Blue Goose Trip

Coral Reef used to be my favorite. The last two times I went, I was extremely disappointed . . . but I would be willing to try it again. I'm not going for the food - new people make "old" restaurants feel like new experiences! I would like to "sign up" for as many "group" meals as possible. Please let me know when everyone makes ADR's! I'm in.
The window for us to make ADR's for our trip opens up on May 5th, or at least that's what I the CM told me.

I was so freakin bored earlier, I went through each park/resort to see where I wanted to eat and check out the menus. :sad2:

In a way it was good because I realized some of the places I thought I wanted to go to, I really don't.

For example, Spoodles is out for me. I couldn't find anything on their menu, since I don't eat steak, seafood or pork.

And Beaches and Cream, while it sounds good is not worth using a Table Service credit on.

This is what I came up with (for now, lol) that I am personally interested in. No days or times yet of course, just ideas.

TS Meals - 6 credits
International Dinner and Illuminations Dessert Reception (2) -I am really looking forward to watching Illuminations without fighting the crowd!!
Sci-Fi Dine-In (1)
Boma (1) -this is will be interesting since the menu sounds iffy to me, but I want to say I've been there
Cape May breakfast buffet (1) -I want to do one breakfast this trip, and only one. Trish raved about this place so I am going to try it for a LATE breakfast, lol
Coral Reef (1) -the menu is mainly seafood, but they do have chicken, and the place just looks so nice, I want to go for the experience alone
House of Blues -this is not on the DP, so I will pay out of pocket for this one, but I told Kat I'd try it and I will.

CS Meals - 6 credits
Earl's of Sandwich (1) -this will be on Friday night when we all meet before going to the AC
Tusker House (1) -I've heard good things about this place and really want to eat there while at AK
Sunshine Seasons (1) -I thought the day of the Illuminations dinner, it would be nice to just spend the whole day in Epcot and eat here for an early lunch

That's all I have for CS meals that I really wanted to try. The rest it doesn't matter.

And of course for the snacks I'll be getting one Dole Whip, one Mickey Bar, and the rest will be krispy treats to take home to the kids.

I'm pretty happy with those choices. I know we had a million and one changes last year, but I don't think I'll be doing much changing this year. I've looked at the menus and like the food.
Plus I don't want to go anyplace I've been before. Other than Earl's those are all new places for me.

Anyways, like I said, I was bored. :rotfl:
Hopefully some others will decide to join me for some of those meals. :thumbsup2

hi Beth,

Right now I am just Earl of Sandwich on Friday. I'm constrained by time. If there is a dinner on Sunday I might go if the food & wine festival isn't offering something I want to do.

hi ya gals

I'm using dh's laptop, funny, but for some reason the smiley's are all doing their dances, on my desktop they don't move.

Beth I saw your dining choices, those look good to me, some of them I've never tried so it all looks good to me. Can you let me know when we need to reserve the illuminations thing? I don't want to miss out on that, it's dinner and then dessert right? I hope that the reserved viewing is better than what my family got one year using the package reserved seating, there was no seating it was just a boat ramp that we stood on, it stunk.

I did a bit of looking at menus also to see if I would like the dining plan. I will only be there 5 nights, and 2 of those I will likely be solo 10/30 & 10/31. So, I am still not sure. But, if I did the DP it might look like this

Boma dinner 11/1
Coral Reef 11/2--lunch since that is the Earl of Sandwich meet night
Boma breakfast 11/4instead of HOB Gospel brunch

I am still not sure about the DP. Since I will only be there 5 nights, and solo 2of those nights I am not sure I will come up with places to go. I don't mind doing a TS solo, but at this point I would feel "forced" to pick TS meals. I know I could find a # of places I want to gobut I am not sure if I want to get the DP and then start trying to fill out my TS meals.

I want to do Boma. And I could do Boma breakfast instead of HOB Gospel brunch...and I would like to do Coral Reef. So, that is 3. If I did one while I was solo...and try to find time to do another during the meet...

I still definately want to do Spoodle's, hopefully someone else will want to join me. Coral Reef sounds good , I've been to Boma but only for breakfast.

International dinner is a maybe for me. I'll see when we get closer to the trip.

Earl of Sandwich on Friday is a for sure :)

I don't think I have ever seen such a thing as seating for Illuminations. You'll probably get a "premium" place to stand but I wouldn't expect seating.

Okay. I know you have alot going on. I think Friday will be fun if we can all make it to Earl's and then head to the AC. And I'm sure there will be something on Sunday that you can join in on. :thumbsup2

The Illuminations Dinner and Dessert Reception ADR time is the same as the regular ones, 180 days out.

No Teppanyaki? I thought you wanted to give it a try.
I do. And I actually went back and forth between that and Coral Reef. In the end, while I think I'd like the food better at Teppanyaki, the atmosphere with that huge aquarium at Coral Reef just seems too cool.

And I have been to a place where they cook your food in front of you like that before. So that's how I came to that decision.
Have you ever been to Coral Reef? Are you interested at all?

There are several who want to do Spoodles so you'll be fine. I am just so darn picky.
And yay for Earl's!! I want everyone to go!! Maybe we can even put the word out and if there are any other DISers who will be there at that time, they can meet us there. :confused3 I mean that would be an option to meet some others who might be there with their families or spouses, kwim? And with the type of place it is we wouldn't have to worry about an ADR. Who ever shows up, shows up.

Just a thought that we can all discuss before we say anything.

I think I am going to call and request more info on that event. Try to get some specifics. Although I doubt there will be seating either.

