of the pavilion
to softly sing along and worship with our "unkown" brothers and sisters.
It was awesome! There we were, a small group of believers,
praising Jesus together. One by one the group noticed us
and pointed us out to the worship leader,
we exchanged smiles with some of the group,
and when we had finished several choruses of the song
he led them/us in a prayer of praise.
We had to leave, so before they felt obliged to invite us
under the roof, I said, "Thanks for the worship! God bless."
It was really neat - God knew I wanted to worship Him
and He provided a way before the end of our day that
only He could, and so not just me but my DM, DH and even DS
were able to worship together - at an amusement park *smile*.
Yeah, that is really neat! I have to say I have never seen anything like that at an amusement park before! That is something that I would have enjoyed too.

Yes, they may have been trying to bait you...I don't really know. But why not just ignore comments like those and not let them get to you? Just wondering. If something makes me mad or upset on the CB, I have learned to ignore it, although it isn't always easy, I admit. That's usually the best thing to do and then you won't have to worry about needing to apologize. Just a thought.

To even bring up the possibility that Christ was gay is blasphemous and nonsensical. There are usually other threads to discuss gay topics. To bring it up here could lead to the hi-jacking of thread - whether intentional or not.

Well, it looks like the thread has gotten back on topic. Praise God!

Nice post by Tasha+Scott. :sunny:

As far as weekly worship services go, here’s what our church does (it’s kind of complicated because we have outgrown the main sanctuary, so space is tight). It’s a large Southern Baptist church with about 7,000 members.

Sunday mornings we have worship services at 8:30, 9:50, 10:00, 11:20 and 11:30 am. The ones at 8:30, 10:00 and 11:30 are all held in the main sanctuary with the first two being more traditional and the last one being more contemporary in style. The 9:50 and 11:20 services are held in our activity center and are both contemporary. Our head pastor preaches via video screen in all the services, but the music portion is different for each service. The traditional services have a choir, and the contemporary services have a praise team.

We don’t have Sunday evening services, but we do have services on Wednesday evenings. Many other activities also take place on Wednesday evenings (things like choir practices, youth meetings, and AWANAS).

To bring it up here could lead to the hi-jacking of thread - whether intentional or not.

threads evolve naturally based on posts. i do not think what lukendc posted was hijacking. hijacking is when you take the thread completely off topic. whether you agree with what he posted or not, it was on topic.

LukenDC, I can’t speak for others, but I don’t put any stock in the DaVinci Code (other than as a fictional book to be read for entertainment purposes). As believers, we rely on the Bible to give us an understanding of the life of Christ. There are actually several books out there right now that discuss some of the author’s points and references. Let’s just say that, like any fictional novel, not all of the things in the book can be proven true, especially with regards to the claims of Christ being married.
