Boardwalk Villas

Why???? I'm 61 right now and I've got two trips booked and a third one being planned. :cool1:

If you think your life will end before your that OLD, it might! :confused3

Celebrate your life every day and make sure the people you love know you love them and enjoy WDW into your 70's and 80's like I plan to do. :woohoo:

Right on, mouseaider! :hippie:

Can't speak for the previous poster, but I do.

Got 7 nights in a standard view this year. I hear that's impossible to get during Food and Wine. Maybe I should write up a case report on the subject as proving the impossible wrong?

BTW - I love my home resort. I don't mind when others stay at it. Curious why it's a problem when "outsiders" stay at yours? :surfweb:popcorn::

You were lucky. I rarely have good luck with the Epcot resorts. That said I own at AKV, OKW and BCV. I use most of my points for late bookings and am very happy at SSR so all is good.

That said I have been wait listed quite a while for a BCV 1 bedroom for an extra weekend during Food and Wine

For me the expiration date is not an issue. I appear to be older then a lot of you. If I can still haul my 90 year old body to Disney I will worry about that then :)

I actually started looking at boardwalk villas because it has a earlier date of expiration. I'm not sure what's going to happen in the future but I will be 61 when boardwalk contract ends. I can't imagine going any longer than that

I'm 58 and looked at DVC since inception but never could make it happen. I finally did - two years ago. I'm sure hoping I'm enjoying it at 61 and long after. And if not, then my children and their children will...but my hope is that it's me for quite a while yet.

We travel specifically for F&W, so feel like our points HAVE to be BWV. Good thing we are always happy there. Nothing better than a std view 1 bdrm for 10 days, IMHO.

Gosh! I will be 61 in two weeks. I just retired 3 months ago after teaching 30 years. I am so happy to be able to go now without planning my trips around school breaks. I really hope to be going until I am 92 when the 2042 resorts are finished.

I'm 44. We've owned for about eleven years. Our kids are now tweens. The only reason at this point is that we promised friends a trip "when their baby is a toddler" - they've spent the past ten years TTC or adopting and still don't have a baby - and selling would look like we've given up hope. We do still enjoy our trips to WDW, but frankly, we enjoy traveling other places as well and probably more. The "obligation" of owning a timeshare - particularly one as inflexible as DVC - is beginning to wear.

I could hang onto it and gift it to my daughter - my son isn't likely to care, but she is a Disneyphile. But its going to be at least fifteen years before she'll be able to afford it yet.

So there ARE people who can't imagine owning forever. I really HOPE I don't own BWV when I'm 61. That would mean I'd passed on so many other travel opportunities. Don't get me wrong - its been an amazing thing to have at our disposal when the kids were young.

When buying something for the long term - know thyself. It really doesn't matter if someone else is still taking trips at 85, or if someone else takes six trips a year, or if someone else always travels in February and therefore gets BWView or Standard View rooms without an issue. What matters is what your experience is going to be like - so know what you want - then if you are looking for advice, weight that of people who sound like they have your travel patterns, desires, etc.

We like to stay where we own. I like to make my plans eleven months out, and then not worry about them until I can for dining reservations (I usually order tickets from a broker about the same time). We go to Disney because after many trips, its an EASY we don't have to think about it vacation. I don't want to bother switching at seven months - or calling at seven months to see what is available. For us, Disney is a proceduralized operation and staying at a home resort we like makes that more possible.

(We have switched resorts....maybe we will again.)

Start imagining.

I just purchased my BWV re-sale for ALOT less than $55 and it was approved. So make sure to shop around on the re-sale boards and you will find a better deal than $55.

May I inquire what price you paid? We're in the process trying to find a BWV contract that will work with our current use year.

Well, well, well. I"m 60 now and still do all the coasters! :rotfl2: I love TSM, and am beginning to look for the right resale contract to add BWV for our fall F & W visits. Don't imagine your use of WDW will end at 61!

For my 60th birthday, we did the Wild Africa Trek -- great hanging out with the hippos and crocs.

We bought in Dec. 2007 when we turned 50. We added on to our SS pts when BLT opened up so that means our pts expire when we are 102? I doubt we will be going but our 4 adult children and their families (hopefully they will all get married and have children lol) will enjoy Disney.

We own as I stated above at SS and BLT. We always get BWV for Food and Wine. It has never been a problem. When we bring our daughter, now 19, we stay at BWV the most. We can walk to two parks, no problem. We thought about buying a contract but didn't because we never have an issue getting the resort. Now getting BLT, that has become a problem. 320 pts and it seems like we can never get it, even during the slow times! I did learn reading the DVC board here on the DIS, we just need to plan 11 months out and call when MS opens that day.

Live and Learn. Kathy

Funny how this has tuned into an age thread :lmao:

Anyway, I'm in my late 50's and now's when we finally have time and money for quick trips and family get-togethers. Couldn't do it in our 30's.

