BLT Price Increase?

I just called my guide to ask a question, and her voicemail said she's been extremely busy due to the upcoming BLT price increase that is "the largest increase ever." Has anyone heard about this?

Have you talked to her since the increase to $120? Maybe it's an old message? Or at least we can hope. More than $120 is scarey.

I'm extremely skeptical that Disney is experiencing a huge increase in demand right now that would normally result in increased pricing. Whatever price increases that have recently occurred or will occur, I can only assume they are part of some longer term brand value protection strategy. No way they have more buyers this year than say, three years ago. Just my guess.

It's a pricing game. They raise the price to make you upset because you didn't buy earlier, then they offer a limited time discount to real you in.

What's sad is that I'm sure that another price increase isn't really going to affect BLT sales at all. I thought that when BLT was raised to $120/point that *that* would be the point where we started to see sales decrease, but I think people are still buying in as much as ever. If I were DVC, I'd capitalize on BLT's momentum right now too and raise prices.

I can't wait for someone to post the details.

If there is anything that Disney still does very well is sell DVC contracts.

Just think about how many people every day walk up to a kiosk and end up buying based on the presentation. They are chauffeur driven to the beautiful Presentation Center, made to feel special and introduced to their new best friend, a DVC Guide. The video is beautiful and the sales presentation well rehearsed.

If Disney would only continue the experience after you buy.

We are looking at doing a BLT add on but since we have an April UY, we figured we'd wait a few more weeks to see if any new incentives came up before sending the $$$$ in.

If there is a BLT price increase I think we'll buy a different resort Can't imagine paying >$120... unless of course they offer a higher $ off so the net price ends up essentially the same.

I agree with the other posters. I think right now BLT is "liked" way more than SSR and AK. (And sold our resorts too.) I think they can price it this way. If someone doesn't want to spend 120-130- or even 150 a point, they can buy any # of other resorts, and they can make BLT the "high end" pricing. .. until the day Poly or GF open.

I do not think they will lose 1 over all sale with even a 30$- 50$ price increase on just BLT. The over all lack of resale and the resale price difference. It has a higher demand. Maybe this will end in 6 months, when the new-ness wears off.. maybe it is perm. Either way, they are a business and .. they can make more $$ right now per point. If you don't like the BLT pricing.. you can buy SSR, or AK, or any sold out resort for that matter.
I am not saying they should take adv of the demand.. just that it is a business and they will price according to this. Even with higher points per room, it has more interest. (right now.)

Yup - I agree with you, especially because a $30/point increase is "only" $4,800 when you buy 160 points. I'm not saying that amount of money is not substantial, but with Disney's easy financing, the Guides can spin it that way. Also, the fact that, if DVC did raise BLT to $150/point, they could then easily push SSR or AKV as being the much cheaper options, and if people are *still* willing to pay that much extra for BLT, DVC still wins. I'm so thankful that I got in when BLT was "only" $96/point (although I guess my plan of adding on in the next couple years is now a pipedream - LOL).

We have been looking at doing an add on, but so far the incentives have not been inticing enough for us. With the price as high as it is, you really would have to do something AMAZING to get us to add on right now.
Seems funny to me how the economy didnt stop them from raising prices. I thought at some point they would do something great.....we will see.

The raise to $120 did affect the sales. Before the raise 60% of all sales were BLT points. After the increase and when the discounts for AKV kicked in the sales for AKV were slightly higher than BLT's. I got this information from wdrl. He has posts that show BLT and AKV's sales/points.

Although I won't discount the affect that "Guide Spin" may have on closing a sale, I believe that a rational, informed buyer can justify buying BLT at $120 a point. We are staying in an MK view studio at BLT next week for 183 points, and the rack rate according to the Disney website is $4,646.00 for that 7-night stay. At $120/point, 183 points would cost $21,960, plus $691.74 a year in MF. With a rack rate of $4,646, a buyer could recoup their DVC purchase in 6 or 7 trips. $120 a points sounds high, especially when you read about DVC veterans who bought OKW or HHI for less than $55/point. But I wonder if even those early DVC buyers still had to take 6 or 7 trips to recoup their costs?

Yeah, that's no joke. For our 14 night stay (296 points, if I recall correctly...) in a standard view studio the cost is $550 per NIGHT (or $7,700) *plus* tax. Even if the cost were $130/point, that still means that a 300 point buy-in ($39,000) would make you break even in about 5 stays. While I can't imagine anyone paying over $8,000 per vacation for a studio, I can still see the spin that a Guide could put on the situation to sell BLT.

I am watching the resale market for BLT waiting for the perfect small contract and want to buy before another price increase. I too would be surprised if they raise prices again at BLT.

Maybe it is info about the DVC in Hawaii?

I wouldn't be surprised if they raised prices at BLT, it will push the other resort sales and help maintain inventory. Right now there are no other DVC's on site that are being constructed, I do not think they ever want to get to a point that there are no on site locations to purchase, so price BLT really high, sell AKV and any remaining SSR's.....excerecise more ROFR's and sell those....keeping BLT for those that want to pony up for it and to bridge a gap for another resort.
