Dh has started making protein smoothies in the morning and killed my blender! Any blenders that don't mind chopping ice?

Thanks!

My friends who make smoothies everyday either have a Vitamix or a Blendtec. Both of these are expensive but will last a lot longer than buying your cheaper blenders.

I would suggest a Blendtec. My wife makes a smoothie everyday and it really holds up. It is expensive, but you wont need to replace it. We both love it- and thats hard to say about a blender :). If you have a Costco membership, they often have good deals on them.

Get this one: http://www.walmart.com/ip/Hamilton-Beach-WaveStation-4-Speed-Blender-Black/19699947

I kid you not it works great! About 7 years ago we bought an older model of this and it was amazing...eventually the pitcher cracked, so we bought this one which is a newer version of the same one. It works just as well.

I really want a Vitamix or Blendtec but those are hundreds of dollars...and for $20 this can make a perfect smoothie! I make fruit & yogurt smoothies almost every day and my husband makes whey protein smoothies almost daily (yuck). I like mine icy and this blends ice like a dream...no huge chunks in it or anything...just the yummy smooth ice crystals, like a frappuccino! I have not tried the spout dispenser before...I prefer to just pour it.

My perfect smoothie ratio is: 1/2 cup yogurt, 1/2 cup milk, 1 cup fruit (fresh), 15 ice cubes. This makes about a 16-20oz serving. If I use frozen fruit, I have to cut the ice way down. Frozen fruit doesn't taste as good so I usually use fresh strawberries & bananas.

I second the Ninja, we've made at least 3 different kinds of smoothies a day for the past year.. It's hasn't failed us yet.

I recommended a really inexpensive blender earlier, but I wanted to give you the info from Consumer Reports on the Ninja.

The model they recommend is the Ninja Master Prep Professional QB1004. It got really great ratings, just below that of the Vitamix. It is listed as being $60.

There is another Ninja that is listed but it got a much lower score: Ninja Professional NJ600. It is listed at $100 so I would opt for the QB1004 if you get a Ninja.

I thought the Ninja 1100 looked really nice, comparable to a Vitamix but I haven't tried any of the Ninjas.

The Ninjas only get about 3-4 stars on Amazon for different models so I don't know what to think.

Here's another recommendation for the Ninja. We use it a lot in the summer to crush ice for shaved ice and it works great. It's a bit loud but it definitely does what it's suppose to do.

My Cuisinart blender does a great job on ice. Inexpensive blenders do not have the power to crush ice. You will burn out the motor very quickly.

Another Ninja lover here! I was so tired of my other blenders not doing a good job but I wasn't about to buy a Vitamix so I biught the Ninja to try. Honestly I wasn't expecting great results, but I got them. I'm sure a Vitamix would be better, but not $100s of dollars worth of better. I got my Ninja at Big Lots for $60.

I was looking to get something better for my husband for Christmas as he makes a lot of smoothies as well. When I saw you recommend this one I looked around and it is on sale for $39 at the hardware store around the corner. I'll be picking one up tomorrow.:thumbsup2
I noticed it comes with a one year replacement warranty as well which is nice. Thanks!

A coworker had some problems with her ninja at around the 10 month mark - a rubber bit on the container was gone - they sent her a new container and blades for the container and were happy to do it, so they do really stand behind what they sell.
