The company that provides our server made an equipment change on Monday and "forgot" to tell us where they moved, thus the access issues we have been experiencing.

The problem has been addressed and will self-fix as soon as the address propagates down thru the internet over the next few days.

Here is a more complete explanation from Webmaster Alex on the CB. The one good thing about all of this, with so few able to find their way in here, "search" has been working very well these last 48 hours! ;)

Welcome Home!!

thanks for the update Doc. Funny thing was until someone(realgrumpy) told me there was another way to acess the boards I thought it was my ISP or browser.Maybe as a future contingency plan an email blast should be sent out to inform us of th situation.

Hey Doc--thanks! I knew it was a DNS problem after the first few hours. I ended up doing a "WHOIS" search and coming in through an IP address...

Thanx for the update, Doc.
The first day I could not get to the boards, I was getting the shakes...:teeth:

We almost lost Von over on the Comunity board due to this.

Funny, I've been able to come in directly to this board with no problem. I have it as a favorite on AOL. (Thank goodness or I'd be shaking, too!) ;)

I can get in from either of my home machines, but not from work. I added the ip address to the 'hosts' file on my PC at work this morning now I have access again.

Woohoo!!

I had the opposite problem, and I still can't access the site directly through the disboards.com address. I had to substitue "disboards" in the address with "198.64.133.85" and save all the links that way. I hope my ISP gets hot and updates its server soon!

I havent been able to get on the boards for two days and was very worried when I finally got through and saw other people had been posting when I couldnt even get on. Thats when I knew I was addicted! I am relieved to see it is a larger problem then my computer- I was afraid I picked up a virus.

Just the opposite for me. Last couple days I can get on at work but not at home.

I started flushing cookies, logged off the forums at work, adjusted security settings......

now I can quit worrying!

I have been getting on the web site fine. I didn't really know there was a problem until one of my friends said she couldn't get on. I know I hadn't been getting any of my posting emails from the DIS for the last 2 days (until yesterday).

Thanks for the update Doc. I was getting the shakes like some of you others:p Glad everything is back to normal.

Well, this little glitch just creates another excuse to pass along a great big thank you to you and all the moderators who put the time and work into making this a wonderful place to visit and share stories and info about DVC. It is greatly appreciated, thank you, thank you, thank you!

Thanks Doc!

Hoped you shared your explanation with Alex under the "for a less detailed explanation click here".

His explanation when posted on the community board was making people's hair hurt!

If you are comfortable with a DOS prompt, you can try the following work around until this problem is resolved. You'll need to know where your 'hosts' file is located. For Windows 2000, it's normally located in the C:\WINNT\system32\drivers\etc\ directory. If yours if in a different spot, change my instructions accordingly. What this does is change 'hosts' so it can be modified, back it up, add the directions to access Disboards, and then refresh your system. You should then be able to access the Disboards normally in you browser. At the DOS prompt, press enter after each blue line below (cutting & pasting recommended);

set ETC=C:\WINNT\system32\drivers\etc\
copy %ETC%hosts %ETC%hosts.bak
attrib -R %ETC%hosts
echo 198.64.133.85 www.disboards.com >> %ETC%hosts
echo 198.64.133.85 disboards.com >> %ETC%hosts
nbtstat -R

When this issue is resolved in a few days, you can set your system back to normal with the following commands;

copy %ETC%hosts %ETC%hosts.bak
attrib -R %ETC%hosts
nbtstat -R

Good Luck, and remember, only try this is your fairly comfortable with DOS!

I have been having problems getting to the boards at home for the past two nights. Has there been a problem with the server or should I start looking at my computer?

Today's the first day I've been able to get on as well. Doing without the DIS is hard right before a trip. I LOVE AND MISS MY DIS!!!!;) :) :smooth: :Pinkbounc

At last, now I have something to read during lunch!! I couldn't get on at work or home. Glad things are back to normal. Thanks for the info.