Here is an interesting review of the Illuminations dinner/dessert. It's old, from March of '05, but might give some idea of what to expect.

"We met out front at the The Odyssey restaurant. Chef’s from several of the World Showcase restaurants bring out their finest offerings for this multi-national buffet. The night we ate, Italy, Morocco, Norway, and China were represented (there might have been more, but I was stuffed!) We were brought to our tables by the Hostess and sat down, entertainment already in progress.

We were given special event pins, which we were asked to wear for the evening, and would grant us admission to the private patio reserved for us later. There are four event pins in all; one for each Grand Gathering special event.

There was a DJ, a rather energetic one, spinning tunes up front, while the MC worked the audience with jokes and little stories. We got our food and sat and enjoyed it while the entertainers recognized (and sometimes teased!) each Grand Gathering. (there was one group of all moms & daughters, on a ‘Disney Diva’s’ trip that got a special round of applause!) After that, they recognized birthdays, and an Anniversary, which was very sweet (the couple had to get up and dance)

Then, Goofy and Minnie entered, amid great fanfare. They got the audience up and dancing, the kids going wild. A conga started, looping in and out of the tables in the audience. Goofy and Minnie mingled for a bit, as things wound down. Individual tables were called out (in the order in which they arrived) to meet with a private one-on-one with Mickey himself, out in the foyer. You could have a Disney photographer take your picture, if you wished, for a fee, and through Disney’s PhotoPass system. We were also allowed to use our own cameras.

From there, we strolled down the walkway a bit, led by Disney event staff (the ‘baton people’) to a private area roped off for us, behind one of the shops at the entrance of the World Showcase, right on the edge of the water. The desserts were amazing... Chocolate mousse, fruit tarts, chocolate cake... Amazing. Just scrumptious. There was a wonderful coffee bar, with a wide assortment of teas as well. My favorite was the hot chocolate – thick and rich and just right.

We had plenty of time to mingle and talk out on the patio. It felt like we were priveleged Guests, behind the velvet roping and lush greenery screening us from the many on-lookers. I lost track of time, watching the tall torches flaring in the darkness, and talking to my friend, waiting for the show to begin.

It began with a bang, and right in front of us. We were so close, I imagined my eyebrows were getting tinged. I’ve been at many points around the lagoon to watch this show (my favorite) and this venue, by far, blew them all away. We had a completely unobstructed view of Illuminations, without crowds pressing on our backs, with the heat from the flames warming our faces and the light from the fireworks sparkling our eyes. I got many, many, fabulous photos from the night, which was over all too quickly.

All in all, I had a very good time, mainly from meeting everyone in our group. The food, I felt, was a bit on the dry side, although it is a buffet and subject to a bit more exposure than plated dinners. I wish that they had signage so that I could see what they were offering. Some of the more foreign (to me) foods, I could not see my family eating. It’s not ‘Fear Factor Fodder,’ but I was uncomfortable asking about it, and had to keep asking my friend what I’d chosen. Goofy and Minnie did not ‘mingle’ with us as long as the characters at the other events. I’m not sure if that was because we were a party of mostly adults, or if it is due to the pacing of this event.

I would not go to this again for the dinner, but I would go again in a heartbeat for the dessert party afterwards. It was a magnificent location, and the intimacy of eating chocolate under the stars with friends is truly wonderful. And the view of Illuminations – priceless."

I may bring a friend to Earl's who is an Adventurers Club virgin.

My own opinion which means it's worth 2 cents. :)

By asking even more people it will get out of hand and too crowded.
Earl's will have other custumers. I don't think the store would like
it if we took over the place.

We'll be there for 6 days that anyone can meet up with other disers.

Also, if we do tell others they might expect we are in charge and may want us do other planing for them.

It looks like we are sponsoring the event by broadcasting it.

There are many other meets going on this year in which they are keeping
among each other.

I don't see why we have to invite everyone :confused3

No I dont eat seafood and I hear the menu is pretty limited if you dont eat that. Plus I have not really heard many good reviews. Now if they had food I liked I would give it a try anyway but since its seafood I will just take a pass.

I think you're right Catherine, and it was an ok spot when we went, I can't remember now exactly where it was it has been years ago, when they had the Silver plan.

My friend went to a dessert buffet years ago. They usually have it on one of the plazas around France and England. From the Odyssey they'd walk you around the front of World Showcase Plaza to get there. There was a table with the desserts and drinks but it was eat and stand, no chairs provided. That doesn't mean there weren't planters or benches or anything to sit on but there may not be enough of those for everybody.

Okay, that's fine. I was just throwing it out there. :) I don't mind keeping it just us. Actually I prefer it but I thought I'd mention it to see what others thought.

I don't eat seafood either. At all. They have some chicken that I will most likely order.
Grilled Chicken Breast - with roasted Yukon potatoes, caramelized leeks, and pancetta vinaigrette

I have heard mixed reviews as well, some love it, some hate it. I just want to say I've tried it.

Hi Beth,
Please count me in for your ADR's for Coral Reef, Boma, and the International Dinner (if you have to prepay for this one, I'll make the ADR myself.) That is - if you are up to dining with a "stranger".

Any way I convince you to going to Prime Time instead of Sci-Fi? I don't think Sci-Fi is worth a TS credit and I LOVE Prime Time!

I've done Sci Fi on my last two trips and enjoyed it well enough but I think next time I will do Prime Time on my MGM day because I really enjoyed that one too when I went 2 years ago. And I don't mind dining with strangers - they won't be strangers for long :)
