Is there any benefit to choosing an early UY when purchasing BLT? I really want a December UY (best suits future DVC plans) so if I buy this December I will have to wait until December 2009 to get my points, correct? Of course, I know I can book before December 1, and I can even travel before then if I borrow my points, but I want to make sure I am not missing anything.

This seems unlikely, but if I bought this December, would I receive 2008/2009 points too?

Good thinking (that is what I wanted to do, too :) )--but, FEB 2009 is the first UY for which they are selling points.

Since they don't open BLT until September there is no real benefit of having an earlier UY in the end we all get the same amount of points.

So, if someone buys now and gets a feb UY for BLT; according to the rule of 4 when is the last month they can use the points before they expire? This is a bit confussing to me.

FEB 2009 Use Year is Feb 1 2009 - Jan 31 2010

however if BLT is Home Resort these points aren't available for stays before BLT opens (expected opening Sept 2009)

Banking is allowed up to end of 8th month of Use Year, so for a February Use Year banking deadline would be September 30 ( September 30 2009 for the February 2009 Use Year )

Excellent Understanding Use Year thread that is well worth reading :thumbsup2

The rule of 4 only applies to booking at the non DVC resorts. It means that you must have made your reservation prior to the last four months of your UY. The actual stay can be during those last four months. The Disneyland hotels are currently exempt from this rule.

You could book at a DVC resort up until the last day of your UY.

Okay, I understand a bit more now. So does this mean I can book on the last day of my UY and stay during my next year then? As long as it is booked during the UY?

No, your points will expire at the end of the UY unless you have banked them. If you had points that were about to expire and booked on the last day the stay could only be for that last day of your UY and anything you didn't use would expire.

I think that there may be some option to bank into II for later use but someone else would have to provide more info about if that could be done.

One thing that can be done is to bank your points before the banking deadline and if you did decide to take a vacation and were able to book something in the last four months of the current UY you could borrow from your next UY. Then for any stays in your next UY you would want to be certain to use the banked points first as they cannot be banked again. It's a way to lessen your chance of losing points but to still be able to take a last minute vacation should you choose to.
