So this is random and maybe someone has said it before, but I was putting together my pp for my U.S. History students on Watergate and I noticed just how much the Contemporary looks like the Watergate complex. And how the BLT portion looks like the Watergate South and Retail section on the far right of the picture, what do you think?

LOL, I thought that when we first saw the plans for it! Here I thought I was the only one who thought that!

To add to your theory, Nixon was at the Contemporary when he stated "I am not a crook".

I think it's a conspiracy.

I flew by the Watergate complex last week and I had the passing thought that the buildings were similar. Sort of funny when you throw in Nixon's history at the CR...

I don't know, but the black area between the two buildings does look a little like a hidden Mickey.

But the contemporary gets used alot more than the Watergate! Its all shuttered up right now waiting for a new developer.

I think Nixon being at The Contemporary for "I'm not a Crook" is a urban legend.

I tried to find some definitive source before making my post above, but was unsuccessful - although there are a lot of references to it (but none, on a quick glance, from a major US news source). And since I was 1 when it happened, my memory of the event is sketchy. :confused3

Apparently it is discussed in Charlie Ridgeway's book, but I didn't read it.

From This Day in Disney History: "In an hour-long televised question-and-answer session held at Disney World's Contemporary Resort, U.S. President Richard Nixon declares "I am not a crook." In front of 400 Associated Press managing editors, Nixon defends his record in the Watergate scandal. He has flown to Orlando this evening from his Key Biscayne, Florida home for this much-heralded event."

From Wiki

"Allegations of wrongdoing prompted Nixon to famously state "I'm not a crook" in front of 400 startled Associated Press managing editors on the grounds of Disney's Contemporary Resort at Walt Disney World Resort in Florida on November 17, 1973.[17][18]"

The entry cites a Washington Post article from 1973.
