Has anyone heard that the Bank of Montreal is going to offer Airmiles with each debit used on the bank card??
I may be changing banks,,:goodvibes

Don't change yet! BMO has royally screwed me more than once in the past with their lack-lustre customer service.

And yes, it's supposedly one airmile for spending $40 on your debit card. Won't make a difference to me though - I won't change my habits or my intention to change banks.

Nothing could make me change from NO FEE banking at PC... all those banking fees I save add up to great travel money!! :goodvibes

Yep, I got something in the mail from them today, and the monthly fee for the privelege of earning airmiles on your regular account is $12!!! Forget that!! I'll save the $144/yr and keep my PC account. That's pretty much roundtrip airfare to MCO! Oh, and I still get my PC points when I shop for my groceries at Loblaws, Zehrs, etc. and when we use the M/C. I looked at our points accounts a little while ago and we've earned and used well over $2000 in free groceries, movie passes, gift cards etc. from PC and I don't pay them a cent in service charges!

Beat that BMO!!!

Don't change banks. I have been with BMO for years. They will have this promo for awhile just to get new customers and then likely take it away. We had this up until last year. I think they took it away in order to bring it back as some kind of marketing ploy. All the major banks are offering some incentives to bank with them. Our TD branch in town is offering a MP3 player if you switch over to them.

The main reason I bank where I do is for the amazing personal customer service that we have with BMO. They provide in home meetings, and often offer to personally deliver any documents needing a signature etc. This is just because at our branch the employees will go out of their way to help you out and keep your business. Even when our Mortgage is up for renewal, we do not go through the corporate offices in Toronto. BMO sends a standard form letter to all mortgages coming due to contact their mortgage department in Toronto, I did and hung up on them..;) because they lack personal customer service and were not going to give us the best rate. We always meet face to face and get the best rate available in our area. :upsidedow Did I say don't change banks?? I am sure not all BMO branches opperate this way. But I am happy ours does.

This program is replacing the airmiles program they've had for years, which we loved. I'm going to switch to PC banking most likely as we rarely, if ever, use debit and our airmiles collection will suffer.

I think you should read the details here http://www4.bmo.com/lvl/airmiles/0,4618,22133019_22135221,00.html

and likely more than just the OP should read this as there is alot of misinformation on this thread about what is or is not changing and how much it costs. I know Banks are easy to bash but I love my airmiles - and generally buy our MYW tickets every year using them so for me this offer is GREAT! We deal with BMO and are very happy. I also find it funny that people have no problem coughing up at a MINIMUM $25 a month to Bell for their phone, but hate to spend $12 to get a full financial services (investment advice, loans and mortgages, estate planning etc etc)? You would pay a heck of a lot more at a Financial Planner.

Sorry - rant over. :goodvibes

I just found out that BMO has a prepaid travel mastercard. It is basically like having travellers checks but a lot easier to use. You use it like any mastercard. The bonus is that you get airmiles on your purchases. The only down side is that there is no US dollar version. With the exchange rate being so good right now I like to use cash.

The airmile rate is 1/$40 and there is a $9.95 charge to get the card.

This is good news! I prefer using a prepaid credit card when travelling. can You keep reloading the card?

I don't know if you can reload it. I just assumed that you could. I will have to call and ask. I am going to get one to pay for my MYW package and then I would need to add more money for the trip. With the package cost and what I estimate our spending will be I will earn close to 100 airmiles. Pretty good for $9.95 and if it can be reloaded I would continue to use it at home instead of my credit card.
