Book Excur. thru DCL or self?

I hit the wrong button, sorry.
My question is this:
We are on the Sept 25th 2004 Western cruise 7-day. I noticed in the posts it was cheaper to book your own excurisions. Example the Western Union Star Gazing Cruise $59 each DCl or $45 self.
But sept is the high hurricane month and if you book it yourself you would be out your money, if thru DCL it would not be charged to your room if "something " happened and you didn't get to go ashore on the right day.
Please help me figure out what to do Book my self and risk losing my money or book thru DCL and spend lots more. Please Help Me!!!!!!!!:bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

Depends. We are seasoned cruisers and have done it both ways. Usually choose ship excursions because of the ease. BUT, for Disney, they didn't offer anything we liked on any of the islands, so we booked them all ourselves for this trip. We will see how it goes. Leave in 6 days!!!

We have always booked our excursions through DCL with the exception of going to the beach. On Cozumel we took a taxi to Playa San Francisco which is a couple of hundred yards from Playa Del Sol where DCL charges more per person than what we paid in total for nearly the same experience. We have also done the same thing on St. Maarten (eastern) with a beach day.

We always book our snorkeling excursions through DCL.

I know many people have booked/created their own excursions with local tour companies (Captian Marvin's and captian Bryons on Grand Cayman and have been extreemly satisfied with those experiences (and money savings).

Many operators will refund money if the ship doesn't dock at the island. You would have to check the policies of each individual tour operator you are considering.

Sorry, wrote my post before I read the second part. You can book your own excursions that will refund your money if you don't get into port of if it needs to be cancelled due to weather. Our excursion in Grand Cayman is 100% refundable (Bucaneer Catamaran) if we don't make it. Key West, we pay when we get there (BOB's), and Cozumel, non-refundable, but goes-RAIN or SHINE (Dune Buggys)!!! I know many are run this way, but many others are not. Best to double check before booking your own.

mamo-

Yeah, more 9/25 cruisers! We are booking everything on our own....eagle ray divers in Cozumel, Capt Marvins in Grand Cayman and not a darn thing for Key West.

Ealge Ray and Capt Marvins both have cancellation policies if you are a cruise ship passenger, if something happens with weather, etc. You get everything back, but you need to contact them if you do not make it in to port.

We'll see you there....oh there is a small thread on the cruise meet board for the 9/25...
