Booking Question and Changing Question

Hi.
I have September U/Y SSR points.
If I make a ressie now for end of August and need to change my plans, what happens to my points? I would know if plans needed to be changed prior to April if that helps.
I would like to book what I exactly want so hoping I can reserve sooner rather than later.

When cancelled 31 or more days out, points in a reservation are returned to your account as is, meaning current year points remain current year, and any banked or borrowed points remain banked or borrowed. You will be able to bank any current points from the Sep 2013 use year (the current use year for an AUG 2014 trip) into the Sep 2014 use year only if you cancel by April 30, the end of your eighth month of the use year. You will not be able to bank any already banked or borrowed points and those will need to be used for a trip that ends before Sep 2014.

I think I should have added more information that I didn't think would matter.
What if I am using September 2014 points for my August 2014 trip.
If I rebook or move my ressie prior to April, would all the points just go back "as is" just like they started?

Oh? I always use the year that I am actually on vacation for the points in August??? For instance, I we traveled August 2013 and I used my September 2013 points, same for the year before. What am I not understanding?
I cannot use my September 2014 SSR points for an August 2014 trip?

The only way you can use Sep 2014 points for an Aug 2014 trip is to borrow the points from the Sep 2014 use year. If you do that and later cancel, those borrowed points will have to be used for a trip that ends by Aug 31, 2014 or be forever lost.

Your use year is Sep 1 to Aug 31. Any trip that occurs in Aug 2014 would be in your Sep 1, 2013 to Aug 31, 2014 use year and points effective Sep 2103 would be the "current" use year points for that trip. Points effective Sep 2014 can be used before Sep 1, 2014 only if borrowed. If you actually used your Sep 2013 points for an Aug 2013 trip then you must have borrowed them for that trip.

If I change my ressies using the borrowed September 2014 points, I have to use them all (the ones I borrowed for the ressie) by August 31, 2014? If I have a day or two that ran into September, which I would also use, those points go back as normal. Thanks so much!

One more question before I book please:

I am ready to book but changed our dates to September 2014.
SO, if I use my September 2014 points and decide to take a day away,
change resorts and use less points, all before April 30, my points will go back "as is" and I can bank them or use as usual. Is that correct?

if you cancel the reservation, all pts would drop back into your 2014 UY (for use from sept 1, 2014 to aug 31, 2015). any banked or borrowed pts would need to be used by aug 31, 2015 as they cannot be banked forward (or borrowed back for use prior to sept 1, 2014). any current (2014) pts that you don't need can be banked by april 30, 2015.

In the situation you describe you don't have a banking issue; you would only have a possible holding account issue if you make the change less than 31 days from date of arrival. If you cancel or change that trip at any time more than 30 days before date of arrival, points will go back into the account as Sep 2014-Aug 2015 use year points and you will be able to use them during that use year for another trip or bank them into the Sep 2015 use year by April 30, 2015. The only cancellation or change risk you would have in that situation is if you cancel or change less than 31 days from date of arrival in which case any points taken out of the reservation would be placed in a holding account; if they are Sep 2014 points, you'll then have until Aug 31, 2015 to use them but you can use them only by calling to reserve 60 days or less before intended arrival date.

yeah, i should have added that. april is no longer an issue for you when you are traveling early in your UY. the banking window is in april of the next calendar year after your reservation.

just be sure to cancel more than a month in advance as drusba says.

(still, if you cancel 2 weeks in advance with an august stay, your pts would still expire at the end of august and you'd probably lose them.

if you cancel 2 weeks in advance with a sept stay, even though you are stuck with holding pts, you have till the end of aug 2015 to try to figure out how to use or rent them...

early in the UY is better.)
