Boatwright's Dining Hall??

Hi, have any of you tried Boatwright's? I'd like to make time in my next stay to visit Port Orleans & am wondering if it will be worth it to just make an adr at their restaurant?

We enjoy it. On the trip before last, a big storm back home stranded us in Orlando for two extra days. We got a room at Riverside and had dinner at Boatwright's just because it was the most convenient thing to do last-minute. It was the most pleasant surprise of the trip! On a vacation that included dinners at Citricos, Jiko and Il Mulino, that dinner at Boatwright's is still memorable as the one that most exceeded our expectations. We liked it so much that we made it a point to return on our last visit as well, and the second visit was just as good as the first.

I'm going to say it depends on what you are used to. We also stayed a couple extra days last fall due to Sandy and not knowing if we had a home to come back to. We used to stay at POR before we bought DVC and enjoyed Boatwrights so we decided to eat there for dinner. We were severely disappointed. There wasn't anything wrong with the food but it was bland. We ordered crawfish étouffée and had to ask for hot sauce to add flavor. It was also parboiled rice which I personally do NOT care for. The food was just under the quality that we are now used to at WDW.
Service was horrible. Our dd was 2 and getting ready to be done with the meal. The waitress saw this and walked away. I thought to get our bill so I sent DH out with dd to walk around while I paid the bill thinking 5-10 mins. She didn't come with the bill for 25 mins and I couldn't find her! Then I said here you go so she could run my tiw and kttw card right away and she just walked away empty handed! About 10 mins later she delivered the dessert course to a nearby table and tried to walk away but I politely called her name and waved the bill folder at her. She took it and again I wanted another 10 mins! At this point DH and dd were outside for 45 mins waiting for me!
I'm sure she was busy and my experience was isolated but I was livid. That's too much especially when she knew dd was done! She was polite and got our orders right but 2.5 hrs from getting seated to paying the bill for a casual sit down is beyond acceptable. 2.5 hrs at Caliornia Grill or Flying fish is perfectly paced but not if 45 of it is waiting for your bill to be settled.

We stayed at POR in 2011 and had an ADR at Boatwrights - we all enjoyed our meal (kids included). It was so nice to just stay in the resort that night and relax!

We also stumbled upon Boatwrights on our last trip and loved it. The steak was the best I had all week!

I really enjoy Boatwright's. They bring big, fluffy, warm cornbread out shortly after you're seated, and I love it! My entire family has enjoyed each meal we've had there, and it is nice eating so close to the room. Our service has always been great there, too. Another thing I recommend you doing at POR - go see Yehaa Bob at the bar next door to Boatwrights. He was so much fun, on our last trip my daughter wanted to go back to see him instead of heading back to the parks for fireworks! He's usually there Wednesday through Saturday evenings, but check out his website (yehaabob.com) and see if he'll be there. He's a hoot!

We had our Christmas Dinner there last year and it was a very memorable and delicious meal. So much so, that we will be eating there again this Christmas! All of the food was excellent and very plentiful. The service was also excellent. No complaints here!

We ate there November of last year. It was good. Nothing great. Over priced (like all Disney restaurants) We had the DDP or I probably wouldn't have eaten there. We had a great server. She was very nice. I just can't see spending $125 out of pocket for 2 adults and 1 11yr old boy.

We liked the food. The Prime Rib was excellent. But I agree that the food was overpriced (even for Disney standards). The atmosphere is just OK, kinda dull and noisy (sound bounces off the walls). We were seating very close to other parties even when the place was empty. It's a convenient place to eat if you're staying at POR or POFQ. But I wouldn't go out of my way for it. They are rarely busy so you don't have to an ADR to eat there. If you're on the fence, get an ADR and you can always cancel later. There is no cancellation fee.

I like Boatwright's. Last ate there in February 2012 and really enjoyed the jambalaya and a slice of pecan pie for dessert. I don't think the restaurant design or theme creates much atmosphere, but it's pleasant enough and the service was good. Since we were staying at POR it was nice to be able to eat at the resort.

We ate there our last trip in 2011 on our last night since POR was our resort and found it to be one of the best meals we had at Disney. Now I'm from Western Canada so don't know much about southern cooking but both DH and I enjoyed our food though found grits to be a bit odd. I had pork and he had catfish. Now maybe if you were from the south it might not be to your liking but for us northerns it was great. I don't think it's so good for kids unless they are getting stuff on the kids menu...well at least my kids who don't eat anything different. I'd say if your staying on the resort and you want and day when you just staying put it's worth eating here.

NOTE: Boatwrights used to get good reviews, but over
the past two years has really gone down hill in the food
quality department. In our opinion, it is below average. The
Prime Rib and VooDoo Chicken were both voo-doo hoo-doo.
However, we did enjoy the Blackened Fish Fillet. For dessert,
the Banana Foster Angel Food Cake was heavenly. Convenient
for the resort guests, but not highly recommended. If staying
at POR, we do recommend walking to POFQ for the food court.

We ate there in May. They had just had a menu change and I was sad that the beef tenderloin medallions were gone but I loved, loved, LOVED the new spinach and pear salad. My pasta was OK and DH's pork chop was really good - thick but properly cooked, tender and juicy without being underdone. And I always eat too much of the cornbread they put on the tables.

We've had, generally, good experiences at Boatwrights. The prime rib was good both times we were there.. We had an earlier ADR's - before 7 and DH had a nice MR cut both times. I tasted it and it was really good and I worked in a fine dining restaurant that specialized in prime rib. However, supplier is key and you can ruin it if it isn't slowly roasted and watched. The jambalaya wasn't what I was used to; however, I had the etouffe the next time and it was better. The flavors were odd in the jambalaya. It was more HOT than flavorful. The salads, apps and desserts were all pretty good. It was DD's birthday and she was more than sprinkled with Pixie dust. The CM we had was stellar. Efficient, attentive (but not overly so) and brought out balloons and a flower for DD's bday, sang to her. I know the experiences can run hot and cold here, so I guess it's a toss up.

It was ok, nothing I would go out of my way for, even if I was staying there (we ate there on our last trip when we were staying at POFQ). We got the crawfish etouffee, jambalaya, beef medallions, and pork chop. We liked the etouffee the best. I think I got an onion soup as my dinner and it was good. The other things were meh. Service was very, very slow. Nothing was bad, just meh.

We stay at POR for our longer vacations and we're trying it on our last night this trip. The menu looks all right, but we're actually eating early here so that we can slip over to see Yee Haw Bob afterwards.

Very good food! Definately worth it!
