I am torn between the dolphin encounter and the dolphin swim. Anyone done both that can advise? Also why does the beach day (much cheaper) include lunch but the dolphin programs do not? I know you can enjoy the beach/ island just like the beach day excursion after your dolphin swim/ encounter, but you have to pay extra for lunch. Somehow I am having a hard time with that, since the dolphin swim is 3 times more than the beach day alone. I get that it includes dolphins, but couldn't they throw in lunch?

But I digress. I'm just looking for opinions on the dolphin swim vs encounter.

Thanks so much!

Very strange that you would have to pay for lunch when you have already paid so much extra for the swim. I would hope it is an error. The Island is awesome, you will have a great time!

I have done the Disney excursion of the dolphin swim at the Blue Lagoon with my brother's family and loved it. It did not include lunch. When we did it, we had a choice of morning or afternoon and my brother selected the afternoon time (although I would have preferred the morning time). The time went quickly from the orientation part to the time in the water. When we were done, it was time to take the ferry back towards the ship. If we had done the morning one, there would have been time to stay at the Blue Lagoon beach area and you could take back a later ferry, but for ours we had to head right back to the ship to be back on time.

I did not do the encounter there, but have done an encounter at the Atlantis when I stayed there. Both were great experiences. I was glad I had done the encounter first. Not sure if the Blue Lagoon does it the same way or not, but at the Atlantis, we kneeled the whole time and the dolphin was brought up to each of us throughout our time in the water.

For the dolphin swim at the Blue Lagoon, we wore life jackets and the water was deeper. Once again, the dolphins would be brought up to interact with each of us. However, when that portion was over, we sat on the edge of the dock. The trainer would tap us one at a time to go in the water by ourselves and we had to lay with our arms out and our feet behind (which they had explained how to do). The dolphin (and in some cases it was two dolphins) came from behind and pushed you through the water. I will admit I was really nervous about the swim, but had not been nervous about the encounter. Am I glad I did the swim? Yes.
