Bob's dicount Furniture

We recently purchased furniture from them before a BIG move away from the area. When placing our order & asking about delivery the salesperson told us not to worry about it. I advised her we are moving out of state and if it isnt there she is going to lose the whole sale as we would have to cancel. She then changed her tune and said to have it shipped to the wearhouse a full week (2 delivery dates) before we actually wanted it, in order to ensure we had it before we left. We did this, and when we called to confirm it was there we were told it was not (on the day we told them we wanted it, which was 1 week before we really needed it). We were told to check back on the next date they got delivery, again, not there. Then the day we actually needed it, it WAS there. However one of the items we ordered was not there, the salesperson had deleted it when she gave us her "better price". My fault for not catching it in the paperowrk mess. Needless to say, they have some serious issues.

The furniture we did get is nice, a couple of scratches on the dresser but that could be from our movers and we are out of state now and keeping it.

So she hung up on me. I put er on old for like 20 seconds and click. After I had waited for like a half hour on hold
I mean that hurt, it hurt bad.
Well I got right back on te phone. I really hoped to get the same person on the phone but I didn't

Anyway after the usual 1/2 hour of music, I got someone.
The system was up.
And she set me up wit an apointment for the exchange delivery for thursday.
I mean she sounded sincere, I really belived tat she atempted to do this.
She sounded sincere.
Thursday comes and I am gtting everything ready for the big exchange.

They make it tempting with their low prices, but I will never buy from them. I have heard so many horror stories from family and friends that it has turned me off for life.

The quality is really lacking and after a few years needs to be replaced. Your horror story of customer service has to be the worst C.S. story I have heard in a long time.

I'm sorry you are going through all of this. I hope you are able to get it worked out without killing anyone or having an aneurysm.

I really don't think you should have answered the other call. I would have hung up also. Its a little crazy to expect them to wait for you when you called them.

:scared1:How you have not gone to the Bob Store and tossed it at the window is beyond me. :scared1:

So I am waiting on thursday, and I get this bad feeling around 10:30.
So I call by 11 I am through and talking to a man who tells me I am not in the system for delevery.

Can you belive it, I mean just not there at all. I was speachless. I am I just tokk the day off the lady said I was in. I ask to speak to a manager. And the guy is giving me a hard time about it. Finally he tells me that he will transfer me. Bfore he can finish I end his sentance with but I will have to wait on hold. He says "Yeah"

He pops in on me from time to time to make sure I am still on hold, why I am not sure because I feel pretty freaking confident that if I hung up or was diconnected he wasn't calling me back.

I think that you get what you pay for when it comes to furniture.

After the experiences I had with Seaman's and Levitz years ago, I will never shop at a discount furniture chain again. Nowadays you have Bob's and Ashley's, and the way I see it, those stores are Seaman's and Levitz reincarnated.

I have had no issues with teh furniture I bought from Bob's. I compare what I bought from Nassau's and Bob's wins hands down. I spent a fortune on that set and got horrendous customer service and the warrantee was not honored.

I bought the mattress we have from them becasue they promised to take it back if we hated it and they would not charge the return fee. On a king mattress that is $400. I called four months out and they tole me I could choose a different one and if DH could nto sleep on that one I could change it out again. I kept the original one and have not looked back.

OP- if you are close enough to his flagship store I would go there myself. He is there often I am told and I think that you woul dhave your concerns addressed in a more conscientious manner. If htis is not agreeable then I would call back and insist on speaking to a manager. I would nto be speaking to anyone not empowered to correct this issue and I would make it clear that I am not at all satisfied with the customer service or the quality of the goods I have purchased and want that rectified.

Has anybody ever dealt with this place.
What a nightmare I am having.

I've bought things from them several times. Some good, some not so good.

My bedroom set :thumbsup2

My DDs bedroom set :thumbsup2 BUT the delivery guy backed his truck into our stone retaining wall and broke it. I called and complained several times, and they sent someone out to fix it. I was not happy, but in the end, they fixed it, so I was satisfied.

Another time I ordered a dining room set :headache:: table, chairs and china cabinet. I waited 6 weeks. Then they told me, "Your furniture is in, but the china cabinet was damaged, we need to reorder it". :headache: I told them wait and deliver it all at once...I was worried something would happen and I wouldn't get a full set. Well I was right. Then the china cabinet was backordered. At 16 weeks, the china cabinet was "no longer available". I still had no furniture. They told me that they would refund me for the china cabinet, but not the table and chairs. the policy was no refunds they told me. I told them that I had bought the WHOLE set, and that if I couldn't have the WHOLE set, then they better refund me. After numerous phone calls to corporate and numerous times of me going to the store and telling the manager that it was NOT acceptable, they did end up refunding my money, but it was a major headache for me.

