I was able to get a BLT 1 bedroom lakeview during magic season for $2500 directly from disney. This includes daily housekeeping.

It costs 297 points for this unit and most rentals are going for $10 a pt. Thats $2970 (without housekeeping) vs $2500 (with housekeeping).

Is this becuase, 1) they have not sold out yet and have alot of available units, 2) the recession, or 3) the opening of harry potter world is stealing alot of customers for this summer?

What do you think, I feel like I got a great deal.

I'd say #1 and #2 combined. I don't think Universal has anything to do with it at all.

And it does sound like you got a great deal by what you posted.

I agree, unsold inventory that DVC wants to get some cash on.

I am sitting in a 1BR at BLT right now. We were supposed to check out on Friday but since we are driving we had kicked around the idea of staying through Saturday. I have an AP and was shocked to find a rate of $343 for a 1BR LV on Friday during Premier season. It would have cost me 66 points for that room. I booked it and was very happy with the rate but I admit it had me scratching my head and wondering why they are offering so cheap. The following is a cut and paste from my confirmation and does not include tax which I believe was $387 total.

Bay Lake Tower at Disney's Contemporary Resort

BTW - OP -Love BLT. Awesome place! You will love it and you got a great deal!

It appears that booking for the summer months is down right now and they have been running some great discounts on the villas (up to 45% off rack rate).

This has brought the price down considerably and therefore, is not necessarily going to make a DVC rental cheaper than a cash reservation through DRC.

Congratulations on getting such a great rate! We will be there in early August in a 1 bedroom LV and can't wait. We stayed in a studio last summer and I loved the resort and can not wait to go back!!!

Less than 4 months to go!!!
