Bombas Socks Rock

Most of the socks Bomba's sells are a cotton/poly blend. Not all, but a majority. The donated socks are made of an antimicrobial material that extends wearability between washings and are black to show less wear (from their website), makes sense. I've bought some and have since found other brands I prefer (Paca's and Strideline).

So they sell the pairs they donate too. That's good. :thumbsup2 I was wondering if they are just a cheap dollar store quality pair.

I saw them also at TJMaxx pretty cheaply. I thought about getting them but my friend who was
with me said her son got holes after a few months. She ordered from the site. To their credit
they replaced the socks but she just donated them to a homeless shelter. Thought about
ordering gripper kind but don't see any reviews on those.

No, I'm sorry, I didn't mean that. The ones they donate are made differently and of different materials so they are better suited for the population they donate to. It's different so they stay a little more sanitary for longer and dark in color so as to not show dirt and wear as much.

We have not had good luck with Bombas. They replaced one pair that developed holes within a couple weeks, then two more pairs got holes and tears. All from normal use. We stick with Darn Tough socks.

"Stay a little more sanitary for longer"??? I surmise that means they are using some polyester or acrylic material instead of natural cotton or wool, that does not absorb moisture because it's a synthetic.

"Dark in color so as to not show dirt and wear as much"??? Are Bombas SERIOUS??? I live in a major metropolitan city that has an extreme homeless crisis. I pass by homeless people all the time. No homeless person is concerned about how much dirt and wear any of the clothing they are able to scrounge and find has. Sorry, that is just a crock of **** that they even say that. Homeless people live moment to moment. From one meal to the next. They aren't counting in days how much longer one pair of socks looks less worn than another pair.

So, it is likely that Bombas makes cheap dollar store equivalent, synthetic, black socks that they give the homeless. Socks they don't even sell to customers.

Basically Bombas is a very high end sock company that uses giving away socks to homeless as their advertising instead of just saying they are charging a lot of money for socks period. Yes, it's true the give away socks, and they never do state or show the pairs they donate are of an equivalent quality. In fact, they make a point to show those socks are different.

I don’t think it’s as nefarious as you’re making it out to be. If you look at the materials used in their socks, they’re all made using some varying blend of polyester, nylon, and elastane, even the ones categorized as “cotton” or “wool.”

As far as why the socks (and underwear and shirts, etc) that they donate to the homeless are black, well, black is generally regarded as a “safe” choice. It’s neutral, matches everything, it doesn’t show stains as easily as other colors, and most people are willing to wear it. Heck, it’s even considered “slimming.” If I were giving an article of clothing to someone I didn’t know, as Bombas is doing, I would choose black before something like hot pink. They probably give away black socks for simplicity’s sake. I have a feeling if they were giving away eye-catching hot pink socks, then the accusation would be that they were virtue signaling and advertising their products on homeless people.

I liked the pairs I bought a couple years ago but had to stop wearing them because they were so difficult to put on. Even when my toenails were short my toenails always caught on the inside threads. Finally gave them to my sister.

Wow those are some HUGE assumptions. Only on The DIS can we turn a good deed into something shady.

I have some Bombas. They’re nice but a little too heavy for me.
