Got an email from Disney about the Disneyland half over Labor Day weekend. They are offering a second medal to finishers who also ran at WDW this year. It got me thinking I might want to do it as I have never visited. My major concern is the heat. Anyone ever run it? SoCal must be really hot in late August.

I have not done this race yet but from what I understand, the weather was perfect for the first race ('06) and quite warm for '07. However, I don't think it is as humid there as it is in Florida so that can make a big difference.

Hopefully, others who did it in '07 will chime in. I'm thinking about doing this race as well.

I just signed up for the DL 1/2 for the same reason. My family has been thinking of going to DL for the past few years and the race sealed the deal for us. I'm not overly concerned about the race or weather for the following reasons...

1. Like you, I live in NJ and will be training all summer is hazy, hot, humid conditions that are as bad as you get for running.
2. I have been to So CA a lot over the past 10 years. The weather is MUCH more predictable than Orlando. I know it must rain in SoCA but in over a dozen trips I have never seen a drop of rain. You can almost guarantee it will be warm in the AM but dry as a bone. WeatherUnderground.com has a nice trip planner feature. It says it hasn't rained on Aug 31 in the last 10 years. Hi temps range from 84-104 but lows are 65-75.
3. It's a 1/2 marathon so the race will be over before 9AM for most runners. Between 6AM and 9AM you can expect good temps and dry conditions...way better conditions than what our families in NJ will be dealing with.

Should be an awesome experience!

I ran both years.

2006 was PERFECT running weather. A little cool, but nice for running. 56 degrees at 6 am, 68 at 9 am. Clear and not humid.

2007. Crazy heat wave came in a couple of days before the race. Temps in Anaheim were over 100 the day before. We started the race at 6 am with a temp of about 78 degrees. By 9 am, it was 85. By 10 am, it was 90. Later, on race day, it reached a high of 108!! (seriously, just check www.wunderground.com)

That said, the heat wave was an unusual weather occurrence for that area, from what everyone told me, including my brother who lives in LA.

Just for the castle medal, it is awesome! I would go for the special extra medal this year, but I have a big triathlon the week before, so can't do the DL race. darn.

As for the race course...you start through DCA, then go through DL...a lot of it after that is up and down plain city streets, so not so nice (at least the roads between the parks at WDW are landscaped...at DL it's an industrial area). Then, running through Angel Stadium is cool, then you go back through DCA and Downtown Disney to the finish. Couple of overpass hills, but otherwise flat.

Cheers!