I don't expect I'll be doing that much traveling in 2042 but hopefully we'll be going for the next decade or two.

I'm 61 and have owned BWV for 11 years. I do not visit every year but bank and borrow enough points to take my large extended family and friends every three years . I have been to Disney now too many times to count and have no desire outside of F&W to go but family all expect the tradition to continue . I truly do enjoy our multigenerational trips but Disney has declined in so many ways whether it be cleanliness of the parks and rooms, outrageously expensive meals and ticket prices. I cannot even get some people to go anymore even with free room as everything else is beyond most people with small children's means. At some point i plan to sell a few contracts and keep one for my son and his wife if they still want to go. Disney needs to upgrade their offerings as I find too little in the parks that I have not seen and so I often only visit Epcot or just use DVC as lodging. Universal is gaining on Disney

Reasons to choose BWV...

Reason #1: We chose BWV for the shorter RTU (expires about when we won't be going to WDW anymore - when we're 85 & 80). Didn't want to saddle kids inheriting a timeshare or having to try to resell when a senior. Like that it will just kind of expire when we do.

Reason #2: BWV has mostly single floor Grand Villas without stairs (top 2 floor offers a few 2 story ones). Person in family in wheelchair. BWV offers the only grand villas that are single story that you can also walk or wheel over to 2 of the parks. Jambo also has single story grand villas but need bus to go anywhere, or a car. Beach Club has none.

Reason #3: View of Boardwalk & lake guaranteed booking category. Are there any great views from Beach Club?

Reason #4: Now that Pleasure Island closed the clubs, the only adult places left are Jellyrolls & Atlantic Dance Hall, at Boardwalk.

Reason #5: Husband a sports fanatic & like breweries, and Boardwalk has ESPN & Big River Brewery. Check & check.

Reason #6: Location central for Epcot, Hollywood Studios, Mandara Spa & Fantasia Golf - son's favorite is always golf, doesn't do roller coasters, but does golf. I need a spa break mid-WDW trip.

Reason #7: Bang for the buck - get more points to use at better price.

Many don't like that BWV has lack of dining plan counter service except the BW bakery, don't like the LONG halls. Beach Club is slightly closer to Epcot, offers dedicated 2 bedrooms that are lacking at BWV, has covered path to counter service, closer parking lot to room, etc. Long halls are not a compaint at BC. Less supply of rooms drives up values too and BC has less than BWV (282 vs 383).

I like the atmosphere of Boardwalk best though. It's so pretty, shimmering at night, festive - love the magicians & performers on the boardwalk too, the clubs, nightlife. The pool I thought was too crazy at Beach Club, people in swimsuits running across walking path when trying to walk over to Yacht Club for dinner, also can lose sight of your kids fast. Boardwalk Villas has better line of sight for watching kids, still not old enough for the huge slide yet though.

We do like the pizza window at Boardwalk & the Bakery though, and that works for us fine since almost all one of my kids eats is pizza anyway. A chocolate coissant, breakfast sandwich, maybe a yogurt cup with fruit & granola, then like to eat at one of tables on the boardwalk. If it's pouring rain, that's when many at BWV are stuck having to brave the rain to get anywhere for food. But that's when we use our DVC kitchen that is stocked usually with tons of leftovers from the large portions given with meals anyway (never go anywhere without 2 tupperwares & pouch of ziplocs).

Do you get it during Food & Wine or early December? That's when I like to go.

My husband and I bought in August at the sales center, and our guide booked us four nights in a BW studio for October, only two months out. Funny that AKL and BLT were full.

I turned 60 today so for my “B” Day my hubby bought me a 150 pt add on at BWV. :rotfl: Obviously I don’t plan to stop visiting Disney World just because I’m 60.

I have a trip planned for Jan 2012 & working on a large family trip in 2014 with another trip in between in 2013. I love Disney & I hope that never changes.

After trying most all of the DVC resorts my heart belongs to BWV and my hubby doesn’t want to stay anywhere else. So I guess the saying “to each his own” applies here, buy & stay where you love & life doesn’t end at 60. :thumbsup2

To the original point, the economy may have something to do with the prices we are seeing on the resale market. We just completed our add-on @ $46 per point which I as the buyer was thrilled by; my guess is the seller “had” to sell for some reason that may or may not have to do with the poor economy.

Another AKV/SSR owner here who never has trouble booking BWV standard or Boardwalk view, however, I mostly go during low season.

We are considering buying resale at BWV and would love to find a contract for $46, where did you find it?

Hi E-P-C-O-T, we bought our resale through Fidelity. We worked with Sharon Reper who was terrific. If I were in the market for another resale I would definitely use Sharon again. Good luck & happy hunting. :)

BWV were probably full for DVC member reservations, too. The guides have access to developer owned & cash inventory and will often do things like you describe to make a sale or please a brand new member. Consider it a thank you favor for buying direct.

Enjoy your stay at the BWV. It's a great place to be, especially during Food & Wine Festival time.
