Booking reservations

I am waiting for my closing papers to come back so I'm in line to be in the "Club." What I was wondering is, reading the posts here about deciding where you want to buy due to the 11/7/month windows, how easy is it to book at shorter notices at say OKW? In the past our vacations have normally been spur of the moment trips, 1-3 weeks booking, and normally have been mini vacations, weekends and long weekends. For instance I have a $$$ trip planned at OKW for Labor Day weekend, Fri-Mon, 3 nights. I booked it last week and that would probably be the longest out trip weve ever planned. Some years I would probably like to try other resorts but from seeing it twice riding through on the way to Olivias and reading the posts here, I would probably stay there most of the time. I've made reservations twice in the past at 3PM for that night at WL and 1 week ahead for a 1 BR at VWL. How well does this fit in to booking with DVC? Thanks

At 7 months out OKW tends to be easier to get than others at WDW as it has more rooms. Last second reservations (30 days or less out) that you are used to tend to be far more difficult to get anywhere. Holidays and many prime DVC demand seasons (like early Dec) will virtually be impossible. Fri and Sat nights, with their higher point costs, are easier to get with late ressies than Sun through Thurs.

As long as you can be flexible with your trips and don't want to go during holiday or high demand periods (like drusba has said), you may be OK. IMHO DVC works best for those who can plan in advance using the 11 month window. But if you can for example go two weeks from now, instead of three when you really wanted to go and are willing to accept any resort that may have availability, then it may work for you. On the other hand there have been posts from people on these boards who were very disappointed when they couldn't get a reservation on shorter notice.

I'm flexible as to where, I'm just limited to every other weekend since we get rid of the kids every other one. We make many trips to Orlando just the two of us to "get away" even if we dont go to a park so its not so much a holiday thing, it's more "lets get outta town, MARGARITAVILLE!!!" This will be the second Labor day we've been but I understand its a lower season so didnt know if Labor Day was easier? We are actually even considering going down this coming weekend. Thats the kind of notice we have.
