My husband and I stayed at the Animal Kingdom Lodge last year, in the concierge level. He refuses to go back, because he says there is some spice in all the appetizers offered in the concierge lounge, as well as in EVERY dish at BOMA. He would only eat off the children's offerings at Boma! I really didn't detect this spice, and am wondering if there truly is some authentic spice that is in most of their food, or whether it is in his head. Anybody know? :confused3

:rotfl: :goodvibes You husband sounds like my father. He is a character in his own way. He has opinions on everything. He is the type. That he will not eat at "people's", family, friends, houses. He swears he can detect every kind of spice, or taste. Let me just tell you this. One day my mother made him chicken.. She rinsed the chicken off in the sink. He took one bite, and refused to eat it. He said he detected dishwashing liquid on the chicken. :rotfl2: lol You gotta just love them. :rotfl2:

Been saying this about Boma for years!

Our family cannot eat there. Not our immediate family or our extended family. Curry, Cumin, Bell peppers, other peppers. Not that things are "spicy" hot, but everything is certainly overspiced.

And we are from Texas, Florida, New York...none of which are exactly known for bland food! But we still cannot, will not do Boma.

Having Dinner at Boma: $27.99
Burpin Boma for a week: Priceless

I concur. The food here is amazing in it's preparation. And I do enjoy spiciness in food. But just not every single dish. I'm afraid this is how Boma effected DH & I. The only thing I truely enjoyed were the soups, salads, and desserts. All of the entree's were in 1 word...SPICEY!! Too much of a good thing in my humble opinion.

Blessings,.

We don't care for Boma either. It's not that we like bland food but just did not care for the combinations they use. Most on these boards rave about Boma I found it disappointing.

Boma is just one of those restaurants you have to try once to see if you will like it. There is no real way to describe it. Some people who are very bland and picky eaters have given it a try and loved it. Some who are very adventurous eaters have hated it. I doubt they have the same spice in every dish, but if he's made up his mind about it...

Too much coriander on their food for me. I can find things to eat there. but I have to be careful.

Mom has a severe reacton to savory, fortunately it is very rare to see savory used at Disney, and we always ask.

We love Boma, but I understand what you all mean in regards to the spicing. We find it to be an exotic taste that we enjoy, but it does lend an odd sweetness to almost every dish.

I have several recipes for dishes from Boma and they all include coriander and cardemom. In smelling them both seperately from my pantry, I would guess that it is the cardemom that you object to. It smells sweet and a bit lemony and is VERY foreign in regards to my usual cooking. (Be glad that you don't like it, I paid over $10 for the small jar I use to make the sirloin steak marinade!) :teeth:

We just ate at Boma for the 1st time in July. I didn't think the food was spicy at all. Maybe the stew, but my body cannot tolerate any spicy foods and I can't eat peppers even green ones. I have been taking Prilosec for a year and even with that I have to take Mylanta sometimes! If anything, I though the food was more "sweeter" than anything. Maybe it was just the foods I picked? Funny, my DH the food adventurer wasn't keen on going here..it was I (the same place, same dish person) who insisted on going here. All four of us loved it (DD's 9 and 2).

I think this really is a matter of one's comfort zone and personal preferences when it comes to food. I'm the type of eater who likes to try different things. I have a fascination with food (particularly preparing it), so I love to try different things. I, personally, loved Boma. I think the textures and flavors were pretty unique. I never would have assumed that cocunut and curry would taste so wonderful on grilled salmon...and yet there I was going back for more and more helpings. If one is not prone to eat a lot of a certain type of thing, it can be troublesome venturing out to try foods one is not accustomed to. I would always highly encourage heavily researching menus and possibly recipes before doing that venturing if you're just not sure.

I'm one of the pickiest eaters around, and I loved Boma. I didn't find it spicy at all. To each their own, I guess.

We have Boma scheduled for breakfast and dinner. I am beginning to wonder if that will be too much. Should I only go for one or the other and if so, which one? :sunny: :sunny: :sunny: :sunny: :sunny:
