Booking through Orbitz

I've missed a connecting flight with AA that I booked through Expedia. It was a short connection and the first flight was late leaving. When I arrived at the airport the airline had already arranged a new boarding pass for a later flight. It was super stressful while I was on the first flight since I knew there was no way I was going to make it but it ended up working out and I didn't even need to contact Expedia.

A related maybe overly simple question. Does it take some time before MDE recognizes the Orbitz confirmation number? I have a hotel confirmation from Orbitz that is a 10 character mix of numbers and upper and lower case letters. I assume that's the Disney confirmation, but MDE isn't recognizing it. Made the reservation yesterday afternoon (about 16 hours ago), and one of the early posters said they could immediately link to MDE.

I think Orbitz may have changed their confirmation # structure. When I booked about a month ago, I go an email from Orbitz with their number and then the number to use when contacting the resort. I think you may have to call or chat with Orbitz now to get the Disney #.

Thanks. The reservation looks different than my experience about a year ago, and there wasn't a hotel confirmation number in the email, just online.
So, does a confirmation in this format look like it should work on MDE (anonymized of course) with the ones representing numbers and the x's capital or lowercase letters:
111XXXxx1X

When I booked last month, my confirmation email had 2 numbers:

1. Orbitz Booking Number: 5 letters followed by 10 digits (PBORB-123-456-7890)
2. Hotel Confirmation Number: 6 capital letters (ABCDEF)

Number 2 above (6 capital letters) is what I put into MDE and it accepted it. I had to do the online chat to add my kids and she also provided me with the Disney confirmation number, however, the reservation itself was already linked via the 6 capital letters. I tried entering that number into MDE as well, just to see, and it told me it was already linked to my account (I guess it was the same, for their purposes, as the 6 capital letters). When I look at my reservation in MDE, it just shows the 6 capital letters.

It looks like the format of Orbitz's website has changed a little since then (for example, adding the promo code at checkout), so it's possible that their confirmation numbers are now different as well, but the above was my experience just a month ago.

When booking a room with Orbitz, is it possible to get the extra % off on 2 rooms at a time? For some reason, when I put in 2 rooms, it only gives me the percentage off the first room. Should I just do it twice? That makes me nervous regarding linking them to MDE.

Oh, hello again, bcbmommy - I just replied to your reply over on another thread!

When I booked thorugh Orbitz about month ago, I did reserve 2 rooms on the same session, and did get the %off both (in this case was just less than the $150 cap per room; note they do add tax and a booking fee that you kind of have to calculate based on known tax rates - it is not specifically itemized though the description says they include a fee). Even though I booked in same session, they turned out with 2 separate reservation numbers so I needed to add to MDE separately anyway. My reservation numbers were as Music City Mama describes above. They did want the name of one person in the second room, and the reservations are listed in that person's name, not mine (though all in my Orbitz account, under same "Trip").

They do appear to have changed their site and even policies (now apparently with $25 cancellation fee per room, at least when I look at my same dates now, room only).

I did Orbitz online Chat to request connecting rooms, they had me wait while they called Disney. I plan to make a follow-up call to Disney to be sure it is recorded on their side. In this case that was easy since I had both on the same reservation, unsure if would be any problem if more separated. If you have both in your account, it seems like would be possible (this part is a guess!).

To finish the question about linking to MDE I was able to get a 9 digit number (numbers only) from Orbitz that resolved the problem and allowed me to link. It seems obvious that this should appear in the reservation, but ....
I see the $25 cancellation fee in my confirmation. That's particularly annoying, because when I was reserving there was definitely language about no cost cancellations that doesn't seem to have transferred over to the actual reservation fine print.

What is MDE? Also, has anyone had a layover as short as 46 minutes? Safe? too short?
I don't make layovers as short as just 46 minutes on the way to my vacation, but would accept a short layover if I'm on my way home. I like to have an hour and a half or even better, 2 hours, if I am on the way to my vacation resort. If I get to my layover soon enough to switch to the earlier flight I will try and get on the earlier flight and most often I can, at no cost. Of course this only works because I never check any bags.

Maybe a silly question but if you book your room for on-site resort outside of using Disney's website do you miss out on the magic bands being included (at least currently)? If you still get them included is there any issues with customizing as far as putting people's names on each of them and picking the colors?

Nope.

Nope.

You get ALL the same perks as someone who books directly through Disney.

To elaborate - once the reservation appears in MDE you have access to magic bands and all other functions. Just make sure you edit the shipping address because it defaults to an Orbitz address

That's good to hear would love to save any money that I can.

Thanks for answering my posts (on this one and the other one on the other post) appreciate your knowledge :)

I've grown to love booking the Disney properties via Orbitz. If nothing else, each stay I earn orbucks (or whatever they are called) and I can take them off my next stay.
I had enough to take PoP down from 120 a night down to 89 a night :)
