Black Friday - Who Doesn't Care?

I don't care, there really isn't anything I want that bad. I went one year and ended up buying stuff for myself My family prefers cash/gift cards and I do online shopping alot anyway.

I don't do Black Friday. I don't think it's necessary. If you are a smart shopper the rest of the year, you shouldn't need to. I also don't relish the thought of being trampled over a toy or electronics.

Some people look at shopping as a hobby and they enjoy all of this. They do it more for fun than anything and I see nothing wrong with that. I've never seen the vicious crowds though. We seem to be a rather sedate bunch here.

I have never been to a Black Friday yet. I was tempeted to go to Walmart for the XBox special with Kinnect but alas my DH has to work and we only have one car. I absolutely hate shopping anyway

I detest BF shopping and refuse to get involved in the hype. I'd rather pay a bit more for something than to get up and wait...and wait...in a long line. Yuck.---Kathy

**Good grief - as I was putting away the Black Friday ads, I noticed that Meijers is having a big sale TODAY (Thanksgiving) from 6 a.m. until midnight! I feel sorry for their employees!

Meijers is a grocery store, though... They've always been open on holidays for those last-minute things that run out/break down/got forgotten so this isn't anything new for their employees. And I can understand why a place that deals in things that are needed or run out without regard to the calendar like grocery and drug stores would be open. The ones I feel for are the folks who work at Toys R Us, Old Navy, Bass Pro Shop, and the other specialty retailers that have started to run Thanksgiving Day sales. I mean, really... is the need to buy a fishing pole, hoodie, or Lego set worth making people give up their holiday?

We just got home from the movies and on the way home we drove around to look at all the people freezing in LONG lines at Target, Best Buy, etc. I value my sleep too much to fight for stuff I don't need. Although, I wouldn't mind getting one of the Disney snowglobes from JC Penney. What to do, what to do?

I totally understand the thrill of it, and that it's fun for many - it's just not for me. We do most of our shopping online. After looking at all the ads, and seeing the few things we wanted, we were able to find them all online for the same price or cheaper. I just don't think the prices justify what I'd have to do to get them.

No, I never have and never will care to partake in BF shopping. It's funny, we were just in France on vacation last month and were asked by a French guide about "the black friday shopping". As we described this American phenomenon, she looked at us like we were from another planet.

I read about some people who were in line six days ago....SIX DAYS....in order to have a shot at buying a 42 inch Sharp TV for $200. Really?

I think it's one thing to have the stores open at say, 6 or 7 am on Friday so excited shoppers can get some deals. I get that some folks enjoy the outing...make a tradition of it. But not it's gotten so totally out of control....to the point of having some of these stores open on Thanksgiving day, or at midnight on Friday. There are people who are missing out on spending time with family on Thanksgiving day just so they can get to bed to get up for Black Friday. And that's not even mentioning that a few people have died the past few yeas. It's just completely crazy.

Like every other year, I'll do the majority of my shopping on-line. I've already purchased two iPod touches and a Ninetendo 3Ds on-line for my niece and nephews. I'll order AMEX gift cards online for older cousins. Adults get GCs to local restaurants. Friends and acquaintances get Lenox ornaments....also ordered on-line. Any small items I may need I'll buy from local merchants. Any small amount of money I may have saved by being stampeded by crowds just isn't worth it.

The only event we take part in on "Black Friday" is to go to our town Christmas Tree lighting and concert. The fire department serves hot chocolate. Santa and Mrs Clause show up for the kids and they even have a snow machine to add to the atmosphere. That's my idea of "Black Friday".

I know some kids that are first in line at our Target. They have been there since midnight last night.

My daughter, her friend and I went out last year about 6:00 am. I went to Target first and the lines to check out were so long, I just put the couple of things I wanted back down and left the building. Wasn't worth saving a couple of bucks to stand in line. We went out to breakfast instead. Then I took them home and went back out a couple of hours later. The crowds were much better and I still found what I wanted. I did a lot of online shopping last year.

I might go out tomorrow morning say 9/10 o'clock. I want to buy my daughter a set of luggage. There's some pretty good deals advertised but I want to look the luggage over before buying it. I might do some online shopping tomorrow also.

The older I get, the less I enjoy shopping of any kind, so BF is definitely on my ignore list. If there was anything I really wanted, I'd find a way to get it online.

I used to work black friday and would request early morning shift to get out and go home. I think the deals are cool and its not that I think I would have to fight people in the store but have no desire to wait in line for 1 hour + or fight the traffic on the road.
My sister and her husband make a date of it, so this year I am watching her two girls while they go... I enjoy it much much more than going. :0)
Plus, if there is something I really really want she would pick it up for me.

I've passed the torch to DS who is 17. He and his friends go and I shop from my computer at home. They think it's a giant party and it gets him out of the house which allows me to order what I need. It's a win-win! He is going to be a bit tired at work this weekend, however

I saw lots of teens shopping and they seemed to be having a nice time. We have a curfew here but it looked like the police were letting it slide tonight.

I'm CONVINCED you can get the same or better deals either online or in stores closer to Christmas.

NO WAY I'd get up early to stand in line to save $10 on a toaster.

Unless I was saving HUNDREDS of dollars on something that I actually needed, I would not waste a minute of my time on Black Friday.

I honestly tried...once. When we got there and I had to loop the parking lot twice, I just left and went home and shopped online, and have done so from that point on.

We were discussing this last night while recooperating from our turkey comas, and SIL said, "They have to be handing out $1,000 bills for me to fight those crowds." Amen.

Did you hear about the woman who peppersprayed people in LA while in line for an Xbox? Honestly? Fourteen year old DS said, "Ok, so let me get this straight...She waited in line for two hours for an Xbox, ended up spraying people with pepperspray when the store got crowded, and so she had to run out of the store to get away from the police...without ever getting the Xbox? Duh. What's the point?"