Honestly, I think this sort of thing is typical of all furniture stores. I've had problems with a few different ones over the years.

OMG.

Can't get a refund at this point? I wouldn't be able to deal with this any longer...not worth the amount of money you are saving.

I tried to call them today, I cannot explain how imposible it is to reach them. I was on hold for like a half hour again, and then when I got somebody I am pretty sure mid way she dropped the call. Right as she stated I wanted a refund and how bad she felt for me.

They keep telling me they can not give me a extension, everytime I get put on hold for like a half hour.

Finaallty somebody gave me a number to the corp, I got the switchboard lady who put me back to the customer service que. So I called her back and she sent an email to have someone call me. They didn't by the time I left work. But I actually guessed what is causing much of their systems problems which ironically I only knew from my own programming experiance.

After reading this, I know I'll never buy from Bob's. The cheesy commercials made me almost sure, but this customer service horror story sealed the deal.

What kind of damage? Is it always the same?

Yeah it must be the way they pack they pack the legs inside the end tables. It really isn't there fault I alomost wonder if the tables came over from whereever when there was the bad storm and the boat was rocking or something. After all this time you gotta start trying to fill in some of the questions just to keep your sanity.

I have to agree with Jersey Janice: you get what you pay for. Cheap furniture is typically just that - cheap, with cheap customer service and cheap salespeople to go along with it. We had a store like that around here called Value City Furniture. Cheap, cheap, cheap with store loans at high % terms. I think it finally went out of business.

DH doesn't really care about furniture. All he cares about is comfort which leads me to be a bit creative with what I throw over his favorite chair and the couch in order to make them match my furniture (we each had our own household when we got married). And while they ain't pretty, they are well made, have lasted since the 1930's when his folks bought them, and will last for us for at least the next 50 years or so (dammit):headache:.

As for my furniture, I subscribe to my parent's philosophy which has stood me in good stead: buy one good quality piece at a time as you can afford it, buy local, and buy from a reputable store. That's how I rounded out my living room and dining room set. We're keeping those for the next 50 years or so, too, and will either pass them along to his nephews and nieces or my 2nd cousins since we don't have children to pass them down to.

It sounds like this Bob's place is just as bad as our Value City place with all the complaints, problems and delivery issues. Sorry to hear of your troubles, but you get what you pay for. Hopefully you can get some of your money back when you sell it later to invest in quality stuff. I have my doubts about that, though. Value City furniture after 10 years is really only good for the fireplace or homeless shelters.

There's one advice I read which I think it's valuable if you after all decide to buy from these types of furniture store.

Always go with a pick up truck, check out the actual pieces of furniture for any damage, and once you are satisfied, take the furniture with you. Never rely with their delivery or costumer service.

I really feel for you, OP. So frustrating!

A friend just bought a full house of furniture from Bob's. they paid the $400 for the goof proof and boy are they glad they did.
their bedroom set came without problems and it is absolutly beautiful.
Their dining room set had 3 chairs damaged that they are still waiting for. they had to sit on lawn chairs for Thanksgiving. the chairs have come twice since and they were damaged. I bet they just kept delivering the same furniture hoping they wouldn't notice. Same damage on all, but the plastic on the seats of the ones she had were removed and the new furniture had the plastic on. Also, her hutch is on back order. I thought if you bought a full room of furniture they would have all the pieces since t was a package.
But the dining room furniture is georgeous too, definately solid wood and well made.
Her living room couches are great. Leather chairs with recliners on each end. Her coffee table came with a scratch and when someone came to look at it they said that she had put the scratch on. Well goof proof is supposed to cover any damage for the first year so after some discussion they said they would bring another with the dining room chairs. Two deliverys and the table was still not put on the truck.
Her 4th set of chairs is coming on Tuesday and she plans on calling the store Monday to remind them to bring the table too.
But when I told her about this post and asked her if she would buy from Bob's again she said she would. She had looked at every furniture store in the area (and here in CT there are hundreds) and she didn't find anything as nice as what she got from Bob's. Plus, their cookies are delicious...lol
